Remember Body shop ice blue shampoo and animal soaps, body and face place pineapple lip balm. Explanation perfume, Charlie red, youth dew?? What are your fave beauty products from days of old?

Eau givree - gosh I loved that - in a silver and white spray with a bit if green and/or maybe black? Think I may have had version in a bottle too! Probably around 1986 /87 .

This is an old school product, but probably not what OP had in mind, but my first sanitary product, was Dr Whites towels which had loops and you had a belt to go with it. Remember being horrified having to use them, as my friends had the new fangled sticky pads, and shock horror were allowed tampons. DM must have thought the thing about no longer being a virgin if you used those was true Hmm

MissBattleaxe · 19/01/2016 23:21

Panache and Arpege are still great. Good taste sarah!

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 20/01/2016 06:29

OP- I frequented Lewis's in Liverpool (and GHL but the assistants there were scarier)

I think we all wore paler foundations than our faces because "matte" was very in. (a lot frickin better than the perma orange lines of later years looking back...)

I had an Almay foundation called Rachel which was bloody brilliant- total cover (doublewear eat your heart out) and then moved on to Lancome Maquimat. (but the Almay was better)

I remember a Miners advert from when I was just starting to get into make up...a frizzy haired woman going on about how her husband was taking a new woman out to dinner (her) as she flashed her powder blue eyeshadow at the camera. Then she commented on how cheap it was, and said "tomorrow he's taking another new woman out" and flashed a different coloured eyeshadow.

I had an Evette (woolies) powder blue one, and a Charlie (they did a bit of makeup briefly) gold one.

Cheekychops shimmer stick
Aqua Manda perfume
Kikuyu perfume by Faberge, I think.
Max Factor's Pan Stik

YY to shiny conker.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 20/01/2016 08:33

Aqua Manda is making a massive comeback apparently.

My finger hovered the one-click on Amazon yesterday.....and for Eau Jeune, L'Aimant and various other 70s and 80s potions.

MissBattleaxe · 20/01/2016 10:51

Yes Aqua Manda is back and very good, as is Tribe, Babe and they're working on Geminesse and Lutece.

L'Aimant is still available and an excellent bargain. It smells similar to Chanel No 5. The two were launched a few years apart in the 1920s.

KitKatCustard · 20/01/2016 11:01

zazathacat YES that's it! I was trying to think of what that stuff was. Brilliant! (thank you)

KitKatCustard · 20/01/2016 11:05

Well bugger me, you can still get it!

Loads of body shop stuff - dewberry, white musk (still love the smell!), henna, pink grapefruit face wash (or was it shower gel), papier-poudre sheets to blot the grease(!),
Fake tan which was soooo orange!!

MamaLazarou · 20/01/2016 11:59

PenguindreamsofDraco · 20/01/2016 11:59

Haven't RTFT but has anyone else mentioned a beer shampoo? Google tells me it was called Linco Beer. I have no idea why, maybe 14 yo me thought it was a bit edgey.

I used to paint vertical stripes of alternating pink and pale blue eyeshadow from the lid up to the brow. Oh yes.

And the quiff held by a hair slide, and occasionally I would tie a scarf into the slide so it looked like a large mutant butterfly had landed.

And of course Heather Shimmer lipstick.

MamaLazarou · 20/01/2016 12:00

Does anyone remember the Body Shop bath oil - you used to be able to choose a perfume oil to go in it.

Their Orange Cream bath oil was gorgeous.

I miss the old Body Shop.

ICanSeeForMiles · 20/01/2016 12:02

I adored Fuzzy Peach perfume, people used to stop me in shops and ask what fragrance I had on ...I would buy it now if I could Grin

Janeymoo50 · 20/01/2016 12:08

Linco beer shampoo.

heavens2betsy · 20/01/2016 12:11

M&S Forest Fern bubble bath and talc (does anyone use talc anymore?)
Amarige, Loulou, Anais Anais and Poison were my favourite perfumes
The body shop bought Dewberry and White musk back a few years ago.
Does anyone remember Woodleigh Green Apple Shampoo - it smelt divine as did the Boots hairgel, it was green in a tub.

JustDanceAddict · 20/01/2016 12:12

I do remember Linco Beer! I spent hours in our local chemist - they sold all sorts of this crap!!!

kelper · 20/01/2016 12:15

God this thread is taking me back!!
I loved Tribe perfume, it was a special birthday treat to get some!
And that salon selective shampoo, smelled awesome in the bottle but the smell never transferred to my hair much :-/
I loved white musk but hated dewberry and ananya, and i remember my Aunt buying me blue mascara and eyeshadow and my mum confiscating it!
And oh yes, the good old Heather Shimmer!

niminypiminy · 20/01/2016 12:18

I used to love Body Shop bath oil with perfume oil in - I used to have vanilla.

Further back (much, much further) I remember Boots 17 used to do little pots of solid perfume. I had Juniper which I adored. I also had a bottle of Tramp and thought it was so sophisticated - at 15. My mother had Aqua Manda which was lovely. Must get some of the relaunched version.

Miners chalk sticks - eye crayons. And little tubes of shiny eye shadow - it went on as a liquid and then dried really shiny. Think it was Rimmel. And Rimmel water-colour eye shadow which you mixed with water to make the colour more intense.

Clairol Glints, also Toners and Shaders.

plumstone · 20/01/2016 12:24

Ooh I love a bit of nostalgia,

Exclamation - Make a statement without saying a world!!! Cannot believe I actually remember that. Never wore it just loved the advert, wore Colors by Benetton for years and then Anais Anais, My mum wore Youth Dew when she died I kept her last bottle - still have it, when I smell it, it is always a women of a certain age and I always turn round to check its not her!!!

Loved a bit of BS - kiwi lip balm - the current lip butters are not the same league at all

Whoever mentioned Joop for men - I can smell that at 100 paces and can come over all peculiar in a good way, when I smell it Grin

Also I had the straighteners pictured above, totally crap on my hair, but after the Shaders and toners, pink bendy rollers, crispy gel and obscene amounts of hairspray not much was going to improve how I looked!!!

FireCrotch · 20/01/2016 12:28

Monsoon fragrance. It came in a round blue/green bottle and reminded me of that smell you get from the sea or ocean. I adored it and got my friends into it. I was devastated when Coty discontinued it.

afghanda · 20/01/2016 12:32

Nothing has ever made my skin look as good as that 10-0-6 stuff. I used it for years and my skin was flawless. It was probably pure acid.

freddiemed · 20/01/2016 12:37

Body Shop Apricot Lip Balm in a little pot
Sensiq eye shadows and foundations. used to love those!
Clairol Glints semi-permanent hair dyes - Conker and Blueberry were particular faves...
body shop white musk and dewberry everything
passion fruit cleanser
Miss Selfridge Doris Karloff lippie (bright red)
Twilight Teaser and Sweet Sizzle No 17 Lippies
Eden perfume
Fashion Floor and What Everyone Wants cheapo shops a la primark
poly papilloten (??) pink bendy hair rollers.
ahhhh the late 80s/early 90s!!!

Fizrim · 20/01/2016 12:43

I remember so many of these (and the Glemby salon in Lewis's too!)

Heather Shimmer - I think I was wearing this at my engagement party!
The perfumes - I loved Charlie (not sure which one of the current range is the original), Rive Gauche, Chanel No 19, Cachet and I had forgotten about Geminesse until someone mentioned it on here! Also some Avon ones - Eau Givree, honeysuckle, Sweet Honesty, Sunny Skies ...

Body Shop - yy to the Japanese Washing Grains, Orchid Oil Cleansing Milk, peppermint foot lotion.

Miners in the blue pots (and the Evette stuff), the Rimmel stuff in the photo, Outdoor Girl (I remember my first cleanser and toner being OG).

Happy days!

PurpleHairAndPearls · 20/01/2016 12:49

Heavenstobetsy I remember the M and S Forest Fern, I loved it. I also remember (must have been the mid 80s) they did two body sprays in a set, one for day and one for night. I thought this was the height of sophistication!
