What stops you showering every day?

I hate showering!

I find any excuse to avoid showering as soon as I get up. Things like I'm doing housework or gardening and I'll shower later are my usual excuses.

I'm not sure what would make me want to shower first thing, I just like getting on with my day.

I'm not a public health hazard, I do wash - just can't be arsed to shower every day.

I shower every morning, and often in the evenings too - and the only time I can remember not doing this, was post-surgery last year, when I couldn't get my dressing wet.

weyayechickenpie · 01/10/2014 13:05

Well I dont have a shower but miss it I used to spend ages in there. I feel squeeky clean when ive had a shower. I have a mini bath in the morning and then a massive bath at night if I can be arsed.

Naicecuppatea · 01/10/2014 13:08

I wouldn't want to put on my clean clothes if I wasn't feeling clean and the same applies to getting into my bed at night, in fact I wouldn't be able to go to sleep if I didn't have a shower or bath before bed. I obviously don't always shower twice a day but usually just at night, sometimes in the morning as well if time permits.

My FIL hardly ever washes and absolutely whiffs - it is so sad and unpleasant for everyone else.

Petal02 · 01/10/2014 13:09

I should add that I wouldn't want to have any, er, "quality time" with DH unless I know I'm fresh and clean.

Goldenlab · 01/10/2014 13:13

Bath and hair wash every night before bed. Couldn't bear to go to bed without one because I'd smell of horses and horse manure! I put my damp hair into plaits and just brush it out in the morning.

carrie74 · 01/10/2014 13:18

I don't feel right if I haven't showered. I have to leave the house tomorrow at 5:30 to catch a flight, so I'm already factoring in the time required to have a shower before we leave in the morning.

The only times I don't shower straight after getting out of bed are if I'm exercising that morning, when I will shower when I get home.

Momagain1 · 01/10/2014 13:21

If I don't shower I have a proper wash with a clean flannel.

I think that is part of it, people have forgotten any other way to be clean besides a shower or a full bath.

i have lived too many years, both child and adult, in a single bath home with more people than could schedule that many morning showers, and the water heating system, not to mention the towel washing system would have been greatly challenged. Them that were really in need of a deep clean, bathed or showered at night, those who needed a proper wash did so as part of the evening or morning routine. Even during periods of time with more than one bath and fewer family members, I dont feel the need to get up early to have a shower just for wakening or whatever, that's what coffee is for! If I had been so dirty as to NEED a shower the night before, i wouldnt have gone to bed in that state.

TimeForAnotherNameChange · 01/10/2014 13:21

My hair. It's very thick, very curly and very dry. It also takes an age to dry if wet and doesn't respond well to daily washing. So I shower and hairwash every other day and then either grab my shower cap (neither stylish nor beautiful!), or have a sink wash on the alternate day.

It is quite possible to have an all-over wash with a flannel but to do this properly- wash with a soap flannel and then rinse with a flannel- and do this from head to toe, is going to take longer than a shower.

It's quite easy to stagger showers in a 1-bathroom house. we have to do this when we visit the elderly parents.

Incidentally my parents had an outside loo when they were first married and no bathroom- tin bath in front of the fire in the lounge. They were super clean though I understand- and would have an all over wash or a bath at the end of the day.

CarrotAndStick · 01/10/2014 13:53

Why do you have to have a shower in the am? We all have a shower in the evening, nice warm one that help relaxing me before going to sleep.

tethersend · 01/10/2014 13:53

I don't shower at all, I just immerse myself in a vat of dettol every thirty minutes. Just in case.

Loathe and despise showers in general but especially in the mornings when I'm still sleepy and far too delicate for their relentless, obnoxious spraying Angry

A nice, soothing bath before bed is far more civilised.

Kim82 · 01/10/2014 14:08

I love my morning shower and hate it if I don't manage to have one. The thing that is stopping me lately though is my 10 week old baby. She doesn't sleep and won't let me put her down long enough to shower in the mornings...grrrr!

I'm currently still sat in my pjs after a particularly screamy morning. Can't wait for dh to get home and take over for 10 mins so I can hop into the shower.

sunflower49 · 01/10/2014 14:17

I usually bathe at night. I exercise before I shower so it can be anytime during the day and then I'll shower afterwards or have a bath if I have time.

I do wash my pits and crevices if I feel I need to , before I go out anywhere but generally I'm not a smelly person and as I'm doing a lot of 'mucky' jobs at the moment I don't see the point sometimes of getting up, showering and then going to do my jobs and then going for a run and needing another shower....

Madamecastafiore · 01/10/2014 14:21

Nothing.

I showered once before exercise this morning and again afterwards and will bathe tonight.

Wouldn't leave the house without showering, same daily task as brushing teeth IMO.

Madamecastafiore · 01/10/2014 14:22

Washing with a flannel, even a nice clean one makes me want to Boak!

AppleAndMelon · 01/10/2014 14:25

I don't think I've ever had a day without a bath or shower as an adult. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to be clean.

magicalmrmistofelees · 01/10/2014 14:39

Agree appleandmelon, I can't remember the last day I didn't have a shower. And that's with a 10.5m DD! I shower early in the morning before DH goes to work, so he can watch her for 10 mins.

101handbags · 01/10/2014 16:44

I never shower in the morning except at weekends. I work in London, I feel so dirty after the long commute I much prefer to shower in the evenings - a lovely long hot shower. Plus I don't have time in the mornings, I have to leave the house at 7 so would rather stay in bed as long as I can.

Passthecake30 · 01/10/2014 16:48

I usually skip one or two a week in the cooler weather, if I know I'm just staying at home. Hate the stripping off and getting cold. I wash my face, bits and pits with a flannel and no one has ever said I smell. ...

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/10/2014 17:13

I have to even if I'm not doing anything because

my hair is short so it needs to be soaked even if I don't wash it (I do shampoo alternate days)

I brush my teeth in the shower so I don't go out looking like I've licked Tippex

I'm hot flushey hormonally so yes, I need to shower daily .

Branleuse · 01/10/2014 17:17

I shower every day in the holidays, but term time i often dont seem to prioritise it first thing and then forget, but i still do it pretty often, and im not a smelly or sweaty person in general
