Remember our chats??

Our SOTD (scent of the day)?

Is there a thread I've missed Shock

If not, lets take it up here :)

SOTD an unknown sample from my perfume drawer, woodsy and irisy, am baffled but enjoying it!

OP posts:

SOTD: Shay & Blue Blood Orange. Lovely spicy orange-peely scent, though unfortunately doesn't last very long.

FrugalFashionista · 27/11/2014 10:42

Canny I have just received a parcel from Parfumaria!
Thanks FlowersFlowersFlowers
Lady Rose Lion on my wrist now...

Seriouslyffs · 27/11/2014 10:54

Hello nice people!
I've had about 5 perfumes in my life and am now almost scent free (not by choice, I've run out of everything except EDT Obsession which isn't suitable for daily wear and it's nearly Christmas Wink
If I run through some favourites can you point me in the right direction?
Started off with Monoprix eau fraiche, the green one which I still occasionally buy- very simple and fr

Seriouslyffs · 27/11/2014 11:36

Sorry- my phone keeps sticking. The green Monoprix eau Fraiche was very simple and suitable for a teenager. In my 20s I wore Clarins eau Dynamisante and Chanel No 5, still occasionally buy the Clarins. Mil bought me some eau d'Hadrien when I had DD1- really loved it and saved it for best- it went off within the year and smelt of pencil sharpenings :(
I also like Lancôme Ô and Dior eau svelte. DD has space NK Laughter which I love and I asked a woman what she was wearing the other and want to smell it again before I invest in it- Chanel 1932.
Fab thread Smile

Sotd is L'artisan Parfumeur Poivre Piquant.I find this a little one-dimensional on its own.Does anyone layer this?I've tried with Drole de Rose but don't like the combination.

Seriously, Eau d'hadrien can be bought from AllBeauty in small bottles for a very reasonable price.Live In love by Oscar de la renta is a green/floral fresh really easy to wear perfume that is very inexpensive from All beauty as well.

Brilliant Frugal,i'm so glad its arrived.

Hello! I've just been to Boots where there's a 1200 points for £50 promotion today and, in addition to getting gifts and stocking up on some essentials for myself, I went and splurged on a bottle of Ysatis. It's not one of the scents I've been eyeballing over the past few weeks... if Boots sold L'Heure Bleu I would have bought that... but I gave it a sniff and decided I had to have it. All they have is EDT so I don't know how long it will last. I like really strong florals like this. I guess it's a bit similar to White Diamonds.

For gifts for two girlfriends I got: A gift box of five Versace fragrances (I don't know what she likes but she's a pretty bold and brassy woman in her forties and I figure some of them ought to appeal to her) and for the other girl I got two Fragrance Library scents - Gin and Tonic and Vanilla Ice Cream. She's young and a bit quirky and I think she might enjoy one or both of them.

canny1234 · 27/11/2014 16:08

I've fallen in love with Piguet's Rose Perfection. It smells of the everlasting balmy summer days of my childhood raiding the neighbours gardens for scented rose petals with my sisters.Mushing them up in a sand castle bucket and pouring the resultant boggy sludgy solution into bottles for perfume. This of course is our ideal pure rose smell of that time which we could never replicate. Now of course I want a bottleSmile.

niminypiminy · 27/11/2014 16:30

Canny that sounds such a wonderful olfactory memory.

SOTD is Grossmith Shem-el-Nessim, from a sample I'm ekeing out. It's a makes me think of Après L'Ondee reimagined as an oriental - the kind of thing I imagine the princesses in the Arabian Nights wearing. So beautiful! And though it's a bit of an evening dress perfume, it felt right today when it is grey and dreary and I am dog-tired. A dream of a perfume.

Seriouslyffs · 27/11/2014 16:48

Thanks canny
That's a very good Boots offer Fabulassie, can't see it on the website, is it just today?

Fabulassie · 27/11/2014 17:00

Yes, and it's only in store.

FrugalFashionista · 27/11/2014 18:15

Lady Rose Lion is inspired by vintage chypres, so for the fun of it I tested it with a few that I have at hand. Fruity chypres are not really my territory.
So I am totally out of my depth here...

Lady Rose Lion sings with the bright voice of a schoolgirl.

Vintage Mitsy extrait (my last almost dried-up drop) purrs an octave or two lower and has an intoxicating crisp but honeyed timbre and some deep bass - I get lots of woody notes that I love and that give this juice a huge amount of attitude and edge. (Addictive: where can I get more of this?)

The opening of Lady Rose Lion also reminds me of Femme by Rochas.
My memories of Femme are soft, curvy and voluptuous.
But Femme from my vial is different: complex and sweet and crisp all at the same time, rounded but not dominated by roundness.

Coty's Chypre on my left forearm has a dark, herby edge that is a totally different tune. It has an energetic masculine vibe that I love.

Nine hours later: they all smell pretty much the same.

niminypiminy · 27/11/2014 18:18

Frugal where did you get Coty's Chypre from? That's one that I would love to smell, along with L'Origan.

FrugalFashionista · 27/11/2014 20:09

Mine is from the Perfumed Court, several years ago, a tiny dab vial.
L'Osmotheque in Versailles has amazing vintage treasures of really many old classics. Visiting them or going to their stand in perfume fairs (Pitti, Esxence) means you'll get to smell incredible treasures. I got a save the date to the latter today and I'm considering going to Milan if I'm in Europe in the spring. The fairs are a lovely place to sample exquisite raw materials...

Housewife2010 · 27/11/2014 20:31

What do you think of Miller Harris L'air de Rien? I'm wearing a sample today & I rather like it. Cult Beauty describes it as "waywardly elegant" which I aspire to, but I've also seen some very hideous descriptions involving dubious hygiene & horses! Elegant or pants? What do you think?

ToysRLuv · 27/11/2014 21:24

BTW, I have got a mini (around 5 ml) of Rochas Femme (vintage early 1990's) in Scandi. I'm going up there again this Christmas, so can take it back with me if anyone's interested..

I'm afraid I haven't really hit the classics stage in my perfume connoisseurship yet. The only classics I like are Shalimar, Chanel n 19 & Cristalle EDP, Vent Vert, Diorella, Violetta di Parma, L'Heure Bleue, and L'Air du Temps.

FrugalFashionista · 28/11/2014 10:48

Hi Toys I still have some Femme but will let you know if I need more. I think vintage Mitsouko is more my style though - I found a 7.5 ml bottle of 1980s extrait on eBay.it (from a local seller - couldn't resist!) so that should do for now. Italy is good for chypres - smelled a classic one on someone the school run today. They are an extinct species in most other places.

Wearing The Sexiest Scent from Tuesdays. I'm tallish and angular,s o I crave warmth and softness and wear sweet gourmands and heavy orientals and dense leathers really well. This is no exception - it melds with my skin and is a great relatively unobtrusive choice. A bit linear, so no story to tell, but this type of perfume works well when I want to have a tiny bit of sweetness and comfort.

I love Shem-el-Nessim...

Seriously eaux de cologne are your home base! You should also try Acqua di Parma (the basic one), Annick Goutal's Eau du Sud. I love 1932 and have a mini of it - it's expensive but would mean branching out a bit for you towards sensual jasmines so I heartily recommend that you put it on your Christmas list. It's a Chanel boutique perfume, available in bigger department stores and Chanel boutiques (I'm considering a parfum concentration when my mini runs out). Ysatis is a bit like it but not the same. If you are feeling adventurous, order a jasmine sampler from Surrender to Chance to further explore the note.

noddyholder · 28/11/2014 11:19

I wear outremer eau de toilettes day to day as only £12 and smell gorgeous Rose and vetiver really good

leedy · 28/11/2014 11:56

I love L'Air du Rien, and treated myself to a FB recently after lashing through a couple of samples. And yes, I too have heard references to, eg, tramps' crotches.... On me, it's not at all crotchy :), just a lovely dusty slightly musky woody smell.

SOTD: sample of Heeley's Sel Marin. Bit too slap in the face with the ocean waves initially (it's VERY salty at first), but it's lovely now.

canny1234 · 28/11/2014 12:15

I love Sel Marin in the summer Leedy.I took a sample on my half term holiday recently and it was stunning in the heat.)Likewise Pamplemousse Rose which now feels too bracing in cooler weather.

Frugal those perfume fairs sound wonderful.I don't think there are equivalent occasions here sad to say.
Sotd is again Piguets Rose Perfection. In fact I'm seriously thinking about buying a big bottle of this which is a real rarity for me.This and Lipstick Rose I adore. The trouble is I need about 4 sprays each time I wear these and my 10 ml travel size of Lipstick Rose is rapidly going down.

Has anyone bought from FragranceX UK recently? They seem to have several good deals on at the moment and I would be interested in any reviews.

Fabulassie · 28/11/2014 13:30

SOTD is Anais Anais. I kinda wanted to wear something else but I wanted to play it safe with something feminine for a lunch date I had.

Carpaccio · 28/11/2014 13:36

SOTD: Bvlgari - Mon Jasmin Noir. I found this sample in the bottom of my small bag of samples. It's very nice, especially as a winter perfume.
It might go on the Christmas wishlist :)

Olfactory thank you I have your eau d'hadrien. It smells as lovely on now as it used to.I love the smell of the Cypress plus citrus.I used to wear this all year round in my 20's

ToysRLuv · 28/11/2014 16:28

SOTD: Lolita Lempicka. Liquorice oriental. Good, but not fantastic.

My most used scents leading up to the point when I got completely obsessed with perfumes (a few years ago now) have been Calvin Klein Truth, The Body Shop Tobacco Flower, Clinique Simple and Alexander McQueen Kingdom. Truth and Tobacco Flower always remind me of being young and living at home, whereas Simply and Kingdom remind me of being a student in my twenties.
