She just wants her sycophantic commenters to agree. That's the thing.

gerbiltamer · 19/08/2014 22:58

Blimey, seriously unimpressed with A57's comments and blog post too (plus her use of three exclamation marks to really hammer home her point!!!) FWIW I like clothes and enjoy reading blogs written and crafted by similar aged women much more than seeing airbrushed models pinned into designer fashion shoots in glossy mags.

Joanna (Poppy's Style) is great and Susie is fab too. I think I'll give Avenue 57 a wide berth though.

Dumpylump · 19/08/2014 23:08

It's all gone a bit weird Confused
Am I the only one that went a wee bit fangirl and excited when Joanna came on to post on this thread? As I've already said, I really like her blog and she seems like a genuinely lovely person!
The other one.....not so much

Turquoiseblue · 19/08/2014 23:17

I think avenue 57 is just looking for more traffic on her blog tbh.Wink. I bet WIT/ DMBL40 poppy and worn out have had lots of traffic from today s chat.

She jumped in, she apologised. Some of the comments here might be a bit too harsh. But bloggers do put themselves out there, and people do have opinions and this is a forum to express opinions.... Da dum!

summerberries · 19/08/2014 23:28

Oh yes, Susiesoso seems great fun and v genuine, although her style is different to mine, i.e. most of her clothes wouldn't suit me at all.

MarshaBrady · 19/08/2014 23:29

It was fine until the last line which was a bit hmmm. Not sure what happened there.

SlobDylan · 19/08/2014 23:38

The fact that a57 has written a blog post today, in which she restates the fact that the majority of us on this thread are bitches has really annoyed me.

That isn't how I read her post. She really just reiterates what she posted here: "I only read one page / had to apologise / sorry to those who were nice / but some of you did say bitchy things"

And some of you did! Might as well own it. Just because some people who didn't say something unkind come on and point out that they didn't say anything nasty, doesn't mean that nobody did, does it?

And someone always writes "if you put yourself out there on the internet then you should expect feedback good and bad, it goes with the territory" etc etc. -Well then surely the same applies to people who post on threads on the internet and then get told that, amazingly, some people out there don't agree with their comments and indeed, may even find them 'catty' or 'bitchy' or whatever.

There has been much constructive, sensible posting here, but there is also no getting away from the fact that, IMO, the OP didnt start this thread to bemoan the fact that bloggers don't disclose their freebies, but to enable her to post pictures of a woman in leather shorts in order to belittle said leather-shorted woman!

Ooh that was an essay. There we go. flame my leather, gimp-shorted arse.

GilbertBlytheWouldGetIt · 19/08/2014 23:46

This thread is my everything. Happy sigh.

JetJungle · 20/08/2014 00:45

But that leather-shorted woman came onto the thread and said that she loved it and that she benefited from the increased traffic, so what's the problem?

Why come to Poppy's rescue when she doesn't need it?

A57 was just looking for increased traffic imo.

BecauseIsaidS0 · 20/08/2014 04:48

I loved Joanna's attitude. She doesn't give a hoot what anyone thinks and she has fun with it all.

AvonleaAnne · 20/08/2014 05:11

I have a blog (craft not fashion) from the early days of blogging, when you used to have to write your own code! It used to be the case that blogs were a community enabling you to find like-minded people and most posts would get fifty or so comments discussing the topic. I haven't blogged really since my children were born (six years ago) but my blog, due to free patterns etc, still gets a fair amount of traffic. I've noticed though, that people are much more demanding and less polite in their queries to me. I think nowadays people see blogs as a business or 'putting yourself out there' when, originally, it was all about finding people to share your thoughts with. Even the most popular blogs don't get many comments these days, as people treat them more like magazines than a chance to get to know someone online who is interested in the same things.

In my opinion, there isn't really ever a need to mock someone behind their back on an Internet forum. Just because you have a blog doesn't mean you are opening yourself up for attack. Why not just start being a regular commentator on Poppy's blog. Then you can comment on whether you like her outfit or not without seeming cruel. We are amazed at the cruelty and bullying that our teenagers are dealing with on social media but we as adults are setting a bad example.

However, I am probably just out of touch on how these things work. Nothing seems to be what it seems on the internet these days and the media do seem to try and manipulate us through fake personal blogs. Isn't that all the more reason to engage directly with bloggers rather than bringing them traffiic in this way?

HarrySnotter · 20/08/2014 06:53

Well I must have been reading a different thread to A57 because in her reply to a comment about 50% of the posts on this thread are bitchy ones. I am starting to agree with the PP who said it was done for more traffic. I really liked her blog when I looked at it yesterday and saved it to my bookmarks but I actually think that blogging about how nasty mumsnetters is pretty unkind.

Most bloggers that I follow are pretty cool with people having different opinions and views to them. My friend blogs (completely different subject) and I asked her if any negative feedback bothers her and she just laughed, saying that only a fool would blog and not expect some negativity.

A57 · 20/08/2014 11:28

I want to clarify that I don't come on this site often. I was pointed towards this one thread (not the whole of the site). What I read initially did seem bitchy to me. I said sorry to those I dumped into the bitchy comment.

I did not come for traffic, I do not seek traffic. Blogging is not a source of income for me. I work part time on other things.

If I offended anyone then I will say sorry but I still stand by the starting essence of this thread was catty and nasty and IMVHO not called for.

Kablooger · 20/08/2014 11:30

I still think a blogger needs to accept that putting a picture of yourself up in what YOU think its a nice outfit would have to accept the idea that is ISNT a nice outfit.
And if you have no backbone to accept you might (GASP) get it wrong, then you are very vain indeed.

Kablooger · 20/08/2014 11:30

in the same way that if you write a book, people might hate it, or write a song, or paint a picture.

People might not like it!

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/08/2014 11:36

I do agree with the poster though who called for a differentiation between the 'amateur' blogs and those that are clearly a business.

So I feel happier to critique WIT than Poppy.

fashion40ish · 20/08/2014 11:50

I think there is such a diversity out there. There are many different levels of blogging and some still do have a genuine 'forum' feel. Isn't it great that we can dip in and out and pick and choose. I mix up blog reading with Pinterest and Instagram. I pick out what inspires me and apply it to my lifestyle. It is all harmless, whether the bloggers are making a crust out of it or not and I have to admit that I prefer it when they disclose that it is a sponsored post. I am taking a break, from my blog, as my Husband said I was becoming a tad obsessed (to be fair he was quite right) and it is holiday time for the little one. My brother commented that he thought blogging was a bit 'self absorbed' but I honestly don't feel that way. For me it is a little bit of creativity that can be done from the comfort of my own home. p.s I wish I had the balls to wear leather shorts and, maybe in the future, I just might. Helen.

Go Joanna.

TillyWilly · 20/08/2014 12:03

Hi Fashion. I miss your posts as you mixed up loads if your old stuff with some new. x

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/08/2014 12:04

I like your blog too Fashion40 - I live quite in the south west too. You also have the same ancient camo zara jacket that I have and still wear.

TillyWilly · 20/08/2014 12:06

"Sniggering at Blogs thread" says it all really and before I opened the thread I thought that it was bitchy.

JetJungle · 20/08/2014 12:16

But being offended on behalf of someone who isn't even offended herself is ridiculous.

A57 says sorry about calling everyone bitches but then moves the whole thing to her blog so if you want to argue the point or even see what she says about people on this thread, you have to give her the traffic.

I think that comes across as a bit sneaky.

santamarianovella · 20/08/2014 12:18

kablooger you summed up the entire notion of this thread, to be honest I don't find any of the blogs mentioned here as style inspiration or anything, very ordinary , and you have to admit some outfits choices are rather plain wrong,
I sometimes read things like " oh I'm experimenting with these new paint splatter jeans or shorts what do you think?" You clearly ask for opinions, but in reality you don't want to hear negative ones, so why post then? Wear whatever you like without asking opinions, or even posting, No need to be all defensive and barge into here ala A57 Wink

I said this before, and I will say it again, blogging is not what it used to be, %90 of bloggers hope to make careers out of it, so if you really are in it for outfit sharing , then Instagram and snapshot are better and easier options

mrscb yes it's not fair to compare blogs like wit with others , Laura knows her stuff, she worked in fashion industry and can manage, and clearly has good team to help her with her blog,
and I think she is branching into a lifestyle blog instead of just a fashion one , hence her holiday posts,

noddyholder · 20/08/2014 12:20

I would never even think of looking at a blog for 'inspiration' but that may be an age thing

WilburIsSomePig · 20/08/2014 12:21

I think that comes across as a bit sneaky.

Agreed. And perhaps putting a post about a load of 'bitchy' (in her own opinion) women on her blog was just doing exactly what she had just berated others for.

MarshaBrady · 20/08/2014 12:29

I did ask A57 for a link, just to move the chat on from ire really, being mildly polite rather than overly keen. So I don't think it was for for traffic.

I don't consider anyone blogging here out of the ordinary so was hmm at the we're just normal, I wasn't suggesting otherwise.

I don't really use blogs anyway, I guess that's why they don't bother me. Much prefer pin- tailored and what I want to see.
