Its been said on here before that small floral prints tend to mute the colours so are not great for winters.

Spots/stripes/large florals/geometrics tend to work better.

carrie74 · 17/12/2014 20:20

Hello All, as I'm sure we all are at the moment, I'm MANIC in the lead up to Xmas, I feel like my head's going to explode with everything I need to remember. Roll on end of term, as that's where most of the stresses lie. HOWEVER, I had a bit of time over breakfast this morning to catch up a bit, and posted a few items to the lips and nails Pin board, Great idea!

I had a big birthday celebration at the weekend with 20 local mum friends, and I'm getting asked more and more for fashion advice, where I got such-and-such etc. One friend described me as the most stylish woman she knows, and IMO she's pretty stylish herself Shock. It's an amazing ego boost, but crikey, PRESSURE!! Wink FWIW, I do care about what I wear, but I really wouldn't say I'm particularly stylish, I generally feel anything but when I go to London for example. But all compliments are amazing, so, y'know, I'll take em! Anyway, what I'm getting around to is how the compliments really ramped up after my colours were done, and I think since then I've been able to see other people's colours. Bit better too (which is helpful when they ask me to go shopping with them!). So, embrace the colour!!

mimiasovitch · 17/12/2014 20:23

Embrace the colour and the compliments Carrie!

mimiasovitch · 17/12/2014 20:30

Oops, clicked send too soon. I wanted to share today's outfit: Black full skirted dress with magenta and dark emerald rose print. Dark emerald cardi, magenta petticoat, cherries in the snow lippie. Red wellies. I was walking the dog on a virtually empty beach. At least I entertained my sister when she saw my dog walking outfit. As if I'd ever consider a tracksuit Shock. I was however wearing a green parka. I won't stick a dog sausage in a nice coat. No-one really saw, its ok.

carrie74 · 17/12/2014 20:37

Mimi LOVE the sound of your outfit: now that to me sounds stylish (vs my uniform of skinnies and a jumper!)

QueenCardigan · 17/12/2014 20:42

carrie that's amazing. Fwiw Ive always thought you were stylish when I've met you. We must go shopping in the new year.

I have to say since having my colours done I haven't really had a huge amount of compliments although people tend to comment that I look glamorous so I guess I must be doing something right. I don't think I do look that glam but I do make an effort with jewellery, lipstick and nail polish.

mimi love your dog walking outfit and v envious of walking on an empty beach. I adore beaches in winter.

So, does anyone have anything Winter related on their Christmas wish list? I need some inspiration as dh has realised that its next week and he wants some ideas. Nothing expensive as I had the bag and shoes for anniversary and I've had a new iPad but he'd like to get me some little bits to open on the day.

fooogle · 17/12/2014 22:42

Hey winters, lipstick boards are v cool. Shall try and add though not v good at pinterest logistics!
Today I have worn what I hoped to be chinese blue vintage jaegar pencil skirt, dark grey uniqlo crew jumper, black tights, black boots and a silver and black belt... Not sure it totally worked but was nice to try.
queen, not sure of Christmas gifts. Bit tough between me and dp at mo so not really hoping for too much... Asked for bobbi brown violet ink eyeliner from my sis. Need a new purse. Wanted a uniqlo royal blue boat neck cashmere but none on line and no time to get to a store in central london (v frustrating!) though maybe they'll be in the sales!

QueenCardigan · 18/12/2014 10:02

foogle who are you on pin as you need inviting to be able to add to the pin board. Am happy to add any of you if you let me know who you are...

SorrelForbes · 18/12/2014 10:20

Gift wise my SiLaw is getting me a black purse from the Osprey outlet store. I love a new shiny purse.

Stokey · 18/12/2014 16:08

Arrgh just lost a post twice on my phone. It said basically, good work Mimia, Foogle & Carrie.
I'm wearing the Rimmel As you want lippy which I think is even brighter than HoC 62.

I'm going out later and wearing a cobalt top that I bought months ago but is very see through. I'll wear it with a navy long-sleeve tee and pleather leggings. Will try and link it but will post first!

Stokey · 18/12/2014 16:11

I'm eyeing up cashmere for sales buys too Fooogle . A fuschia round neck line lightweight jumper in Uniqlo and a cobalt one in John Lewis.

NeitherHereOrThere · 18/12/2014 20:32

Hobbs has a huge sale on with some gorgeous cashmere in winter colours including emerald and cobalt.

fooogle · 19/12/2014 06:37

neither, thanks for hobbs tip off. I'm such a stingey soul though... 39£ in uniqlo is still more than I like to spend Grin! Most of my cashmere has been lucky finds from charity shops. Colbalt or electric blue type thing is what I fancy though.

didireallysaythat · 19/12/2014 07:26

You know it hadn't even occurred to me that you can ask for clothes for presents !! I'm too busy trying to reduce the amount of clothes I have as part of a declutter / capsule wardrobe plan. I'm down to three pairs of trousers, four skirts and three dresses, but I clearly have a problem with vests ! I've culled things tops to white t shirts and five jumpers. Still got too much I think though. I've got five pairs of cooler weather shoes and boots (OK only one pair of shoes..) which is better than the summer selection. The two work suits could do with replacing (>10 years old and starting to look like it!) - any recommendations ?? Probably have to wait until spring as the cars MOT in January is usually the nail in the Christmas credit card coffin !!

fooogle · 19/12/2014 18:04

didi you're impressive doing a capsule. I'm just such an acquirer I stand no chance and collect a lot of maybe good things from my charity rummaging but not sure I am totally discerning vs swayed by bargains!
Today, skinny zara jeans, stripey pink and navy Breton, navy cardi with sequins from banana republic...dirty navy converse and cosy didrikson coat!

didireallysaythat · 19/12/2014 18:48

fooogle capsule is easier for me as I don't give what I'm going to wear a lot of thought (anything for another 2 minutes in bed), plus we get behind doing laundry a lot it seems. I am slightly embarrassed by the number of things I have hanging in the wardrobe. I really don't need 6 long sleeved t shirts, do I ? If everything sort of goes you don't have to turn the light on to choose what you're going to wear which has got to be a good thing, right ?

I would probably fall into the charity shop rummaging but luckily (?) I work at an out of city centre research park, food shop online and hence I never have to go into a real place to go shopping. Actually I do have to take DS1 into town tomorrow and I can't remember the last time I went in (probably Feb when I got my hair cut). I'm hoping everyone else will have finished their shopping - I'd really like just to take the bus in, drop him off and get the next bus back out of there !

SorrelForbes · 19/12/2014 23:10

A new lipstick arrived today. Besame Cherry Red. It's totally gorgeous. A proper Hollywood starlet red and lovely packaging too. I also ordered the 1950s mascara so will try that put tomorrow.

fooogle · 20/12/2014 11:30

sorrel, that looks a good red. I'm trying the Rimmel 01 Kate one when feeling brave. I like it but sometimes feel a bit 'look at me'... Also clashes with my fuschia and navy stripes (same top two days in a row! slovenly ).
Itching to go to tkmaxx but instead stuck at car servicing garage waiting on new expensive tyres... Confused

MrPop · 20/12/2014 16:07

DidI I am impressed with your capsule wardrobe! I have about 20 long sleeved t-shirts.

I quite like dressing from a capsule wardrobe but need to rotate it around a bit - so I need 4 capsule wardrobes - one for each season Grin

I am keen on this jumper - is it chinese blue?? Wish Boden would do free delivery in the sale though, seeing as they do so pretty much all the rest of the time.

Today I was quite pleased with my colour combination - mint green and raspberry.

Carrie a great compliment to be described as stylish.

Mimi I also love the sound of your outfit, particularly for dog walking!

I live in a casual, conservative area and have consequently changed how I dress, deeming some stuff too 'out there' but which I would have worn previously. Maybe I need to change my attitude?

What do you all do?

And - random colours question of the day, which colour do you miss that winters can't wear?

Mine is antique / dusky pink.

MrPop · 20/12/2014 16:12

Seek and ye shall find - G4Y4 is 10% off boden sale plus free delivery. I have ordered the jumper.

fooogle · 21/12/2014 19:42

mrpop mine d be yellow and orange I think?... Like a bright one of either.
Bit nutty here but trying to work out some nice outfits to take away to rellies over Christmas....suddenly realising not sure how to 'style' certain pieces... Esp' my possibly amazing, possibly hideous vintage jaegar black and sequin / beaded long line jacket. Thinkin skinny distressed jeans to offset it?! Hmmmm

SorrelForbes · 22/12/2014 07:49

Treated mysefl to a couple of things in the Reiss sale yesterday. The white shirt I linked to up thrread (but couldn't bring myself to pay 95 for) and a midnight blue jacket whch I'm hoping will be a close enough match against our navy swatch.

QueenCardigan · 22/12/2014 10:25

Nice jacket and shirt sorrell.
foogle your jacket sounds lovely. And yes to jeans to dress it down a bit.
mrpop I live in a conservative casual area too and know what you mean about 'out there' stuff. My tastes are pretty conservative too though so I tend to fit in. But if anyone did wear anything out there it probably would be commented on at the school gates. Not in a negative way but it would stand out. But if you wore out there stuff all of the time then people would cease to notice.
Not sure I miss any colours really. I did use to like dusky blue but I don't especially miss it. I love yellow and orange on other people but have never worn it myself (except some hideous yellow skirt in the 80s) although I would love a winter yellow belt as I think as an accessory colour it goes really well with the blues/greens of our palette.

NeitherHereOrThere · 22/12/2014 17:49

Agree that a pop of winter yellow can look amazing - esp with black and navy.

Before my diagnosis, I used to wear summer colours, off white/cream and beige. Don't miss any of these although I do look at camel/beige coats and think life would be easier if I could wear these.

fooogle · 22/12/2014 19:37

Anyone spotted any good bright accessories? I'm wearing too much black and navy and grey as it's easy. Navy and charcoal are good on me but black not special... Thinking necklaces or easy scarves? I'm feeling bit unbrave as dp said to a dc that he didn't like bright pink...
Tried red ego today. Think I likes it but was quite tentative with it. Is it bit like red velvet lip butter?
I like a bit if out there dressing but I feel braver before I step out the house!
