Welcome snow

I've ordered the following in the sales and I'm hoping some of it is unsuitable as I went way over budget!

All Saints black dress

Matches navy silk t-shirt

Jigsaw dark blue jeans

Jigsaw sequin skirt

Jigsaw blue and black jumper

NeitherHereOrThere · 29/12/2014 09:10

MoreSnow - I would probably go for ankle boots especially if you are a natural type. Alternatively long black well fitting boots would look good although these tend to look smart and classic.

Here's a great link on wearing ankle boots

SorrelForbes · 29/12/2014 12:27

The Reiss midnight blue jacket is going back. It's lovely but it's cut too square in the shoulders for me.

The Matches Fredanavy silk t-shirt arrived this morning. It's not an exact match but good enough (I find it hard to distinguish between the various darker navy shades anyway). It's a slightly different cut to a lot of tops I've been buying lately (e.g. from Mango, Boden) in that it's roomy across the bust, fits nicely on the waist and is farily narrow along the bottom hem. When I took it out of the box I was worried it would be too small but it's actually very flattering. It's expensive for what it is but I think being silk it looks smart enough for a night out or for work (under a jacket).

QueenCardigan · 29/12/2014 15:54

Welcome moresnow. Dresses always look weird on me with ankle boots but I think that's because I have shortish legs.

sorrell I always love your links and your clothes are so elegant. Mostly too grown up for me but I love them anyway.

I bought a couple of fat face tops in the sale and some shoes. I'll link in a minute....

QueenCardigan · 29/12/2014 15:59

shoes. I've only done a quick try on so far but I think they're keepers.

QueenCardigan · 29/12/2014 16:02

top. I already have a very similar one with long sleeves which I wear loads so I know this will get even too and I like 3/4 sleeves for the warmer weather.

QueenCardigan · 29/12/2014 16:04

very similar top agsin and I have a short sleeved version like this already and wore it loads.

mimiasovitch · 29/12/2014 17:05

Love those shoes QueenC. I wear ankle boots all the time, and think that I should wear shoes more often, especially as I no longer work in an office where I wore courts all the time. Moresnow - I always wear dresses or skirts, and mostly with ankle boots, sometimes with flat knee high boots, but that's only when I've got a bit of walking to do. My skirts tend to stop just below the knee, but I'm a bit (ahem) tubby and this length improves the look of my legs no end. I am tall though, so I guess that helps a bit too. Anyway, I have some which lace up, and others like these. We won't talk about all the others squirrelled away under the bed!

SorrelForbes · 30/12/2014 08:17

Thank you Queen. I must admit that my style day has had a huge influence on my wardrobe. I'm now worrying whether I've gone too grown up/old!

Stokey · 30/12/2014 08:40

Great shoes QueenC.

Have you got the Jigsaw jumper yet Sorrel? I'm looking for some new jumpers. The sleeves look a bit short but probably cos the model is 5ft 10 - should be Ok on me at 5ft3!

Lots of the online stuff seems to have sold out. I saw a pink cashmere jumper in Uniqlo & a cobalt one in John Lewis before Christmas whch aren't on line so will try and venture to the shops today or tomorrow.

There are lots of short heeled ankle boots around.

Also what about fly boots? These are long and flat heeled and the style is pretty natural so would probably look good on you.

QueenCardigan · 30/12/2014 13:31

moresnow I personally loved the style day even more than the colours. i don't wear heels much either as I have 3 dc but the youngest starts school next year so I'm coming out the other end. I feel more polished though if I have a small heel and I do often prefer heels for nights out.
sorrel how old are you if you don't mind me asking? I don't think they're too grown up as they obviously suit your style. I have to be careful not to go too girly/youthful. I just love your polished elegance.

Anyone have any new year style resolutions?
Mine are...
-buy more shoes! I'd like to start wearing my heeled boots more at weekends now the cd are getting older. We definitely spend less time in parks than we once did.
-no more coloured handbags
-no more lipsticks or nail polishes (I may have to avoid this thread though to stick to that for a year!! Grin)

SorrelForbes · 30/12/2014 16:28

I'm 45 but without sounding too deluded I'm always told that I look in my early 30s (my mum looks much younger than her years too so I've been lucky in the gene department. Plus I spend a shit load on my skin!). However, I can see that I look much better when I'm wearing smarter outfits so I just have to make sure I strike the right balance between groomed and mature!

Surreyblah · 30/12/2014 17:20

Linea at house of Fraser have merino wool cardies for v good prices right now in various winter colours, eg magenta, cobalt and raspberry (but called something different!). I ordered a couple of them and some other stuff but it all looks awful and will need to go back, colours all good but my body isn't!

Surreyblah · 30/12/2014 17:22

Generally I have been wearing lots more colour though, and nail polish for the first time since my teens. This thread has helped a lot! Inspiration tips, bargains and links. Even extending to make up and nails! Thanks very much everyone!

NeitherHereOrThere · 30/12/2014 18:38

Not keen on Linea cardigans either - these make me look frumpy although the style is not too dissimilar from my other cardigans. The deep ribbed hem does not help either. A shame as the colours are great.

QueenCardigan · 30/12/2014 20:29

I love linea cardigans-I have 2!

NeitherHereOrThere · 30/12/2014 20:33

I know - I only wear crew neck cardies and I am not sure why I look frumpy in Linea and yet fine in TU/Boden. The Landsend ones are okish on me but then I should have got petite instead of regular.

QueenCardigan · 30/12/2014 20:38

Lands end are the greatest on me either although I have one. I wish I'd gone petite too.

QueenCardigan · 31/12/2014 09:27

this pinner has some good boards with the different style types.

Stokey · 31/12/2014 15:05

Happy New Year winters

I just got this pink cashmere jumper from Uniqlo - a good match for fuschia, I think I may weasr it tonight with glitzy mini skirt. They don't have any left on line but more in the store, they also have it in charcoal and cobalt.

I tried this cobalt coat on too. It's got a slight purple hue but I am quite tempted.

Hope you all have good evenings Xmas Grin

MrPop · 31/12/2014 16:47

MoreSno I have been pondering your boot dilemma and how about biker boots?

Or something like this but not suede I guess?

Happy NY all.

QueenCardigan · 01/01/2015 09:30

Happy new year winters. Let 2015 be full of more colour Smile.

I wore the new navy velvet shoes last night and loved them. For me I think 2015 may be the year of shoes.

fooogle · 02/01/2015 06:50

Happy new year winters!
Glad you got yo wear your shoes queen, what did you wear them with?
I've not bought that many great things recently... Found a grey Isabel marant h&m scarf in charity but think it is not my style...
I'm waiting on a zara sale order including yet another attempt at a biker jacket!
stokey, those uniqlo jumpers are lovely aren't they. I wanted a colbalt boat neck one but stopped self as paranoid i d snag it as it's quite loose knit. Nights out sounds excellent place to wear though!
I did but a chambray denim dress in their sale... Not really winter shade (summer?) but may get away with it?!
