I don't look at blogs for inspiration. I am just nosy.

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/08/2014 12:34

I see WIT is wearing something else from m&s - gosh, anyone would think she was working for them or something.

noddyholder · 20/08/2014 13:23

I only ever have looked at Doesmybum which i love. Have had a look at WIT is very much what my friends and I wear I like it too. Think thats enough blog action for me I prefer pinterest and real life shopping!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/08/2014 13:31

Dexter - me too!

None of them really suit my interest/needs inspiration-wise tbh. The 'mum' ones are generally too dull for my liking, and the others are too high fashion/unpractical. I don't have a lifestyle that involves walking around city centres in towering heels, or wearing shorts with stilettos and a scarf, for example.

noddyholder · 20/08/2014 13:39

I do see the nosy appeal

Kablooger · 20/08/2014 13:39

none of them wear stuff I can wear to work.
they focus on dresses a lot , or endless jeans - yawn

Shopgirl1 · 20/08/2014 13:40

If WIT is working for M&S they made a bit of a mess of it having her market items already sold out.

I like some of the blogs a lot, I don't have time for trawling around shops anymore so occasionally pick something from them. I take what I don't like with a pince of salt.
Got my Reiss sandals after spotting them on fashion40ish, a few j crew items thanks to wit, I love Poppy's style, all worn out, susie so so (wish she posted more!) and fashion mum of 40. Also like Dmbl40, although the lists of items can be a bit boring, it used to me more about her style. I don't find it as genuine anymore, would she wear all those hush items if they were not gifted? A few things earlier in the year stood out as not her style as well, the navy spotted trousers for example. I still love reading it though but the novelty has kind of worn off.

Re Avenue 57, I read this on the past, but it's not my style really, however I'm surprised at Fiona's recent blog about this thread. You can't publish something online and not expected some feedback whether good or bad, outfit, fashion or whatever blog.

dexter73 · 20/08/2014 13:46

I quite like dmbl40's new hush cardigan but it is £110 for acrylic.

Pimmpom · 20/08/2014 13:53

Don't know if it is just me but when a company gifts items, the company goes down in my estimation. Have this mental picture of them on the internet waiting for a blogger to mention that they desperately need a new winter coat etc. and rushing to 'help' them. Hmm

shopafrolic · 20/08/2014 14:18

That's pretty much what happens Pimmpom. Usually the PR agency is tracking brand mentions for their client, and a call will go from them to the brand's marketing team suggesting that if a gift is made then there will be some media coverage as a result.
I would assume the blogger needs to declare the gift not just to their readers but also to the tax man? Not sure...

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/08/2014 14:35

I would have thought so too Shop! There's a lot more regulation in the US I think, especially when bloggers then flog all their 'freebies'. It will end up being the same here I'm sure. Which could make that vile acrylic cardigan not such a great 'gift' after all.

I get the impression doesmybum is bored of blogging - I mean how many times can she blog about ankle boots that look like pistols.

I don't think WIT is very savvy, I mean half her links take you off her site and often don't work.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/08/2014 14:41

I'd like to see more blogs by women who go to work, who don't go shopping every day and who don't have lots of their husband's money to spend. Belinda's blog is good, for that reason.

I'd also like to see bloggers wearing one dress in lots of different ways etc. After all, most of us aren't buying new stuff every day or every week and have to wear our clothes on repeat.

shopafrolic · 20/08/2014 14:45

Agree WIT's formatting is the pits. Never shows in full on the screen and the links and text are all over the place. Shame as pre the M&S love in I used to enjoy having a nose at that one.

summerberries · 20/08/2014 15:02

The trouble is that women who work, especially full time in a professional type of role don't have the time to blog, at least not very regularly.

I agree with remus that it would be nice to see imagination and creativeness put into styling the same few items in different ways as well as women who just buy more and more new items.

mignonette · 20/08/2014 15:04

I have given up on fashion blogs apart from Tales of Endearment and Tavi's which is just so bright and sharp and barking - seeing her grow up through her blog has been cool. The rest are all much of a muchness with little to distinguish them from all the others.

I used to read a few but think that now the market is saturated and many of them are really just 'what I have bought' posts which is fine if that is what you are looking for. I like a bit more of the fashion history and culture, the sense that the blogger/writer knows fashion as opposed to just knowing about shopping. I wish Hamish Bowles and Andre Leon Talley would write a joint blog- there's nothing they don't know about every fashion reference and piece of history. That'd be a ur blog.

MarshaBrady · 20/08/2014 15:34

Agree it's harder to get your mind in work and to do a blog. Esp if full time. I know I have zero incentive as I'd rather just earn the money and buy the clothes.

Although a few do, Amber I think.

BarbaraPalmer · 20/08/2014 16:02

I think I saw a fashion blogger at the beach on holiday

She arrived with her partner in the late afternoon. It was getting a bit windy, so we were getting ready to pack up. She changed into her bikini, and then spent half an hour making her partner take a billion photos. There were the action shots ("running" down the beach, paddling), the face to camera, the glance over the shoulder, the laugh at the invisible person somewhere to the left, and many more.

After every few pics she'd look through what had been taken, berate her poor man for getting in wrong, and order more to be taken. He was massively not interested and gagging to get into his Dan Brown. When he was eventually allowed to stop, she put her jeans and jumper back on. The bikini was only for the photos.

theladylovescupcakes · 20/08/2014 16:32

I'm a real Poppy fan too, I admire her honesty and her "aww, f#ck it" approach.

I must admit I read a lot of blogs, but it's annoying when every second post lately (Bum40 I'm looking at you!) tells about gifted items, although I suppose it's partly why they do it in the first place.

And enough with the person toes and slouchy shoulders!

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/08/2014 16:48

But does bum do it for the freebies. I mean her tastes are more to the £££ aren't they but she's never going to get given those types of gifts.

Not sure if she's making a lot from links though, its possible I guess.

Kablooger · 20/08/2014 16:57

That cardigan. The pink one. ITS FRICKIN VILE. Has she been to c&a bargain rail?

Plus those coatigan things she wears. No no

theladylovescupcakes · 20/08/2014 17:00

pigeon not person toes, obv.

Vikkil1 · 20/08/2014 17:40

I remember DMBL40 from another forum. She used to be very home counties mum and quite conservative. Then she fancied a style change (no problem with that), and discovered All Saints style; lots of layering, waterfall style drapey cardigans, neutral colours, chunky boots. In my opinion this was her best look, she looked edgy but not too trendy, and it suited her shape and lifestyle perfectly. Then she set up the blog and really lost the plot. Now she picks too many trends and doesn't style them well, like skate shoes and logo sweatshirts, then she'll add a mumsy scarf and blazer, or chunky necklace that doesn't fit the look. And her hair is absolutely gorgeous but it is not a cut or style that suits some of the more street style daytime clothes she chooses. She does however excel at evening wear.

Its a shame as she writes well and has an obvious passion for fashion, but I don't think she looks confident in some of her new looks. Like she won't be seen as a credible fashion blogger if she doesn't try everything out there. Also agree with the huge lists - posting the same thing in all the colourways or every possible version from every shop is not an edit.

Also on a more general note, I have a really irrational dislike for any blog name that includes any or all of the words "mum" "40" or "school". All of those things apply to me, and I don't wish to be defined by any of them in my clothes.

Kablooger · 20/08/2014 17:48

what forum?

noddyholder · 20/08/2014 17:49

Now this is bitchy, awful

imsureineverdo · 20/08/2014 17:50

Probably Damsels?
