mimi did you start a lipstick board otherwise I'm happy too?

QueenCardigan · 15/12/2014 14:46

To not too!

mimiasovitch · 15/12/2014 17:55

I haven't yet. I've spent the day playing with my niece and nephew, getting some quality baby time. I do plan on it, but more than one won't do any harm at all.

Stokey · 15/12/2014 18:35

I think Ruby Woo is a more bluey red than Russian Red but is still quite intense. I always apply with a brush and then build up gradually.

Cassis Passion is now on my wish list, lay time I went to town I failed completely to find any v of the lipsticks on my hit list.

I'm very boring today in black skinnies, grey long sleeve tee and charcoal cardie with white fair isle pattern. Oh and white and black checked giant scarf. I sometimes feel like I wear less colour since having my colours done. I seem to wear a lot of black and grey at present.

QueenCardigan · 15/12/2014 21:23

lip and nail pin board here. I've invited sorrell to pin and eoukdnt like to invite the rest of you regulars but I'm note sure who you are on pin. Either say on here or pm me.

mimiasovitch · 15/12/2014 21:51

Ok. So I started a pinboard here. Any suggestions will be added. It didn't take too long, but I only added what I could remember and what I could see on this thread. I hope to have lots more to add to it. At least then I'll remember what I'm shopping for.

mimiasovitch · 15/12/2014 21:54

Ah - Came back here and saw your post Queen. Have followed you.

QueenCardigan · 15/12/2014 22:23

Sorry mimi. Great board you've got though. A better memory than me. I've only added my own lipsticks so far onto mine.

didireallysaythat · 15/12/2014 22:26

Loving the lipsticks boards queen and Mimi. It's really interesting to see the shades on people too, as Russian red and red velvet ste completely unrecognisable compared to how they look on me. If I pluck up the courage I'll take photos and post them for suggestions as I'm coming to the slow realisation that what's good for one winter maybe not be great on another (and I don't know what kind of winter I am...)

SorrelForbes · 15/12/2014 22:42

Loving the boards and I have already contributed.

didireallysaythat I'm not brave enough to post pics of me but I've sent you a link to a pic of me wearing the Lime Crime in Red velvet.

didireallysaythat · 15/12/2014 22:55

I'm going to pluck up the courage (but not tonight!) and add photos of shades actually on me. When tipping out my bag looming for keys earlier I was slightly frightened to discover how many lipsticks I've bought to replace the lost pboneses. I think I might be obsessed....

mimiasovitch · 15/12/2014 22:57

I think I could do some pics of my lipsticks on me. Not selfies though - I without fail look horrendous in all of them.

NeitherHereOrThere · 16/12/2014 07:23

didI - what are your double starred colours? Might be able to work out what kind of winter you are?

I'm a sultry winter so the darker lipsticks work well on me. I like the effect winter lipsticks have on my eyes when I apply these and that's how I know its a good one on me.

Have just started a lippy board and will work on it later today.

didireallysaythat · 16/12/2014 08:37

neither that's very kind of you.

100%** royal blue, lobelia, fushia, carmine, ice hyacinth
75%** light grey, royal purple, navy, mole, raspberry, lagoon blue, ice lavender

I can't see the ratings myself - the ice colours make me look ill I think. And I can't do purple as my mother wears purple almost exclusively. Black with royal or electric blue is where I feel safe !

NeitherHereOrThere · 16/12/2014 08:48

Looks like you could be a jewel winter.

When were you diagnosed?

didireallysaythat · 16/12/2014 08:57

I had my colours done (plus makeup) in January this year. Didn't get to my style day until a few months ago. I think my consultant said she didn't categorise the seasons so I've been trying to determine what the differences are - and failing ! If it weren't for the fact I'd have to take time off work (and money!) I think I'd go back and ask her to go through my ratings again so I can see why some are better than others... I'm just not colour confident. I'm painting our house white at the moment as it seems like a safe option....

MrPop · 16/12/2014 10:05

DidI I have read (on here probably!) that the consultant will go over it again (for free I assume) if you didn't get it first time.

In a way I agree with the consultant about not categorizing the winters as all the colours in the palette are supposed to suit us, just some better than others, so it is not a good idea IMO to restrict yourself to your ** colours only.

I did have a giggle at the fact your mum wears only purple putting you off wearing it!

I am like Stokey though in that I think I wear less colour since being 'diagnosed'.

Today I am wearing grey hush harems (more of a mole colour than grey actually), navy top with stars on and uniqlo damson cardigan (which has a hole in the armpit, boo hiss).

NeitherHereOrThere · 16/12/2014 10:18

I would go back to your consultant. A diagnosis is useless if you are unsure what to do with it. It can take time for some people but it sounds like you need a bit of help.

Categories are not that important but it does help me plan purchases and/or narrow down choices - for example if there is a gap in my wardrobe or when buying something expensive e,g coat.

didireallysaythat · 16/12/2014 10:20

Thanks mrpop - the colours, OK colour = black, that I migrate to are not my 100% ** ones which I could never see myself in top to toe.

My consultant and I are very different people - I know she's an autumn but her colour choices to me clashed with each other, rather than working. That said when she deconstructed her look I could see that she looked far better with the buckled heels, scarf, lipstick, earrings etc.

Some of this us due to my colour sound synthethesia (spelling?) - yellow is b, blue is e, green g, so I can only put together colours that "sound" concordant if you get what I mean (I am so relieved that orange isn't there as its a headache noise for me - flying with easy jet is awful for me). And then purple - it has no pitch for me but it is my mother !!

I think I'll drop my consultant an email and ask her if she'll review my winter colours again. It's not so much the money (obviously free would be nice but it should only take an hour right? - I know I have her hourly rate somewhere) it's more the time. I can't get my haircut until the new holiday calendar starts as I've run out of days and my hair dresser doesn't work weekends any more.... From my style day I should be booking a hair cut every 6 weeks. It was last cut in February !?

NeitherHereOrThere · 16/12/2014 11:56

It should be done for free - why not explain to her that you are struggling with your colours and would like her to quickly run through these with you to help you understand etc knowing that as a HOC consultant she would want you to feel good etc.

You need to put yourself first from time to time so try and make time Smile

NeitherHereOrThere · 16/12/2014 11:59

I get what you mean about hating loud and clashing colours. I am a bit the same - I like things to match and struggle with some of the brighter colours e.g shocking pink (until I hit on the idea that I can restrict these to nail polish and accessories). I was so relieved to be diagnosed as a winter as it meant I could carry on wearing blacks and greys but it has helped me look at including colours I had never considered before such as cobalt, chinese blue, royal purple and damson.

Stokey · 16/12/2014 16:21

Thanks so much for those lippy boards Mimia and QueenC

I have bought the Pudgy peony Clinique stick for DM & myself, the Cassis Passion for DM but they only had one so bought myself the Collection Prohibition instead as they looked the same colour on my hand. I also bought the Rimmel As You want and a Barry M plum.

And to try and inject a bit more colour in my life, I got this TopShop red scarf and hat.

Saw a gorgeous cobalt coat in Jaeger. It's on sale but still pricey. Also not really my style - I always wear a bra - but is this a Chinese blue top?

QueenCardigan · 16/12/2014 17:10

That top's lovely stokey. I find Chinese/lagoon blue difficult to find as they're often too turquoise-y. I think it's one of those colours you just have to buy to try and can't always work out from a computer screen. I often find it helpful to enlarge the image and then see if it tones in with your swatches.

I wouldn't say I wear more colour now but I deginitely wear brighter colours. I wore mainly muted and soft colours beforehand and often creams instead of true white. I've always loved grey but my new favourite since having my colours done is navy. But even if I wear a grey or navy top without a cardi I need some colour in the form of nails, jewellery or bag. I can totally see that I need that 'brightness'. The only time I may not inject brightness is nights out when I sometimes wear just black (although I usually have bright nails) as sometimes it just feels right and colours don't seem to feel as grown up/sophisticated as black.

mimiasovitch · 16/12/2014 17:57

I've always worn a lot of colour, but I tend to solids a bit more now, whilst before I was all about a print. I really have no idea why that changed. Saying that, I have high hopes for a floral dress for christmas, which is perfect colourwise and for a romantic.

didireallysaythat · 16/12/2014 18:19

I'm getting that brighter colours are better than washed out ones. I can't see my "starred" ones over others with lower scores so I'm ad libbing. Alas bright nail varnish isn't an option so I make up for it with my watch...
