Hoping link to previous thread works!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2320549-Ashamed-of-my-beauty-product-hoard?pg=1

Continuation of the thread where I realised I was not alone in my hoarding of all things make-up/beauty/skincare/toiletries.

Lots of lovely mumsnetters who encourage each other to use and enjoy all those lovely products, and at the same time try to reduce our spending on unnecessaries!

I finished a Lumene Radiant Touch cream cleanser. Did not like it on my face - drying - so used it up as a body wash. I have a couple of other facial cleansers that did not work out to be used up next but my stash is dwindling - yay!

Woodhill · 10/04/2016 11:01

Love this thread. Unfortunately started buying and hoarding again.

FrustratedFrugal · 10/04/2016 12:05

Woodhill you can always take a pause from shopping. My clothing purchases started cropping up last autumn, I am taking a break, great for my finances. I've bought a mascara, two BB cushions (ordered from Korea) and some sunscreen over the past month, meaning that I have everthing I need for summer, and will now start a total shopping ban.

Pumperthepumper · 10/04/2016 16:41

So weird that this thread came up, I had just started clearing out my stash but had to stop to feed DD and am mumsnetting on my phone. Didn't even search for it! Will read the whole thing now.

Woodhill · 10/04/2016 19:19

Absolutely. I do use my stuff but succumbed to Clarins and Clinique free gifts this Spring.

Have used up M&S serum which was excellent.

Kwick709 · 10/04/2016 20:47

Nothing to report on used front, however I would like to ask for recommendations on hoards I am running low on:

  • Lip balm - anyone know of a deeply moisturising one?
  • Hand cream - anyone know of a non-greasy one?
Thanks!
WellTidy · 10/04/2016 20:53

Kwick', My favourite hand cream is Crabtree and Evelyn rose hand cream. And I've tried loads. It is a proper cream, rather than a lotion, and it absorbs easily. Pleasant fragrance, not too strong, and really moisturising. It will be my next buy after I use the others that I have stashed. I also like the rose hand cream with 20% Shea butter from occitane, but it has to be the rose fragrance one, as I find the other Shea butter ones a bit sticky.

Kwick709 · 11/04/2016 06:30

Thanks wellyidy!

Kwick709 · 11/04/2016 06:31

Oops welltidy

crookedhooker · 11/04/2016 07:19

Soap and Glory Night and Flight finished. I will be repurchasing as I loved it but have a Superdrug and a Boots No 7 too finish first. Several shampoos and shower gels also finished last week. I've a habit of using half a bottle of shampoo and moving onto the next one.

FiveShelties · 11/04/2016 20:46

Finished a perfume and absolutely positively no need to buy any more. I can see the tiniest bit of shelf in between all the stash now --- well on one shelf anyway.

LesIncompetents · 12/04/2016 11:26

Hello, please can I join? My name is Les and I am a hoarder of all things perfume. I did have a bit of a clearout before Christmas, sold some and gave some bottles away but still have between 30-40 bottles languishing in my drawers Blush

To be fair, I do love and use the core of my collection, but I have ancillary boxes of half used samples, minis, oils and nearly used bottles which I really need to use or get rid of so I can enjoy my preciooouuuuuses my favourites!

I have a plan to use the oils in the bath- got rid of a little bottle of a dupe of a Guerlain this morning doing this. Current project- use up a bottle of Elizabeth Arden Green Tea body mist by the end of the week. Should be doable as there's only a bit left. Is it cheating to use it as room spray? Grin

FiveShelties · 12/04/2016 14:13

Welcome LesIncompetents and good luck with working through the collection.

I have finished a small shampoo today, the last of the hotel shampoo toiletries I have 'acquired' over the years. Not sure how it happened but I have lots (and lots) of conditioner.

I am still amazed by the amount of stuff I have and that is after not buying anything new for ages.

WellTidy · 12/04/2016 15:27

Les I use up perfume etc as room sprays. The room spray in the loo at the moment is a Champneys lavender pillow mist that I received when I was pregnant from my lovely SIL. I really don't like the smell of lavender, unfortunately, so I never used it. I've used up lots of aftershave that DH is given in exactly the same way. Next to be used as a room spray is ancient estee lauder body power body spray that I've had for maybe ten years, and hasn't gone off so I can't bring myself to chuck it out.

LesIncompetents · 12/04/2016 16:09

WellTidy I am the same, I just can't bring myself to chuck them out. I had a load of near to empty aftershave bottles belonging to DH that I sifted through this morning, managed to bin some and a few have enough left to use as room spray. DH is terrible for buying new stuff when there's enough left in the old thing for a good week or two of use! Unfortunately I also found yet another stash of mini bottles of mine. There have been a few points during the last few years where I've looked at all the bottles and thought 'WTF am I doing?' but the 'no buy' periods never lasted for long!

Woodhill · 12/04/2016 17:06

i'm tidying out cupboards and trying desperately to group things together.

Also got perfumes and old body sprays as freshener.

Kwick709 · 12/04/2016 21:14

Welcome les I will happily take any Stella McCartney "Stella" off your hands if you have any!!!!

welltidy I LOVE lavender... Just saying Wink

Woodhill · 12/04/2016 21:23

Found loads of sachets on clear out let alone small sizes yet my favourite lipstick has disappeared.

Will try to use up sachets first.

Kwick709 · 13/04/2016 07:44

I finished Lee Stafford oily roits, dry ends shampoo and conditioner - I probably will not buy again.

dogdaydisaster · 13/04/2016 10:08

2 empties here. The elemis marine cream, which I have already got a couple of spares of. I use it as my day cream and really like it. Secondly was the Skin luminizer foundation from Max Factor. Quite liked this and it was a good match but have a few in the wings (including a few CC/BB creams bought on holiday in the US) so will not be repurchasing just yet.

applesandpears33 · 13/04/2016 10:37

Two empties - a handcream and a lipstick. It is taking much longer to use things up now that I am onto full size products.

LesIncompetents · 13/04/2016 11:32

Kwick I don't think I've got Stella, if I find any lurking around I will let you know Wink

I actually managed to finish the Green Tea body mist this morning the whole house smells like a spa Grin
I recommend it as a light, summer perfume if you're after something citrussy and refreshing (it's pretty affordable too.)

Next on my hitlist are the ancient dregs of a bottle of Juicy Couture. I'm quite enjoying this!

Bluedolphin1971 · 13/04/2016 14:37

Oh dear, this is definetly me. I am a total make up hoarder. Make up is my thing, I love reading about make up watching you tube videos, you name it if it's about make up then I'm into it.

I am very ashamed about the amount of money I have spent on make up over the years. I'm 45 and if I wore make up every day from now until the end of time, I would still have some left over.

At my last count I had over 250 lipsticks 😱. Don't ask me how many eyeshadows, lipgloss or blushes I have. This year I told myself no more, has it worked.......nope! However I have cut back on what I would normally buy and have told myself I will use up more make up than I buy.

My husband says if it makes me happy then I should just keep doing what I'm doing, I'm not getting into debt for it, no one in the house is missing out on anything because I'm buying it. I work and have my own money, so I should just buy it if it makes me happy.

I know I should give it away, but I just can't bear to part with it, it just makes me so happy (sad I know) lol.

FrustratedFrugal · 13/04/2016 16:18

Bluedolphin you are with fellow hoarders here Wink It will take me at least a decade to use up my eye makeup and lip product stash. Purchasing new stuff used to make me happy, and I do like my collection. But I feel even happier when I finish a product.

I finished two perfume samples today: Diorissimo EDT and slumberhouse Pear + Olive. I have a massive perfume collection but have decided to stop expanding it. I will use up some of it - the ones that I really like.

Kwick709 · 13/04/2016 17:44

Thanks Les Grin
