Hello Winters!

I am a Burnished Winter - a Winter that is nearer to the Autumn end of the colour wheel. Cool, dark, deep colours suit me, rather than the typical jewel bright colours that you associate with Winter. Is anyone else a Burnished Winter?

That Marsala colour really threw me too, but these outfits would definitely suit my colouring. I especially love Olivia Palermo's outfit . However that might be because I am a Burnished Winter - what do you think?

NeitherHereOrThere · 17/01/2015 18:47

The marsala in the outfits in that link is v close to burgundy so would look good on dark winters. The marsala in the other link is very brown.

QueenCardigan · 18/01/2015 11:29

tiny those definitely look more burgundy so would be great for winters.

A couple of people on the vogue thread have just had their colours done and are getting loads of compliments. I'm a bit Confused because I've never had that. It makes me doubt whether I'm correctly diagnosed.

ForSaleChesterDraws · 18/01/2015 14:17

Could you go for a rerate QC? How do you feel about your colours? Do you feel wow in them?

I never get the difference between burnished winter and sultry winter? I was told I'm a sultry winter and I love the dresses in the Marsala link. They look fab.

didireallysaythat · 18/01/2015 14:24

Queen I'm going to drop my consultant an email and ask for a refresh as I'm not confident. What I'd really like is to go to a different consultant -- does anyone know if that's possible ? I guess as a franchise business it isn't ??

ItIsntJustAPhase · 18/01/2015 15:06

Am quite excited about wearing this pink patterned skirt this summer. Checked it with a load of tops and it goes with our palette. Roll on warmer weather!

ItIsntJustAPhase · 18/01/2015 15:06

Queen maybe you didn't look rough before. Grin I did.

NeitherHereOrThere · 18/01/2015 15:28

Having read this review decided to get one in The Redder the Better.

It feels nice and easy to use, quite creamy and moisturising and is definitely more of a lipstick than a stain.

The red is the kind of red that suit a lot of people - not orange and definitely no pink either (there is an orangey red in the range as well quite a few dark pinks in the range). Currently on offer in Boots at something like £1.50 cheaper than the RRP.

SorrelForbes · 18/01/2015 15:31

The Redder the Better looks lovely. I'll add it to the ever growing list Grin

Stokey · 18/01/2015 16:19

I've only had a couple of comments like that QueenC and only when I've been wearing unusual double starred colours like pine green or fuschia. Were you a spring before and re-rated as a winter? I agree with Itisn't, maybe you just look good anyway.

I wasn't that blown away by my consultant, and didn't feel like she explained the difference between a sultry winter (me) and a jewel winter (DM) very well. Also we have quite different skin colouring as my mum is Asian while I've inherited my Dad's Irish skin with freckles so it felt a bit odd being the same season. But I can see the winter colours suit us both.

TinyLittleOne · 18/01/2015 16:39

I am on my phone, so apologies for any typos.

Queen - My consultant had trouble telling if I was Winter or Autumn, as colours from both seasons worked for me. However the litmus test were the white/cream drapes. I looked awful in cream and great in white - could this test help you, or do you think you are a Summer?

Stoked and ForSale - I would love to know the difference between Burnished and Sultry too. Does anyone know how many Winters there are?

TinyLittleOne · 18/01/2015 16:47

Sorry, the cream/white draping was poorly explained. If you look better in white, then you will be either a Summer or Winter. However if you look better in cream, you will be either a Spring or an Autumn.

QueenCardigan · 18/01/2015 20:44

Thanks for all your responses. I just having a downer on myself must be premenstrual. My consultant was fantastic and I could see it on the day. Maybe after nearly 2 years I'm just used to it now and stop feeling wow. I'd love to have a refresh but sadly my consultant moved a little bit further away and I'd already travelled to see her so she's over 90mins away now. I definitely look wow in cobalt and lagoon/Chinese blue I can see that dark navy looks fab as does ice blue. There's often been a teeny weeny part of me that wonders whether i should have been a summer but that's just because that's what I was expecting (I'm blonde but I know I'm deginitely cool rather than autumn/spring). stokey no, I wasnt a spring (think that may have been foogle) although I am a sprinter so suit all the bright end of the winter spectrum.

NeitherHereOrThere · 18/01/2015 21:32

Queen - Thinking about this, it could be that you were already well groomed and turned out that you don't attract many comments? I have always been interested in clothes, often worn a lot of winter colours and smart clothes (although I made some awful mistakes) before my HOC diagnosis so it does not surprise people who know me well when I look good.

fooogle · 18/01/2015 22:24

Hi winters
Yep it was me that was a spring before. I sometimes wonder if I am warm rather than cool but that's mostly with really bright colours and I think that's the jewel winterness just wanting the bright. I can see that yellow tones things make me look sallow and...yellow.
queen I bet the looking great anyway thing is the real reason you don't get masses of compliments. Im not sure I do either specifically that tie in to colours...also know I am crap at sharing my compliments out so maybe everyone else is!
Sometimes do you maybe crave the thrill of the initial diagnosis. It's still good when it wears off but def a buzz early on?

fooogle · 18/01/2015 22:26

neither how you finding the lip pencily thing? I randomly bought the nude shade fool as we don't suit a nude in our poundstretcher Grin. Sadly no other shades. Like the texture.

NeitherHereOrThere · 19/01/2015 08:10

I've had the Rimmel Colour Rush balm for only a couple of days and I have to say I am impressed so far esp since it is so cheap for what it does.

Easy to apply and longer lasting than I thought it would - unlike proper lipsticks, it fades evenly into a stain without leaving an outline. The colour is what I would call a neutral red (i,e not warm but not cool either) though.

Stokey · 19/01/2015 09:08

I think it was the sprinter winter - Winter going into Spring - that I was thinking of QueenC

I'm not sure what the difference is bewteen Sultry and Burnished Tiny.
My best colours are the slightly darker ones. So I have doubles stars at 100 in all the purples, fuschia, raspberry, carmine and pine green and singles stars in royal and electric blue, dark emerald and magenta. Black and Charcoal are also good with double stars at 75 but all the ice colours are only 25 as well as mole and stone.

So basically I really need more purple in my wardrobe!

Valsoldknickers · 19/01/2015 10:11

Hi there, I dip in and out of this thread with great fascination! Many years ago I was told I was a winter (can't remember which organisation) but I feel like I would like to be assessed properly. Can anyone please post a link? When I google I just get loads of hairdressers! Thanks in advance.

fooogle · 19/01/2015 11:43

consultants for Valsold

Uh oh Neither, maybe I will end up with another lipstick...! Am wearing my Kryolan one though think it is def a bit warm in tone. Sometimes I wonder why yellowy skin (which I think mine is!) shouldn't suit a coordinating lippy, also, don't models wear all kinds of lippie and not look 'wrong' wish I was such model! Anyway, will practice some more...

Stokey · 19/01/2015 13:17

If anyone is after a beanie, this cashmere Cos one is on sale and a perfect match for damson (20). Lifted my outfit as soon as I put it on.

I also picked up a burgundy and fuschia snood in Accessorise, not great quality but reduced to a fiver so worth a punt.

NeitherHereOrThere · 19/01/2015 13:18

Don't forget that with models - they adjust the lighting and make up to make sure they look good in photos...

QueenCardigan · 19/01/2015 21:15

Saddo that I am, I took some photos of myself with various cardigans draped around me. I'm happier now! Sometimes you just can't see it in a mirror but looking at photos has confirmed thencolours and lipstick look fine Smile. Tomorrow I may drape myself with anything in the house I can lay my hands on in the wrong colours.

QueenCardigan · 19/01/2015 21:26

I ordered theses jeans at the weekend which arrived today (speedy service) and I love them.

QueenCardigan · 19/01/2015 21:27

Also bought this top. I don't wear a lot of black anymore but I love the lace shoulders and cuffs and it fits really well.
