Lord yes Kablooger, also, Sister Wolf vs Jane off of Sea of Shoes is one of the great dynastic battles of our times. Makes Wars of the Roses look like a picnic

It was very a bit odd Snails, I agreeHmm.

Gillybobs · 19/08/2014 19:01

Agree Snails, have looked at the A57 blog previously and am surprised at the tone of her posts on here

I thought it was an interesting discussion up to that point

nicelyneurotic · 19/08/2014 19:26

Also agree with snails. And thought your scarf attempt was very funny.

I tend to follow beauty blogs, not fashion ones, but probably will now as a result of this thread. Yes, I don't like all the outfits, but I don't think the bloggers expect us to. Poppy seems especially nice. It's entertainment and it would be boring if every look was a safe one that we had to politely applaud.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 19/08/2014 19:27

I love joanna/poppy blog. She's a breath of fresh air. Not scared to take a risk and well aware that she's putting herself out there for potential ridicule and bitching. Her daughter is the cutest thing ever!

There are a few mummy blogs that are sickening and just come across as false. So you really walk the kids around national trust grounds in ripped or skintight jeans or short shorts with your bra exposed under an artfully cut band t-shirt with your kids?

Hey I'm far from stylish I like fashion I love shopping and I enjoy reading many blogs but I don't hold any of them up as icons. I view them like magazines. I don't buy magazines anymore (unless there is a good freebie) so these are my relaxation no need to think just read and look at pics.

WilburIsSomePig · 19/08/2014 19:31

I reckon she perhaps didnt read all the posts and just saw a couple of the not so nice ones, then posted.

Snails your opinion is just as valid as anyone else's. I know jack shit about fashion but I'll bloody well give my opinion if I want! Grin

LinusDKD · 19/08/2014 19:35

sansucre you look gorgeous!

If I ever find my waist again maybe irretrievably lost after two DC I will try and copy that outfit.

Wow. Maybe don't blog if you can't stand people being critical?
I posted because I love the style and beauty section; I have great chats on here as part of threads and I was Shock that loads of you seemed to be holding up very ordinary looking people as style icons. Made me rethink a bit.
So if that makes me a bitch, fine. Life's too short to argue the toss.

angeltulips · 19/08/2014 20:40

A57, you need to get a grip

Most of the bloggers referred to are making substantial amounts of money off their blogs. They are commercial undertakings, and if people think they're crap they have every right to point that out. That's neither catty nor bitchy.

If you are so caught up in the idea that your clothes identify who you are and therefore must never be criticised, can I suggest you stay away from fashion blogging (or "outfit blogging" or whatever pedantic distinction you're making)? If you want to hold hands and sing songs and compliment your friends on how nice they look, go out to dinner with your friends not mine as they're all too willing to tell me when I've got it wrong

sansucre · 19/08/2014 21:27

Thank you LinusDKD

My waist might be small but my hips are big which means I have to put this skirt on over my head!!

Here's a link for the skirt. It's from Zara and the best leather look skirt I've seen for some time. Every time I wear it, someone will stop me to ask where it's from. The best thing about it is that it's wipe clean! (The also have it in black but the waistband is slightly different and the material used isn't as nice so stay away!)

The top is from Iris and Ink. (If you're not familiar with the brand, it's The Outnet's clothing line). I'm really quite busty and this has been one of the only stripy tops that looks good on me.

Picking up from what HelpMeGetOutOfHere said about not buying magazines anymore, I don't either. I find blogs, even the ones not to my taste far more inspiring. I was at a friend's house over the weekend and was flicking through this month's Vogue and was shocked at how bad it's become, nothing I wanted to wear in it at all and so badly put together. Nothing to read either.

TillyWilly · 19/08/2014 21:36

AtlanticDrift this may be the blog for you. Alexandra is lovely and she loves ebay and buys lots of high end items for very little. She also has lots of clothes she has kept from over the years and mixes it up with the occasional high street find. She also works in fashion.

TillyWilly · 19/08/2014 21:58

boutiquebootcamp.blogspot.co.uk/
sorry forgot to link it.

sharingeverythingtwice · 19/08/2014 22:15

The fact that a57 has written a blog post today, in which she restates the fact that the majority of us on this thread are bitches has really annoyed me. How labelling other women bitches whilst conversely trying to make women feel better about themselves with a blog go together I don't know. I also can't see the difference between that post commenting on us and the so called "bitchy" comments on here.

summerberries · 19/08/2014 22:18

I think that if you do choose to blog you have to accept that some people will have positive things to say and others will have negative things. If you can't handle this, don't blog!
Having said that, it is fair to differentiate between those who blog now and again as a sort of hobby and those who do it more full time 'professionally' as a personal promotion/ advertising platform.

I used to like 'Wearing it Today' but have really gone off it more recently. I find it patronising and contrived and v out of touch with reality at times. The unpaid intern thing was in v poor form too. I have gone off the poorly names 'The Frugality' too more recently. She seems like a nice person but some of the clothes have been super unflattering recently and far from frugal. I occasionally look at DMBL40. There are too many lists but she does come across as a v nice person, ditto Eve on AllWornOut blog. I admire her guts in experimenting, ditto Poppy.
Overall, I prefer the ones where the blogger is frank with the readers, wears realistic clothes (i.e. not too high fashion and impractical) and doesn't try to paint an impossibly perfect lifestyle.

mrsbucketxx · 19/08/2014 22:36

This thread reminds me of a blog post this morning much more real howtobeadomesticdisgrace.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/why-i-am-not-fashion-and-beauty-blogger.html?m=1

I find most fashion bloggers not in touch with real style or budget

dexter73 · 19/08/2014 22:38

I would never criticise anyone either because I think (as women) we have enough pressure on ourselves viat the media. When women turn on each other I don't like it.

But it is ok to call us a bunch of bitches. Pot/kettle?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/08/2014 22:43

Loved that, 'Why I'm not a blogger' thing.

Have just been looking at Avenue 57 blog. I'm not a bitch, so I will refrain from saying much, but today's post was rather odd.

WilburIsSomePig · 19/08/2014 22:45

Oh I'm really disappointed now. :( I thought A57 just made a silly post, issued an apology and that was that. I looked at her blog earlier and liked it. Not nice that she blogged about what bitches some mumsnetters are. Very bad form.
