Anything but the C-word!

CointreauVersial · 22/09/2015 13:33

Blimey, I was bereft with no MN yesterday evening, and I had all sorts going on.

Hold The Front Page - DS has split, rather messily, from GF. He had been a little too hasty to vent on social media about the reasons why, so there were vitriolic texts pinging back and forth. GF's older brother (uni age) texted DD1 (!) to say "tell your brother xyz, or else.....", which I was not impressed about, seeing as DD1 is only just 14 and pretty oblivious to DS's love life. So I texted GF's DM, suggesting it would be better if we all stayed out of it, and wishing GF well, then I got a cascade of angry texts.....gah!

They are 15! Babies! I am really not getting involved in the whys and wherefors, and am not surprised that DS hasn't been completely mature about his first ever break-up. Let's face it, I know plenty of 35 year olds who behave like children in such circumstances. Am sincerely hoping the dust settles soon.

LOL at PAFO and PABAH! But do hope there are no lasting injuries (for both Strops' DD and the young footballer!)

Hooray for the arrival of work, Herbs.

Oh dear, sounds like a v messy break-up,CV - with the gf's whole family involved in the fallout Confused

Dd had her ankle x-rayed and nothing broken, thank goodness. She has a bloodclot on her shin and her circulation isn't great, so she has been instructed to sit with her leg elevated for 48 hrs and is only allowed to get up to go to the loo. As dh said: not much different from normal then. Have asked teachers to email work...

bigTillyMint · 22/09/2015 15:00

That's good HerbsSmile

Oh dear, CV - sounds tricky. But breakups at that tender age are likely to be difficult for at least one of them. Hopefully he (and the others involved) has realised that social media is not the place to air ones washing. Well not when you can be easily identifiedWink

Stropps Grin at your DH's comment! DS is due home imminently, so I will be able to see the grim reality.

herbaceous · 22/09/2015 15:03

Off to get DS. This morning he was all tearful, saying he didn't want to go to school as 'I miss you too much' Sad. No doubt when I pick him up he'll be all lively and carefree and not give a damn. Then make me buy him some sweets.

bigTillyMint · 22/09/2015 15:26

Eeeuuuwwww! It is rather swollen and black and blue. Have despatched him for a shower before I apply the tubigrip!

Stropperella · 22/09/2015 15:55

Ahh, BTM, good luck with getting the tubigrip on. That's prob going to hurt. Shall I send you a pic of dd's leg and they can compare injuries? Grin

Lalsy · 22/09/2015 16:12

Shock at crepey dc leg injuries - sounds like they could illustrate an A and E manual together. Hope they both recover quickly - BTM do ou know what ds has done?

CV, that sounds well out of order.

I assumed that Mumsnet had melted yesterday as people poured on to read pig witticisms. So had a look at twitter instead, where Dianne Abbott and Louise Mensch were getting vile, disgusting abuse Angry. You have to be a brave woman to put yourself out there, in our most modern public space. Shameful. Rant over.

bigTillyMint · 22/09/2015 16:30

He thinks it's just sprained. My friend said soft tissue damage. I think he's going to see the club physio this evening. Grin at them comparing injuries - does your DD even know how she did it Stropps?!
I missed the Twitter uproar Lalsy. But I did like the cartoon Stropps linked to and various other things on FB.

Lalsy · 22/09/2015 16:44

There were a lot of funny comments BTM - what got my goat was the really disgusting misogynist trolling. Women shouldn't need defending on the internet just because they are women.

Lalsy · 22/09/2015 17:06

On an S and B note, any crepey recommendations for shoes that are as comfortable as trainers? I mean really really comfy, supportive trainers.

Stropperella · 22/09/2015 17:09

Twitter depresses me and I have to avoid it for my own sanity. Truly, it quickly convinces me that there are a lot more unpleasant people out there than I hope is really the case. Sad

BTM, she slipped in a puddle of beer and slammed into some stone steps. The party was at an olden days mansion with lots of uneven steps and flagstones etc. Someone else fell down the stairs and is now on crutches.

motherinferior · 22/09/2015 17:20

BTM, as someone who once damaged their ankle quite nastily, I’d definitely get it checked out.

Poor old DS and exGF, CV. Not that I managed my love life much better several decades older.

herbaceous · 22/09/2015 17:26

I've got an interview for a job!

It's for a HLTA (high-level teaching assistant) for the EAL (English as additional language) department of a nearby up-and-coming secondary school, where 90% of the pupils are BME. While I am both over-qualified and under-experienced, my English language training should stand me in good stead.

I shall be picking the brains of anyone who stands still long enough regarding what the hell a TA does, and ideas for convincing arguments of why I want to do it rather than be a 'proper teacher'! (True answer - I don't have enough experience to get a job).

Stropperella · 22/09/2015 17:39

Excellent news, Herbs. Sounds just up your street. (your "True Answer" is a lot better than mine Wink)

Stropperella · 22/09/2015 17:39

MI, when do you start your lecturing job?

Collymollypuff · 22/09/2015 18:44

Rose, I see what you mean about Jonno, but I was, ahem, electrified by Sunil.

I have leg-related dd issues which I can't even post about because I'm that anxious (following her holiday accident) but solidarity, Crepeys.

Congrats on the interview, Herbs.

motherinferior · 22/09/2015 18:48

Next Weds, Stropps. Just once a week. Am not nervous at all oh no, I am suave and assured and competent. Ho yes.

bigTillyMint · 22/09/2015 18:53

StroppsShockEnvy at party in an old mansion. How is she now? DH has taken DS to hopefully get the footy physio to check it out but the treatment will be RICE - rest, ice, compression, elevation.

Herbs, that sounds great! I have no idea what HLTAs in sec schools do! Would you maybe run short courses for brand new EAL arrivers as part of it? I guess it really depends on what the school want you to do.

Lalsy, trainers are a fashion item - wear them!

GiddyGiddyGoat · 22/09/2015 19:12

HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa!

they're having a laugh - geddit

herbaceous · 22/09/2015 19:33

Merciful lord. And why can't the model stand up straight.

BTM, I'm not entirely clear, either. Support the teacher, mainly, and keep a close eye on individual students to see where they need extra help. Perhaps.

Lalsy · 22/09/2015 19:42

Herbs, congrats! I think there is a staffroom section on here - maybe they would know?

Lordy at that dress. I'll stick to trainers Grin. But would like some shoes to wear occasionally.

bigTillyMint · 22/09/2015 19:43

Herbs, I think that's what a TA would do. A HLTA does more than that IMHE - cover lessons in some schools, maybe other stuff - more than just supporting the teacher <a class="break-all" href="http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20130401151715/www.education.gov.uk/publications/eOrderingDownload/TDA0420.pdf" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> would this help? or this? they may be out of date, of course!

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/09/2015 19:44

How Fucking much, GGG? Oh I would buy it, two even, but they've sold out in my size.... Ha ha ha. As if.

herbaceous · 22/09/2015 19:55

Ooh, marvellous BTM. Most helpful.

There is in fact a quite fulsome job spec, but you know how these things swim before the eyes.

It summarises: "taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision. This may involve planning, preparing and delivering learning activities for individuals/groups or short term for whole classes and monitoring students and assessing, recording and reporting on students’ achievement, progress and development. Responsible for the management and development of a specialist area within the school and to be a member of an internal moderation team for Functional Skills in English."

motherinferior · 22/09/2015 19:56

If Johnnie Boden thinks that's 'very sexy'....
