Hoping link to previous thread works!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2320549-Ashamed-of-my-beauty-product-hoard?pg=1

Continuation of the thread where I realised I was not alone in my hoarding of all things make-up/beauty/skincare/toiletries.

Lots of lovely mumsnetters who encourage each other to use and enjoy all those lovely products, and at the same time try to reduce our spending on unnecessaries!

Poke, Marian Keyes has written a fabulous article in her collection of Chanel nail varnishes that she never uses, only lovingly looks at from time to time Smile

Woodhill · 12/05/2016 12:44

And you only tend to wear some of the colours in palettes.

The free gift thing encourages me to buy things I don't need to get the gift, clever marketing.

BubsAndMoo · 12/05/2016 13:37

raises hand gingerly

I may have bought that palette and two of the lipsticks as well

It is luffly. Limited edition UD palettes are my weakness. I do play with them though.

I need to join this thread..... I have been lurking and concentrating on starting to use up some stuff. I'm just not sure I'm ashamed of my hoard- more slightly embarrassed but secretly proud!

Ememem84 · 12/05/2016 17:37

I am eyeing up Chanel rouge noir nail polish. Want want want.

But. I'd never use it as I get gels on my fingers and have just had a gel pedicure. No need for lovely proper polishes.

I'm close to finishing a soltan fake tan. It's great. Not orange. Doesn't stain my bedding st moritz I'm looking at you only issue is that I can't see where it's gone on well enough. So did end up a bit patchy on Tuesday (wore trousers to work that day) and had to top up on Tuesday night. Confused

WellTidy · 12/05/2016 22:09

My halo is bloody radiant this week! I've also resisted boots GWP on buying two Estée Lauder products!

Estée Lauder is my weakness as I've used masses of their products as staples for 20+ years, and have stockpiled loads of different ones in that time. There is nothing that I need despite knowing that a 7ml advanced night repair and 15 ml day wear moisturiser and a mini mascara would be well worth having! And i have about £60 in advantage card points to spend, so I wouldn't be spending real money.

But I've resisted.

I am having a real pull towards those bare minerals eyeshadow quads now though. They were all beautiful, but knew in particular had lovely shades of very wearable greens which are my everyday colours. Some would get loads of use out of them and I would reeeeeealllllly value them. You lot are bad for me! You're supposed to be giving me strength!!

WellTidy · 12/05/2016 22:13

Does anyone else have a weakness for a set, or a whole range of matching products?

I've just realised that this is another weakness of mine. I can't just buy a body wash, it seems. I need to buy the entire range on offer. My stash shows that I have a same scent Rituals sugar body scrub, foaming body wash and body cream. and a Ahava foot cream, hand cream and body cream. And countless Molton brown shower gel and body moisturiser matching sets.

Where has this need to buy matchy matchy come from I wonder?

BubsAndMoo · 13/05/2016 06:23

Not whole ranges of scents etc - kind of the opposite as I almost pride myself on being able to put together different products to devise my own perfect individual 'regime' as it were.
But when it comes to some things I love having a line of things in a row looking neat and the same. Lipsticks from the same brand for example. At the moment I'm really hankering after more Nars lipsticks, because they are a gorgeous formulation, but also because the packaging has N A R S on each side, so I need 4 lipsticks in a row in the drawer so they spell out Nars. I love my little row of Lush Gorilla scents in the same size bottles, so if I want a new fragrance I look at those first it will fit in on my dressing table.

I have been keeping note of empties- it's been surprising how many things were nearly used up now I've started concentrating on getting through them. Not so much on the makeup front but shower and hair stuff definitely!

IPokeBadgers · 13/05/2016 09:18

WellTidy - i think Marian Keyes is brill, and she definitely understands the important things in life! Grin

Almost finished a tube of Korres fig body butter. Love the scent of this and will repurchase but not for a while as it is quite thick and a bit heavy for use all over my body when the weather is hot.

I have also realised that I really like trying new things so it is not a good idea for me to buy massive sizes or multiples. Much better to buy a small bottle of something so I use it up relatively soon and can try something else.

WellTidy I too love matchy match. I have just bought a Body Shop pink grapefruit shower gel and body lotion for the hot weather and I had to restrain myself from buying the whole lot of scrub body spray eau de toilette..... I would have been looking like a grapefruit!

KittyKrap · 13/05/2016 09:28

Me me!
raises hand
I have some lavverly Gucci makeup products that I could only find in Geneva. I sigh and open them and put them back in my collection.

And the Chanel Rouge Noir. I caved in and it's shit compared to gels.

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret · 13/05/2016 12:22

May I join? I suspect I may have one of the worst hoards out there - stuff dating back to the 90s Blush that I cannot bring myself to chuck, because I will use it "some day." GWPs are my absolute downfall.

I, however, made a massive breakthrough this week by resisting the current gwp at Space NK. Stuck items randomly in my basket to total £150 to obtain this gift but then ... refused to check out because I don't need another miniature Malin&Goetz facewash etc. So feeling very, very proud of self.

dogdaydisaster · 13/05/2016 16:14

I finished a cleanser/exfoliator today. It was the black tube of glamglow cleanser, but it also had grainy bits in so was never quite sure what it was Grin. I am now out of clay cleanser -any recommendations. I really liked a free sample of ceramic slip by Sunday Riley but there's got to be something cheaper out there for my clogged pores?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/05/2016 16:28

dog I bought the Indeed Labs powder exfoliant ( recommended on S&B ) it was £12 instead of £18 in Boots.
Rice grains and foamy feel, love it.

Finished a showergel and starting on some soaps that were hiding in my underwear drawer.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/05/2016 16:32

Oooh , BodyShop will send me Special Offers because they always do it's my Birthday soon.
I want the Pink Grapefruit too, I bought the scrub, it was lush.
DD convinced me to buy Moringia showergel, the cream smelled nice (but I'm too lazy to use it) so I bought the showergel. It's ok, but a bit flowery.

I want L'Occitane Almond Oil (shower) too.............................................

Well, I will be 50 so that's reason enough, Yes?

FrustratedFrugal · 13/05/2016 18:04

I'm really tempted by some stuff on iHerb. They are so cheap and cheerful

Welcome areyouthere - I've also found some Revlon lipsticks from 1999. The preservatives must be serious stuff - they still look and feel as they used to.

But I've found a few, ahem, fresher lipsticks that could be used up this summer.

BubsAndMoo · 13/05/2016 19:05

I am really enjoying a Rosette sea clay cleansing paste, it's Japanese zand I got it on a trip but I'm sure it'll be available online somewhere now everyone loves Asian skincare.

dogdaydisaster · 13/05/2016 19:22

Thanks for the suggestions 70 and bubs I'll look at those. Has anyone tried the ren one?

Ememem84 · 13/05/2016 21:29

Oh jeez. I smelled a new perfume today. Jo Malone sea salt and something. It's lush. Proper fresh smelling. Coastal. I love it. Not sure I could pull it off. But love love love. Maybe for a room spray. But at about a million pounds for 100ml is totally not worth it.

Ememem84 · 14/05/2016 09:40

This week I am going to finish:

A tresseme shampoo and conditioner.
A clarins shower gel/bath foam (blue one doesn't smell great too herby for my liking but it was free)
A moisturiser.
And maybe a lip balm.

I am going to make a serious dent in my naked 2 pallet. I've been working on this for at least 6 months and haven't hit the on yet on any of them. Must use more.

Paperblank · 14/05/2016 09:50

I am determined to finish my Elemis cleanser this week. I will finish it if I have to cleanse my entire body with it!

Am working my way through my perfume stash ATM. I have two Avon ones which I have repurchased time and time again, both of which smell divine and I would say have a real high end fragrance. One is sadly about to run out and it has been discontinued - goodbye old friend Sad; the other is still available. Worryingly I appear to have misplaced a rather large bottle of Chanel Allure which I bought for my wedding. I'm annoyed Angry

BubsAndMoo · 14/05/2016 14:08

In the last week I have finished up:

OGX Coconut Milk conditioner - this is YUMMY. Smells divine and a fairly heavy conditioner which suits my thick wavy hair. The shape of the bottle is a little annoying for using up the dregs but that's the only negative. I've already got another in the stash ready to go. I think this will be a repeat purchase for a while.

Origins Gloomaway body scrub - grapefruit scented and nicely scrubby. Really like this for an invigorating morning shower. Definitely buy again but need to use up at least one more body scrub first, have 3 others on the go!

Original Source Blue Ginger shower gel Hmm, this was ok. Took a while to use up, there are other shower gels I like better, probably won't buy again. My DP liked it but he can get it himself if he really wants it in the shower.

Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil 01 LOVE this. Bought it about 3 months ago on the back of blogger hype, and have gone through phases of using it constantly and then forgetting about it, it's not the most moisturising lip product I have but it feels lovely, gives a nice gloss with a pared-down makeup look, and just feels very luxurious and pampery to use. I just bought it again in the new shade/flavour 03, it is a treat product rather than an essential but I like it.

John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Agent I love this, for use on my thick wavy hair on day 1 to tame frizzy ends and flyaways. Repeat purchase, already had a new one ready to go, don't want to run out of it.

So not bad on the empties front but not exactly thinning out the stash as I basically want to replace all of them!!!

Woodhill · 14/05/2016 14:15

Finished a klorane conditioner which was ok.

Mint original source shower gel

Mini Clarins cleanser

Another hotel mini body lotion

Kwick709 · 14/05/2016 15:13

paperblank your dedication to the cause is impressive!

A mahoosive welcome to all the newbies!

Thought I would get through loads of stuff on my break but no such luck.

Am still hungering to buy more beauty products....

Kwick709 · 15/05/2016 17:26

If anyone is interested I have a half-full Chanel Perfection Lumiere long-wear flawless fluid makeup in 32 Beige Rose - the colour is just not right... Not sure it ever was! Will chuck unless one of you lovely ladies would like me to send? Just PM me if so.

FreeButtonBee · 15/05/2016 22:28

Hello all. I have been lurking for ages (and even started a similar thread ages ago but it didn't take off like this one so well done!)

I have been plugging away at bits and bobs but time to get serious about the large basket of cosmetics going off in my room. I am not too bad with shampoo/conditioner/shower gel type stuff. A few conditioners to use up and one or two shampoos which are not my favourites but on the whole I have got my favourite go to items in that regard (helped by having the tiniest bathroom ever for 5 people). I did splash out on some aromatherapy associates stuff in the sales (70% off!!) but I am using it up steadily so not too concerned.

Body lotions however. My god. Never ending. So I am taking a leaf out your books and using all the small bottles and samples first to establish the habit and get some quick wins. Doh! What a simple idea! Tonight I finished a deluxe sample of clarins extra firming body lotion which was actually really lovely. I'd defo repurchase. Not too claggy or thick and rubbed in well. Of course I have no need for body lotion for 5000 years 🙄

Also finished a Korean moisturiser beauty of joseon cream which is very nice indeed. Herbal scent. Not too thick, more of a heavy gel and allows me to throw zillions of serums at my skin as well which I like. Have reordered but it'll take a few weeks to arrive to can finish a few other dregs while I wait.

This week I aim to finish:

  • clarins beauty flash balm - does anyone actually still use this!?! Must be at least 5 years old. Have slathered face in it. The smell was always a bit weird and it's quite heavy in comparison to the lovely lightweight serums I am used to. Also pills if used under makeup something shocking. So relegated to bedtime masking only. Another 3 or 4 nights' worth in the tube I reckon
  • Vichy aqualia thermal riche cream. This has a very strong scent which I am not fond off. Also a bit too thick and heavy for me these days. Not bad as a top layer moisturiser but I don't love it. Will not repurchase. I did have some samples of the Vichy idealia serum which is much nicer so I could be tempted by that line of products. Will investigate at the nice pharmacy down the road which hands out samples like sweeties! Free way to get new product fix!
  • Burt's Bee mama bee tummy cream - bought this in last pregnancy and while it doesn't do much for stretch marks (quelle surprise!) it's remarkably amazing on the KP on my upper arms. May repurchase if other lotions don't fix the issue.
  • misc body lotion samples - aveda/malin & goetz/LRP - all small ones for a easy hit.

Must also start using some fake tan. But the smell. I have a nose like a bloodhound. They ALL smell to me. Will have to try putting it on when the kids go to bed and then showering before bed.

Makeup is a bit of a disaster at the moment as I am on mat leave with 3 under 4's so not much time or call for makeup when you are running after two scooters with a bang in a sling!! So will aim to not buy another more and to have a good sort out some time soon. On which note, storage porn people. Show me yours!
