What stops you showering every day?

I hate showering!

I find any excuse to avoid showering as soon as I get up. Things like I'm doing housework or gardening and I'll shower later are my usual excuses.

I'm not sure what would make me want to shower first thing, I just like getting on with my day.

I'm not a public health hazard, I do wash - just can't be arsed to shower every day.

As a child our bath day was Sunday..and it was weekly. We always washed our hands and face and brushed our teeth daily. I dont see anything wrong with that unless children are really dirty.

Muskey · 03/10/2014 20:43

My niece taking all the hot water

SofaCanary · 03/10/2014 20:43

OMG, you'll get them crying fishy flaps again! Grin

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 20:44

lol... i know...or is it bacterial vagenoisis!!!! lets just not go there..i cant take it.

AnathemaIsANiceNameForAGirl · 03/10/2014 20:47

I agree GreenGardenPixie. Don't want to get involved but wanted to show support Grin

This thread is devolving into schoolyard silliness - and quite offensive to suggest a poster's children are neglected, ffs.

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 20:49

Thank you Anathema..feel i have been on my own for so long..Thank you so much (grin)

pinkfrocks · 03/10/2014 20:52

It's too cold to have a proper wash? Are you in the Arctic? It's been the warmest autumn for years. I know this is personal but don't you feel grubby below the belt without a daily wash?
Just because you had a weekly bath as a child doesn't mean you need copy this with your children- does it? Around 1962 one of my then primary school friends had a weekly bath- both her parents were teachers- and even then my parents thought that was appalling.

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 21:01

Really???? Everyone i knew grew up like that!
No, i dont. I wipe my arse when i pee or shit. I make sure i clean properly.

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 21:05

Look, each to their own. I love my children, take good care of them, feed them, clothe them, teach them. They are beautiful children. They dont smell. They get washed the same as me. They change their underwear daily. what the hell is the problem...and why have you such a problem with that? ~What age are you? You clearly are a different generation to me.
Im fed up justifying myself. Im not posting anymore as ive said everything i am going to say so i stick by what i have said.

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 21:07

Oh and before i finish..im not annoyed at anyone..i just have nothing left to talk about.

girlygeekette · 03/10/2014 21:11

Nothing. Shower twice a day

Saurus72 · 03/10/2014 21:15

I can smell people who don't shower every day. It takes a couple of minutes if you don't wash your hair, and there is really no alternative if you don't want to smell.

frogmore6 · 03/10/2014 21:34

And another point- the only reason you don't notice bad smell on the other person/s- is because you yourself smell bad. Oh dear!

Now I'm off to shower - Woosah!woosah!woosah!

WandaDoff · 03/10/2014 21:51

ODFOD Hmm

Are you 7 years old frogmore?

pinkfrocks · 03/10/2014 21:57

That's what's so odd GGP- we are a different generation- am lots older than you!- but you seem to be behaving like a much older generation when a weekly bath for kids on a Sunday was the norm.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 03/10/2014 22:05

Magpie getting up earlier would be great and easy if we weren't both up until 1/2am doing the uni work we can't do in the evenings because we're looking after DD. I'd rather have a good night's sleep and a good wash in the morning thanks.

frogmore6 · 03/10/2014 22:29

WandaDoff - No I am 37 and unlike you I do not tell people (who I have never met) to 'fuck off oh dear'.
I do however, love my showers which I complete by walking through a Tornado body drier to kill off bacteria. Haha!
I mean, I will like- in high school?

Beautifullymixed · 03/10/2014 22:41

As usual, I'm flabbergasted by some folks hygiene Shock
I work with kids as well, and can definitely tell who has been washed/showered that morning and who hasn't. And the smell of stale, unwashed feet when changing for PE Shock

I can't believe some women will leave the house in the morning without washing their fanjo. That for me is grim, as I'm a morning showerer without fail. As for every other day, words fail me.

I'm glad my two young adult dd were taught proper hygiene. One can only hope that the infrequent fanny washers up their cleanliness while on their period. Grim and lazy.

treaclesoda · 03/10/2014 22:50

I've been resisting the urge to post on this thread because these threads always descend into insults of the 'your kids are neglected' and 'you're a selfish disgrace, think of the environment' type.

But, I just wanted to add a couple of things. I almost always shower daily, but it's not always at the same time of day. If I get up in the morning and know I won't be showering until later (eg going to the gym, have a load of housework to do) I have a wash with soap and a flannel. Now, someone is inevitably going to now say 'oh, you stink but you just don't know it' but if that is the case how come there are times when I know that I do smell bad, and I can smell it? For example, I could have a shower in the morning and then, for whatever reason, find that I get hot, and by the late afternoon I know that I don't smell good, so I perhaps end up having another quick shower. Based on this, I'm pretty sure that if I smelt bad on the days that I only have a wash in the morning rather than a shower, I would notice. Also, I'm legendary amongst my friends and family for having a super sensitive sense of smell.

The other thing is that I think a lot of it perception. My PIL don't have a shower and they are very old fashioned in their ways and don't believe in daily baths. They probably bath weekly, with thorough washes in between. Their house is spotless, gleaming and disinfected, and they both smell clean and fresh at all times. My sister has a daily shower but a dirty house and frankly she often doesn't smell that great. The people on this thread saying that they definitely know when someone else hasn't showered that day would get a suprise if they stood between my MIL and my sister and were asked to identify which one hadn't showered that morning.

whataloadofoldshit · 04/10/2014 01:13

I don't get the point of a flannel wash or a 'proper wash' where you was your bits. You might aswell go in the shower. It can take about 5 mins max to jump in the shower, pop some shower gel in and get put. The kids only need a few inches of water every night - it's not hard. It's laziness IMO.

whataloadofoldshit · 04/10/2014 01:14

Fucking iOS 8 - fuck off!!!

I shower every other day generally but depends on when I've exercised. I know when I smell, like after a workout because I can smell myself sweating
If I showered the night before and I'm having a lazy day, I won't shower again

JavaSparrow · 04/10/2014 19:42

I shower every morning unless I am incredibly hungover ill and having a duvet day and even then I'll normally shower before bed.
I don't care what others do. I love showering and the idea of a 3min shower is insane to me, 10 mins minimum.

People like me can still smell though thanks to damp house making clothes a bit musty. I love my tumble dryer.
BTW what with my long showers and tumble dryer use, I am ashamed of my environmental footprint....but no car and no money for flights means it probably balances out. Hmm
