Nice present ! I got a card covered in glitter at 7am and a slice of toast !

I would like a navy silk-like shirt, or maybe that should be a blouse ("can't wear anything a man can wear"). I think this will be my mission for the year. I only do online shopping but I haven't found the right place for me yet !

fooogle · 16/03/2015 21:10

didi my present was similar Grin though I did get 'time off' and did the charity shops on Saturday. Found a liberty print shirt, not sure if pattern adds up to the right look on me but... Grey cashmere roll neck though wore it today and think it stops at my widest hip point so not flattering.
Silk tops...would somewhere like monsoon be worth a go? They do silk often though may not be your style.
Great haul queen I have a similar black blazer from Zara, I love the look though sometimes I feel a bit formal. Maybe I've got a bit of natural?!

BallsToThat · 17/03/2015 09:23

Hi all. First time posting after reading the thread on and off and getting lots of ideas (thank you)

I've got a question!

I'm having some success with basing a very casual, 'school run' style for Spring around my colours. I've got tee shirts/vests/cardis in a palette of blues and greys that suit me, to go with boue/grey/white jeans + white Converse or Vans OR light grey anole boots + a navy jacket.

But I've got a few pairs of tan/'sludge' coloured ankle boots that I really love and want to keep wearing that just look wrong with those colours. I can wear them with navy or a dark teal on top (both in my palette)...but need ideas for other winter colours that work with winter but arent blue, basically!

Any ideas? Tia

BallsToThat · 17/03/2015 09:24

Excuse crap sentences that dont make sense...you get the gist I hope!

Librarina · 17/03/2015 14:31

Can someone check this and tell me if it's ok for a 'Sprinter Winter'.
All maternity clothes are grey or burgundy and I want a splash of colour!

Oh yes, I appear to be pregnant again, so all my careful recent purchases will have to be boxed up until I'm back at work/back to usual shape some time in 2016!

Librarina · 17/03/2015 14:32

Would help if I posted the actual link!

mimiasovitch · 17/03/2015 18:11

Congratulations Librarina, and I think that looks like an excellent blue.

QueenCardigan · 17/03/2015 19:53

Yay a winter baby! Congrats librarina
balls can't help with tan boots. Will they go with the more pink/red side of the pallette?

misslemonsfilingcabinet · 17/03/2015 21:26

Hello! May I join in as a new "burnished" winter? My best colours are all very dark (* 100% black, navy etc) but I was hoping for some ideas for the "ice" ones. I only got at best 25% or 50% but I love some softer ideas to balance my (bit harsh) best colours. What do you think of these? The mint velvet one is a bit spendy? Does any have similar? The French Connection ones are nice and a good range of "winter-friendly" (I think)
www.mintvelvet.co.uk/mint-slim-shirt/tops/mint-v/fcp-product/5191
www.frenchconnection.com/product/Woman+Collections+Basics+Collection/766ZA/Polly+Plains+Pocket+T-Shirt.htm

Also a stupid thing, but I love natural fabrics and it seems really hard to find true and lasting winter colours in them. They all seem a bit muted and I don't want to fall into the polyester parrot look with shiny black trouser and fuchsia tops (shudder!).. Any tips to save me from this fate??

Thanks so much, and my inexpert ideas about the "sludge boot"- wear them! They are far from your face and I'm sure can be blended in to trousers etc..

misslemonsfilingcabinet · 17/03/2015 21:27

Ps these also look a winter friendly range:

misslemonsfilingcabinet · 17/03/2015 21:33

And finally... The descent into polyester parrot madness or a good match for a winter blue?

Sorry will try to work out shorter links

misslemonsfilingcabinet · 19/03/2015 17:20

Oh no...did I kill the thread Sad

NowhereNow · 19/03/2015 20:23

Hi Miss,

Welcome! I love the colour of those blue trousers from Mango, but I don't think the style would suit me.

I'm a jewel winter, but got the 3 darkest neutrals as double star at 100 too Smile

I think there are some other burnished winters on the thread.

NeitherHereOrThere · 19/03/2015 21:11

That pink top is a gorgeous and definitely a winter colour. Not sure about the aqua top though - its hard to tell online.

misslemonsfilingcabinet · 19/03/2015 21:16

Thanks Neither and hi Nowhere! The aqua top is the wrong colour link (techno clumsy) but that top has some good winter colours in the range (I think anyway), like the burnt raspberry maybe?

NeitherHereOrThere · 19/03/2015 21:44

Yes, some good winter colours in that range I agree.

Have a look at the bottom for instructions on how to do short links Wink

SorrelForbes · 20/03/2015 08:33

Just catching up with everything 'Winter'...

mimiasovitch Thinking about your work wear question above. What about some 3/4 length cigarette style trousers with loafers/dring shoe style flats?

didireallysaythat Have you looked at the Uniqlo silk tops? The Reiss Yara blouse comes in navy and is in the sale. It's not silk but I have it in white and it's very flattering.

misslemonsfilingcabinet Welcome! Yes, FC have got some good basics in Winter colours at the moment.

Spotted this dress on AlliumB. Expensive but when I tried some of their styles last year, I did think that they were nicely done.

NeitherHereOrThere · 20/03/2015 16:20

Latest purchase wool skirt - I have one in red and love wearing it so have got this in black and with it being wool & lined, I think its great value. The 18 inch one comes to just above my knees which is ideal for me.

SorrelForbes · 20/03/2015 18:47

Nice skirt!

I've had a disappointing make-up day today. I'm still on the hunt for a really amazing foundation and despite trying lots of samples, I just can't find a colour match that I'm happy with. I should mention that I've been colour matched by Boots No.7 and their Cool Ivory is a 99% perfect match. I just fancy something a bit more high end IYKWIM? I've tried using the Findation site but haven't found it that useful tbh.

So, over the last month I've tried:

Clinique Beyond Perfecting - Shade 2
Armani Silk - 4.25
EL Double Wear - 1N2
EL Double Wear Light - 1.0
Dior Star - 10, 11, 12, 13, 20, 21
Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua - 20
Urban Decay Naked SKin - 3.5
YSL Fusion Ink - BD40
YSL Touch Éclat - BD40 (the best to date!)

I even took my No.7 one in with me today to JL and Debenhams and asked the SAs at the Clinique, YSL and EL counters to match the colour to that. I tried all the samples again today at home in the daylight and the No.7 is by far the closest to my skin. I even asked DH for his opinion (!) and he said the No.7 one was the only decent match. He asked why all the others were yellow and not pink like my skin! Good question.

I know this is probably not strictly a 'Winter' issue but working on the theory that we all have cool tones, I thought one of you could suggest something else. I've yet to try Lancôme but I remember using Teint Miracle a few years ago and not being impressed with the colour.

mimiasovitch · 20/03/2015 20:46

I can't help with the make up Sorrel - I use No7 as it feels the most right for me. I tried a benefit one and the new bare minerals liquid one, but keep going back to my cool vanilla. On the subject of workwear, I look dreadful in most trousers, being large of hip and thigh. I do have a couple of pairs of Boden's bistro trousers, which weren't too bad, but I feel more me in a skirt or frock. To that end I bought this skirt, which is so lovely on. With a tight fitting top it makes my waist look little, and I look super feminine. I'm not sure whether to keep it for work or play really. I also bought this, which is also lovely on. I do feel better now I've bought something at least. I'm on a mission to lose weight, so I shouldn't buy too much.

SorrelForbes · 20/03/2015 20:51

If you like the Bistro trousers, try the Chelsea Turn Ups. They're much more flattering on me and I too am large on thigh and hip!

mimiasovitch · 20/03/2015 21:09

I did, but they didn't fit so well. I don't suit jeans either, but I find spring so awkward when it's too cool for bare legs, but too warm for tights. Some form of trouser would be good. How do you think wide legs would suit a, ahem, somewhat rounded, if hourglass, body?

TinyLittleOne · 20/03/2015 21:14

Sorrel - I use Laura Mercier Moisture Supreme in Blush Ivory and it suits my pale pink toned skin.

Miss Lemons - I am another burnished winter! My consultant had trouble deciding if I was Autumn or Winter, before settling on Burnished Winter. Was yours an easy 'diagnosis'? My 100% colours are Indigo, Royal Purple, Navy, Raspberry, Damson, Carmine and Dark Emerald. All my ice colours are only rate as 25% and even then, they are not deemed outstanding! The ice colours are quite hard to find on the high street, so was thinking about getting a couple of vests/tops from Kettlewell colours to go under jumper, cardies and jackets. With regards to your boots have you thought about dying them to a winter colour, or do you like the colour of them?

Did somone say they were after a navy silk shirt? This looks lovely from Massimo Dutti, although I can only dream about this being a bit of a shorty.

NeitherHereOrThere · 20/03/2015 21:52

I love that navy shirt but its too loose and sloughy for me. I feel better in fitted shirts. The short A line skirt I linked to earlier today is the kind I wear for work - easy to dress up with a jacket and smart top or dress down with LS tops and cardigans/jumpers. I usually wear opaque tights, but with varying thickness depending on how cold/warm it is and loafers/boots. The same goes for above the knee shift dresses.

With a knee length pencil skirt or dress, I prefer to wear heels or smart boots.

With trousers, I wear GAP's slim fit ankle length trousers - they do a version of these most years. I have a small bum/large waist though.

QueenCardigan · 21/03/2015 07:19

I can't be much help with the makeup sorrel but I've just got a tester for a laura mercier Bb cream. I really like it so might be a brand worth trying?

Does anyone have a pink bag? sorrell I think you have a pink coach bag? Do you use it lots and do you use it when wearing colour or just neutrals? There's a pink bag I love but I'm just wondering if it'll be as useful as my neutral bags?
