Anything but the C-word!

Oh Monty you poor love. I do hope you have recovered from the bout of Honky Brianism. You are certainly as knowledgeable as any electrician. I've learnt a thing or two by reading your post and Lalsy's Clearly there's an appliance fault which is tripping everything?

Nice to have a friend stay Beachy And good luck to DS. I must say I was relieved that I persuaded DD not to do it. It was very selfish of me but after going through it all with DS2 I just couldn't face it again.

Crem we're always here for sounding out, possible solutions and failing all of that hugs, tea and sympathy xx

Rudy sounds like reflective practice gone mad…just make it up…. Confused

Glad you are more reassured Hatty Smile DS2 has been on tenterhooks all week knowing that he'll be informed of his predicted A2 grades…well, he has been, and is well pleased. This apparently means he's in the running for an unconditional offer from his front runner, Birmingham. It seems predicted grades are more powerful than the actual results!

I do hope other sickly Crepeys are on the mend…. Rudy CV Herbs Beachy... who have I forgotten? I have been feeling absolutely awful but at least the broken glass throat has abated. I'm just horribly snotty now, and I just can't shake the headache. I went into automatic pilot for teaching on Thurs night but it's getting to that point in the course where the punters start just hanging around after and don't want to go home. I was silently pleading with them…please, please just LEAVE! Yesterday I ventured out to keep a breakfast meet up with friends and it did me good. Today is business as usual. Domestic and fxxking art homework, but having a local meal out with friends tonight which I shall sniff my way through to counteract a bad dose of cabin fever. Grin

Rosebag · 10/10/2015 12:36

Yes, amazing jacket Tilly

motherinferior · 10/10/2015 12:43

I am in the midlands with friendsSmile.

Now even more confused about teaching as I've been informed there are lots of procedures I didn't even know about. Must draft some crisp emails on Monday.

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/10/2015 13:03

I am out with my cousins and my mother's youngest brother tonight, in the wilds of Norf Landan. I have just looked up the pub and it doesn't shut until 2.00 am. My family all drink like fishes. This could be messy...

Auriga · 10/10/2015 13:32

Ward Round

Rose, Rudy, Herbs, CV, Beachy, Montserrat - hope you are taking it easy, sipping soothing drinks, allowing others to wait on you. Remember Sister will be round to take your temperature later. Don't let her catch you doing anything strenuous.

Lalsy · 10/10/2015 13:45

Loving Sister Auriga Grin, almost worth being ill for (do feel rather achey I must say.....). Speedy recovery, on and all.

hattymattie · 10/10/2015 13:57

Wow Rose that's great news on the predicted grades. Well done to DS and glad you're feeling better.

Mrs S - you have a lot of stamina.Wink

Blackduck · 10/10/2015 14:26

Rose Birmingham give unconditional offers so he could be well in....
Shame I didn't get the job there - could have kept an eye on him!

Here we have schoolmate. Ds's English teacher wrote 'you didn't write this' on a piece of homework and said he either copied if off the interweb or that me or dp wrote it. Dp wrote a letter stating we didn't write it, we supported and encouraged him and it was his work. She read the letter and said to ds ' I never accused you of plagerism'. And went on in front of the class. Erm it's there in black (green) and white on his book......
Do think it was a bit off to write that rather than write 'we need to talk about this'. Hardly a way to encourage learning....

Friends for dinner tonight so house scrubbed, cooking to start...

bigTillyMint · 10/10/2015 14:43

CV, I got the black because I have been wanting a black one for ages. I liked the neutral one too though!

MrsS, sounds like my family!

Well done to Rose's DS - unconditional offer sounds fabSmile

Just been putting the sitting room straight (newly done floorboards look fab) and I have ordered a new sofa and footstool from trusty old JL who F'd up on the last sofa order and so I got a massive reduction - I hope they don't F up on this one, I'm dying for it to come and there's the usual 8 week wait.

DH is taking DD to the flicksShock (he has been promising her quality time together for years!) and I have DS and his mates playing FIFA in the loft. Apparently they slept out (in a tent, thankfully!) in his mates garden last night. Who needs scouts or DoE?Grin

bigTillyMint · 10/10/2015 16:39

Auriga, is it your DD's birthday today? Exactly same day and year as friends DDSmile

I have been sorting and throwing out and reorganising. We now have 2 big empty shelves in a cupboard and nothing to put on them. Yet!

motherinferior · 10/10/2015 16:49

Sorry for weird post duplication. Was in pub with bad connection. Can recommend rhubarb cider.

Auriga · 10/10/2015 16:55

Her birthday is next week, BTM but she wanted to celebrate this w/e so that it doesn't run into the start of DM's 90th. I've made two cakes and two vats of chilli & I'm about to go and get pizzas and drinks for them. There are half as many guests as she used to have for birthdays but they make the same amount of noise Grin I'll be able to practise my singing as there's no chance they'll hear me.

bigTillyMint · 10/10/2015 17:04

Rhubarb cider? Is that a thing? I want to try it!

Sounds like she'll have a fab time AurigaSmile

herbaceous · 10/10/2015 18:15

Today's lunch was disappointingly unboozy, though we did stop for a bellini in one of the many tarted up local pubs near us. And poked our nose into the new wine shop. Honestly, it's gone mental round here. In the past six months, a short stretch of road has got an artisanal cheese and craft beer place, a spanish deli, a Debbie Bliss homewares shop, and a 'pop up' that sells expensive kids clothes and odd pottery. Not to mention the macha latte place near me.

And yes, you might have a point. I am diverting my coat obsession into DS. Fuelled by big discounts at Boden - tempting to get him two coats. Almost for the price of one!

bigTillyMint · 10/10/2015 18:52

Debbie Bliss homewares? I thought she did knitting wool and patterns?!

Just get one and save your moneyWink

BeachysFlipFlops · 10/10/2015 19:38

We bought rhubarb vodka last year.... Was yummy.

I've spent this afternoon moving dd2's room around to give her a bit more room. We had another radiator fitted in there in the summer and I was really annoyed to find two short bits of copper pipe left under the underlay, making two big bumps in the carpets.... Much sweating, hand scraping and use of a long wooden spoon and all removed. We've not had much success with plumbers in this house....

Tomorrow we need to clear out all excess books, clothes and toys. Trouble with the third child is that they have cumulative clutter from all the others Smile Herbs, I can't imagine you are short of books but let me know? Not sure how to ship them up to you though....

herbaceous · 10/10/2015 20:09

That would be amazing, Beachy. DS has many books, but can always do with more, at the next 'stage'. He's a big fan of Roald Dahl, and Mr Gum, and has just started reading Harry Potter, though I'm limiting that to the first book, as they start to get a bit scary after that!

We might be able to meet up in town in a lunch break, or similar, and we could have a mini-meet up involving coffee and/or wine!

Current technology gripe - we have BT Vision, and watching a film or box set on demand is painful, as the bloody thing buffers every five minutes, and you have to start again. Never happens during DS's interminable episodes of Star Wars Rebels, mind you...

BTM - I want before and after pictures of your lounge. Or is that non-U? Should it be 'sitting room'?

NUFC69 · 11/10/2015 07:52

We arrived home at nine last night (miraculously the flight was 45 minutes early!). This morning I am lying in bed surrounded by heaps of dirty washing - DH and I had words when I discovered that he had left the laundry bin full of dirty clothing - why, why? One enduring memory of Cyprus will be sitting in a pavement cafe in a little town in the hills, when all of a sudden a group of tourists (possibly Austrians) suddenly started singing in harmony. They must have been a choir, I think, but it was magic (and like a scene from a musical).

I hope everyone is recovering from their various colds, stomach problems? Crem, are you ok? I hope the electrics are still all right, Lalsy? Before he retired DH was away on business a lot, and that was always when I had problems at home: water dripping through the kitchen ceiling, car not working, etc, and twice I had falls and when he rang to ask me to pick him up from the airport I had to tell him I was in plaster and couldn't drive. NDNs have always been very good.

We're off to a surprise 60th birthday lunch today and then I can't wait to go to see the DGC (not their parents you understand!). I have withdrawal symptoms from cuddles from little chubby bodies.

Rudy, I would love to see footage of thatGrin

NU, go and get your chubby cuddlesSmile

Herbs, I didn't take any before pics, and it's not that huge a change - just re-sanded floor, new sofa and new rug (waiting till I get the sofa to decide on the colourWink) and that won't be here for ages. Will need to get some new cushions too...

MontserratCaballe · 11/10/2015 10:14

Welcome home NU. Now go and squidge those lovely babies.

BTM, love the jacket. I know I owe you a text and I will sort ASAP.

Rudy, that sounds like a proper knees up. Fantastic. Good luck with the rest of their stay.

Cake looks amazing. Is it Nigella's malteser cake? Cake

Have followed Sr Auriga's orders and feel much better, though tummy still a bit dodge. Have had a terrible disaster as well. I was perusing watches on Ebay on my phone and accidentally pressed the wrong button and bought one! It usually asks for confirmation of purchase or Paypal details but it went straight through. DD2 was hassling me at the time about knitting so I wasn't concentrating. It is £300 and the seller is in the US. Bloody great. I have emailed to cancel but they are not up yet. They accepts returns and seem very concerned about their feedback score so fingers crossed they will just cancel but I do feel silly. It's not a watch I want, nor can my poor bank balance stand a £300 hit with 2 weeks til payday. Please tell me I will laugh about this in time.

Have a restful Sunday, y'all.

Blackduck · 11/10/2015 10:33

MC ouch! Hopefully they will let you cancel....

Auriga hope party went well!

Hungover here, but lovely to see friends. But forgot the old 'never cook something you have never done before' advice...... Dinner was not the best.

Rudy sounds interesting!

I intend to do nothing today....

MrsSchadenfreude · 11/10/2015 10:38

Got away reasonably lightly last night, so not feeling too bad this morning. Were we in the same rough old Norf Landan boozer, Rudy? Grin Obligatory kebab and then the the night bus home.

motherinferior · 11/10/2015 11:54

I am in (cut-price) first class carriage slowly chugging back to the Smoke. Couple of crepey-aged dames in here with me, drinking prosecco with blueberries and snacking on olives. They're coming for lunch at Claridges and then heading back. I greatly admire their (bottle blonde bottle tan) style.Wine
