Anything but the C-word!

We all said soddit to the film, I had a nap and did some singing practice and DP is painting the bathroom. Am going to sound out cleaners on Monday - if anyone local to me has recommendations let me know. We've had variable experiences in the past but at the moment it would just help hugely - DP and I keep the place habitable but would love it to be actually nice.

motherinferior · 20/09/2015 17:18

DP now announces he doesn't like the colour he's sloshing onto our bathroom walls. It is a faaaabulous teal I'd never have persuaded him into. A million times better than the pale blue we had before.Grin

bigTillyMint · 20/09/2015 17:44

MI I have a nice cleaner - I could ask her if she has any spaces and would go out your way?

motherinferior · 20/09/2015 17:50

Please do!!

bigTillyMint · 20/09/2015 18:43

Have sent her ur number so she should be contacting you!

hattymattie · 20/09/2015 19:26

Well crepies - a friend of DD2 went to stay with DD1 to see the Uni this weekend. She told DD1 that DD2 had been occasionally smoking outside the school gates and she was worried about this becoming an addiction.

DD2 says she's tried out cigarettes but doesn't smoke and that friend is some sort of Gone Girl psychopath, who has family problems and wants to consequently wreck DD2's home life. DD2 has looked me in the eye and strenuously denied all (well she would wouldn't she). Not sure what the truth is without actually staking out the school. Certainly she cannot be regularly smoking as she was with us on holiday and has also been home in her room all weekend. DD2 totally calm and unpeturbed - I said I'd prefer her to not have sleepovers for the time being which she accepted.

Any thoughts crepies?

magimedi · 20/09/2015 19:37

Hallo Crepies,

Have just about caught up with all of you & congratulations on jobs/interviews, finger crossing on scan results & commiserations on crap jobs & difficult teens.

hatty - I am sure that if your DD was smoking regularly you would have smelt it on her or her clothes. But think you are right to put a hold on sleep overs for a bit.

We had a wonderful holiday in Turkey - lots of sun (v.v.v.Hot, coolest day was 35C!) and loads of lovely sea swimming.

My greatest triumph was that I decided to do a handstand in the pool & I could execute it! Haven't done one for 40+ years.

Did lots of pool handstands every day & it has done wonders for my back!?!?!

I'm posting a photo of me, so you will all recognise me should we ever meet. Grin

Must admit, sounds like 'friend' of dd2 is being a bit of a tittle tattle.... I can't remember how old your dd2 is, but my dd1 started smoking at sixth form and still does, as do most of her friends. I'm assuming that she will grow out of it at some point or will decide when to stop herself. I think you've done fine so far, a warning shot across the bows, but I'm not sure coming down hard on teens really works terribly well, IMHO.

hattymattie · 20/09/2015 19:41

Ha ha - Magi - looks fabulous. Although 35°C is very hot!

DD2's clothes don't smell but she did cover her back by saying that some of her friends smoke so if her clothes smell it's that. She is honestly cool as a cucumber. Confused

Cremo · 20/09/2015 19:44

Nice legs, shame I can't see your face!!??That place looks gorgeous Magi. Welcome home. Thanks????MI teal is infinitely plus chic that pale blue.Smile

hattymattie · 20/09/2015 19:46

Thanks Beachy - I agree - she's in Upper Sixth - lovingly called Terminale in France.

magimedi · 20/09/2015 19:50

hatty - I forgot you were in France - smoking is more popular there than UK, I think.

So if she is having the odd 'clope' I wouldn't worry too much - I think we all did at that age.

Pick your battles - from what you have said I don't think this is one to really go for.

bigTillyMint · 20/09/2015 19:51

Hatty, I agree that I think you would have smelled it on her clothes if she was smoking a lot and she could hardly be addicted if she didn't smoke on hol. I am guessing that she is in her last year at school? Not really sure you could really stop her - if she really wants to smoke she will. It sounds to me like the friend is for some reason exaggerating. You have made it clear to your DD what you think about her smoking - she either has nothing to worry about (sounds most likely) or go against your wishes and lose your trust.
Could you say to her that you trust what she has told uou and that if you find out that she has been lying, she will have lost your trust?

Magi, good to see you - lovely legs!

hattymattie · 20/09/2015 20:02

Thanks ladies - you are brilliant - I feel she is not on the defensive so I'm inclined to believe her. I don't want to cause a huge uproar about this as with uni' applications going on and predictions being related to grades this term I need her as calm as possible.

Right off to retrieve the telephones (it never stops).

motherinferior · 20/09/2015 20:17

Fab legs MagiSmile

Hatty, my money's on the odd puff.

CointreauVersial · 20/09/2015 22:23

Great set of pins, Magi. Grin

Hope this evening went well, Rose.

An odd weekend here; everyone a bit lacklustre and tired. Nothing really got done, but hey ho.

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 21/09/2015 07:18

So how did it go? Update needed!

Rosebag · 21/09/2015 09:16

Hello Crepeys!!!!!! I am somewhat utterly wrecked, but happy with yesterday. It was astounding to see what a professional cast with professional direction could do with our words. Some of the actors were so on the mark with the personalities we'd created that I kept wanting to hug them. I spent much of the time oscillating between feeling completely over awed by the sheer talent in the room, and then fretting about getting the cheesecake out of the fridge on time and if the drink was suitably chilled. Insane, just mad. Confused

It was SO lovely of MrsS, Molly and Addle to cross the great norf-sarf divide to be there. What lovely Crepeys they are. The one disadvantage to these things is that one doesn't get any time to sit down and talk properly. Hope we will do that at a Crepey meet up before too long.

The feedback was better than I could ever have hoped for, not just from the audience but from the performers themselves and Annoying Director is significantly less annoying when she's plying her trade, but I've always said that…she's incredibly good at what she does…just a mare to work with at times. We will make some tweaks to the final scene, I think…with which I am not entirely happy and one of the actors gave us an ace idea on how to develop his character.

Welcome back Magi yes, fab legs. I'd recognise you anywhere Grin

MI Teal is fab.

Hatty good luck with the interview! And wot the others said about smoking. Do I take it this is the standard, rather than the wacky variety? I can't bring myself to get too worried about it, although with my history, I should. I used to love a social cigarette to two when I was in 6th form although not near the school gates. More so at parties.

Tilly hope it went well and that things are on an even keel with DM.

I have the slightly embarrassing task of teaching at the theatre today. HerrD's class. I wonder if news of the reading has filtered down to him Blush

Collymollypuff · 21/09/2015 10:00

What a fantastic evening we had, Rose! Your play is amazing - really fast-paced and so true to life. I loved it. I particularly liked the humour, which set off the life-and-death seriousness. All the characters were brilliant. I am Becca

Also the gluten free brownies were the best I've ever tasted - I did pop one in my bag on leaving. We crepily crept away at the end because you were so busy - sorry not to have said goodbye properly. Your dd did a fantastic job of welcoming us on arrival, and also on serving brownies to me. Grin She is very good front-of-house staff.

You are an inspiration to us all to carry on writing. With results like that, it's worth all the slog.

hattymattie · 21/09/2015 10:40

Wow - Rose - sounds like your play is amazing - when you're famous I'll boast that I know you Smile. I don't think I could even get started on doing something so fabulous.

Interview on Friday ladies, but my friend has cancelled lunch as she has to write my reference! In my day, references were taken out after interview and before job offer. It all seems very serious.

bigTillyMint · 21/09/2015 11:05

Well done Rose - it sounds like it was a great success Flowers

Just been for the appointment with DM - mild-moderate vascular/mixed dementia as the GP thought. She prescribed Galantamine which is supposed to keep it from progressing quickly and said she thought DM is doing really well given the very low memory score. DM can't see what all the fuss is about as she has always been in her own little world!

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/09/2015 11:10

It was a great evening Rose! Thoroughly enjoyed the play, and in particular the little touches of humour. I am sorry we "creped" off, but you were surrounded by your fans, and we didn't want to break up the party. Please can I have your recipe for Stuffed Monkey?

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/09/2015 11:45

As the next thread will occur around Hallowe'en, can we have Crepe Fear as a title? Grin

herbaceous · 21/09/2015 11:53

Sounds a roaring success, Rose. Brilliant. You must feel elated. I am metaphorically throwing roses on to your stage.

I had a surprisingly lovely time playing bassoon in our local 'songs of praise' service. There's a new rector, and she's just lovely. And playing in an orchestra is always so stirring, especially when the descant-playing trumpets are right in one's ear. I almost felt Christian stirrings within. It won't last.

Have to take DS to Moorfields this afternoon, to get a moulding taken of his eye. Have light-up Star Wars t-shirt as bribery. (Thanks MI!)

bigTillyMint · 21/09/2015 12:09

Grin at MrsS agreeing thread titles ahead of time! Good one - fine by me!

Hope it goes OK Herbs.
