What stops you showering every day?

I hate showering!

I find any excuse to avoid showering as soon as I get up. Things like I'm doing housework or gardening and I'll shower later are my usual excuses.

I'm not sure what would make me want to shower first thing, I just like getting on with my day.

I'm not a public health hazard, I do wash - just can't be arsed to shower every day.

I need a shower in the morning to properly wake up and get the day started.

Greengardenpixie · 01/10/2014 18:54

I cant be bothered to do that. I do wash myself daily though. Underarms, hands, face and brush my teeth. I shower maybe every couple of days.

PinkSparklyElephant · 01/10/2014 18:59

Nothing stops me showering at least once a day! The only time I can remember not showering is when I had my gallbladder out and was told to keep the dressings dry for 48 hours. I was going mad by the time I was allowed to have a shower!

pinkfrocks · 01/10/2014 19:00

what about the rest of your body though?

pinkfrocks · 01/10/2014 19:00

That was for GGP.

Hakluyt · 01/10/2014 19:01

What would stop me showering every day? No water. Nothing else.

Greengardenpixie · 01/10/2014 22:07

What about the rest of my body? I shower every couple of days. Its not like im saying i go without washing for weeks. There is no need to shower everyday. Its not actually good for your skin.

peasandlove · 02/10/2014 09:26

If I was at a festival camping, in Africa on safari or somewhere with a water shortage. Otherwise I shower in the morning wash hair etc and a quick one before bed. Each to their own. I can tell when people don't shower regularly

pinkfrocks · 02/10/2014 09:37

Not to put too fine a point on it GGP but what about your nether regions? I can't imagine not washing daily.

Greengardenpixie · 02/10/2014 09:43

Well, im not that stinky!!! If i felt that i was smelly down below..i would wash myself!!
I cant tell who showers daily and who doesnt! I have a good sense of smell believe me!

What did people do years ago anway????
I agree, each to their own. I dont find the need to shower myself twice a day. Every other day suits me fine.

frogmore6 · 02/10/2014 10:14

A woman who does not shower every day stinks (surely)! Then there is the issue of intimate areas-
Shower (twice a day) always, it's not that hard.

Greengardenpixie · 02/10/2014 10:52

well maybe you stink but i dont!

peasandlove · 02/10/2014 11:04

Heh Grin ok ok we believe you

Oakmaiden · 02/10/2014 11:11

How do you know? Really? How can you be sure that the person you know doesn't shower daily, because you can smell them, in fact doesn't shower more than once a week. And the person you can't smell, so you assume they shower every day, might only shower every other.

You don't actually know. You just assume.

whataloadofoldshit · 02/10/2014 12:12

Your fanny will be fishy if you wash it every 48hrs I can assure you.

whataloadofoldshit · 02/10/2014 12:12

Apologies to people eating their lunch.

SofaCanary · 02/10/2014 12:18

Yeah, I might have to give my tuna sarnie a miss...or maybe a shower.

Coughle · 02/10/2014 12:23

Yet another revelation from mumsnet... Not only do I have grubby sheets and a mucky toilet, I now apparently have a fishy fanny....

I just can't get that worked up about it. I think my standards of hygiene are dangerously low. I blame the kids.

NorbertDentressangle · 02/10/2014 12:25

The only times I can recall not having a shower in the morning are:

  • if I've been too ill to physically get out of bed or stand up
  • when my ankle was in plaster (but still managed a strip wash or a bath by dangling my leg over the side!)
  • 2 occasions when camping and the shower was too unpleasant to use (but used copious baby wipes)
Pandsbear · 02/10/2014 12:41

I do hope all of you (& your families) who shower multiple times per day are on a water meter Grin

Greengardenpixie · 02/10/2014 12:43

Well apart from getting personal with my dh..who the hell would be that close to me to smell a fishy fanny??? I have never smelt anyones fishy fanny!! Have you?

Greengardenpixie · 02/10/2014 12:44

well clearly you have...unless you are talking purely about yours.

Greengardenpixie · 02/10/2014 12:48

..oh and shock horror...i give my children a bath or shower on a Sunday like i did when i was a kid. Is that neglect??? FFS! [ of course, not when they have been mucking around in outside or something like that that they truly need it]

Greengardenpixie · 02/10/2014 12:49

I mean i would give them it more often if they were out playing and were more dirty.

pinkfrocks · 02/10/2014 13:05

How old are you children GGP?

I have in the past worked closely with children and believe me, it's possible to tell which children are bathed often ( ie daily or every other day) and less often.

When I was at primary school I had a friend who had a 'Sunday bath' and even then my own parents thought that was beyond the pale- and this was in the days when very few people had showers at home, so it was bath or nothing.

It might surprise you but most of us can't smell our own smells! That's why people who have pets like cats and dogs can't smell them in their own houses but visitors can. (I have dog owning friends who ask me to do the 'sniff test' when I visit because they know they get used to the smells.)
