Remember our chats??

Our SOTD (scent of the day)?

Is there a thread I've missed Shock

If not, lets take it up here :)

SOTD an unknown sample from my perfume drawer, woodsy and irisy, am baffled but enjoying it!

Have you heard about the Traveling Perfume Sample Box? It is a great idea and a great way to offset the cost of sampling.

I have a bunch of Parfumerie Generale samples. Would anyone be interested in them... Perhaps agreeing to circulate them if there are more than on takers. You are allowed to keep what you love and can add samples of your own. Is this allowed in the UK?

FrugalFashionista · 29/11/2014 09:59

Sorry about the accidental double post. For some reason my iPad won't paste links since the latest updates. Writing this on my iPhone - I can paste and embed links but the 'Done' is partially floating over the 'Post' button so it's really hard to avoid hitting it

niminypiminy · 29/11/2014 10:13

I read about that idea on Bois de Jasmin too - I'd like to join in if we do it. I've got quite a few samples I don't like but others might. It would be a really good way of swapping. I like the idea too of adding your notes on the perfumes to the box as you go so that we collectively build up our expertise.

FrugalFashionista · 29/11/2014 10:18

Another idea: would you be interested in circulating raw materials? Useful for learning notes? If I can figure out small enough containers, I could share some from my treasure trove.

canny1234 · 29/11/2014 10:42

Yes,a brilliant idea for both raw materials and samples.I have a like rate of about 1 in 10 samples and tend to send extra samples with a swop and still have loads left. Its much better if we can recirculate and save money this way though.
Sotd is rather boringly but alluringly Rose Perfection to tackle the huge washing pile.

ToysRLuv · 29/11/2014 13:20

I'm in, frugal! I loved it when the violets were doing their round. Should just make sure you get some samples circulating back to you, even though we can't send anything to Italy? If you're going up north for Christmas, I can send you stuff from there.

Sotd: molinard violette.

shins · 29/11/2014 16:30

Toys, you haven't received my decants? I posted them on Weds evening, getting a bit worried now.

ToysRLuv · 29/11/2014 17:25

No, shins. It could take a long time, though. Took a couple of weeks with leedy's thing (god knows where they had been in between), so I wouldn't panic just yet.

ToysRLuv · 01/12/2014 12:49

Shins, yoir package came today! Thank you so much! The surprise was wonderful!! Can't wait to dip in.. Thanks again!!!!

OneLittleLady · 01/12/2014 13:01

to who asked for the yatagan split, i haven't forgotten but it will be after christmas as I just don't have time right now as I'm int he run up to exams etc for uni. I wont forget though

I found a Les Notes de Lanvin box set in TkMaxx, Orange and Amber, tis lovely though I have since found out it was produced especially for hotels etc. It's not even listed on fragrantica which is a shame, i'd love to know more about what notes are in it

shins · 01/12/2014 13:12

Oh I'm delighted Toys, phew! My daughter had the Lipstick Rose sample but she really wouldn't miss it as she has lots, it's going somewhere where it's truly loved! I can't stand it myself so one woman's trash etc Grin

canny1234 · 01/12/2014 14:10

Sotd is Eau d'Hadrien from Olfactory sprayed on top of the remains of Lipstick Rose.Smells not unlike Hermes Pamplemousse Rose.Ninfea still hasn't arrived from Italy.
There is a new swop/decant thread on Fragantica for the Uk'ers if anyone is interested!

FrugalFashionista · 01/12/2014 14:50

Wore Vega in the morning, perhaps my favorite perfume at the moment. My vintage Mitsouko extrait arrived at lunchtime. It's honeyed and sonorous, deeply comforting, reminds me of my childhood. Very beautiful packaging too.

shins · 01/12/2014 15:29

SOTD: Mon Parfum by Paloma Picasso, doused liberally on a lunchtime visit to Boots. I love it, it smells gorgeously luxurious and am considering getting a FB as it’s not so expensive. I’m beginning to think my taste in perfume is downright vulgar; I almost wore Portrait of a Lady to a wedding at the weekend but stopped myself when I realised I’d be spending several hours in a car with some close family members and I didn’t want to kill them! I do love loud 80s-style perfumes though, it must have something to do with childhood memories. I wonder if 1990s kids will one day hanker after boring ozonic airy perfumes that remind them of their mum’s L’eau d’Issey?

Cool stickers!

Shins: I am loving the dry-down of Cuir D'Iris. Like Bvlagri Black with some cardamom. Whenever there is cardamom in the mix I am pretty much guaranteed to love it.. Rien, which I had on the other arm is gone, but I liked it while I could smell it. Tomorrow will have a hard choice again.. I'm saving the Lipstick Rose for special occasions..

niminypiminy · 01/12/2014 20:44

SOTD was Heeley Esprit du Tigre: tiger balm in perfume form. Actually much better than that sounds, mint, camphor, but no wintergreen. Goodness knows who would want a FB of this, but it was strangely likeable, in a sort of wake-you-up-on-a-grey-Monday-morning kind of a way. And one tiny little drop lasted all day.

leedy · 02/12/2014 11:27

SOTD: Miller Harris Figue Amere, which is a lovely cosy figgy smell. Slightly salty and herbal, unlike some of the other fig fragrances I've tried.

canny1234 · 02/12/2014 13:37

Toys thank you very much for all those decant vials.I've just ordered some on eBay but they take so long to arrive.

SOTD is Profumum Roma's Ninfea which is a very rich green ( some people pick up Dill in this) powdery Violet/Rose - its adorable.Shall I send you your Ninfea decant in the cute glass rollerball?

Olfactory do you still want a decant of the Jo Malone Dark Amber and Ginger lily?

ToysRLuv · 02/12/2014 13:56

You read my mind, canny! :) sotd: Cuir de Russie (thanks shins!). Lovely smoith, flowery leather. A bit at odds with the decluttering task I've taken on today.

Termagant · 02/12/2014 16:04

Hello all,

I love perfume but only ever buy full bottles so my sotd would get dull quickly!

Really fancy getting into this samples lark so will get ordering some from the sites mentioned.

Current wardrobe is Stella, pomegranate noir, Tom ford noir de noir, newest is le labo iris 39 and my all time favourite jicky.

Based on the above what would you recommend I try next? Enable me please!

FrugalFashionista · 02/12/2014 18:00

Term all of those are really great. You could further explore patchouli roses and oud roses and irises. Heeley's Hippie Rose, Malle's Iris Poudre and Portrait of a Lady, 28 La Pausa and 1932 at Chanel, Hermes Hiris, CdG Zagorsk, By Kilian Prelude to Love. Jicky is pretty special, so anything animalic or with civet might work for you (Bal a Versailles?). An easy way to get deeper is to order samples from Les Senteurs or Surrender to Chance, or just go sampling in one of the better perfume stores.

FrugalFashionista · 02/12/2014 18:01

SOTD vintage Mitsouko.

Termagant · 02/12/2014 20:39

FrugalF

Thanks for the ideas, loads there I haven't heard of or smelled. You're spot on that a dirty floral is a favourite! I'll do some ordering and report back.

leedy · 03/12/2014 11:47

SOTD: Etat Libre d'Orange's Like This. Very autumnal and cosy.

I now really want to try Jicky after reading the description, it sounds kind of bonkers. Also would be cool to actually smell of the nineteenth century....

canny1234 · 03/12/2014 12:58

Juliette has a gun Mad Madam is on sale at Tk Maxx online.I would love to try it but I'm not prepared to blind buy it,as the reviews sound a bit scary.

Toys I've posted your mini perfume.

Sotd is invigorating Eau d'Hadrien worn specifically for the gym that I never got to ( instead drank coffee with a friend).I also really want to try Jicky.
