I don't see how that's any bitchier than what has been said about Poppy to be honest.

noddyholder · 20/08/2014 18:01

I didn't see that no idea who poppy is. I have no problem with people saying blogging is crap it not really my thing tbh either but personal things are crossing a line (but that may just be me) I have been on teh receiving end of that and it is very unpleasant

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/08/2014 18:03

I think doesmybum should be a lot more careful about what she tweets - she reveals way too much which makes you vulnerable if you blog.

Kablooger · 20/08/2014 18:09

What's damsels? Lord. It's a whole new world. katie price emoticon

Vikkil1 · 20/08/2014 19:35

If you're referring to me, I thought as soon as I pressed send I might be accused of being bitchy. I rarely post on forums as I am so worried about how it is perceived, I'd much rather lurk so I'm sorry if I've offended you. However this thread is specifically about our opinions of fashion blogs, and the comments are not all positive, that is allowed. I deliberately didn't mention any further details as previous forums and prior usernames are not relevant to my point, just that I much preferred this persons previously fashion style and that I think it's gone a bit wrong in her current blog. Just context really. I don't think I was nasty about her clothes or anything else about her, as I said pointed out what I liked and what she did well, but yes I was negative about parts.

Again I'm sorry if you felt I my opinion offended you.

lurkingaround · 20/08/2014 20:19

Damsels? Never heard of it. Just had a look. Emoticons move on the screen! Most distracting. Grin

karameatom · 21/08/2014 01:09

Im new to mumsnet and live overseas so this is my way of keeping up with UK fashion, which is the best in the world in my humble opinion, I love some of the style blogs but have become bored with a lot lately, who has the money quite frankly. I think as I have got older and wiser I have discovered that it probably is worth spending money on classics that will take you through a few years and keep the fashion frenzies to a minimum ( ie wedge trainers, jumpsuits, if your into that sort of thing!) I love susiesoso for this and also net-a-dresser who doesnt even reveal herself, very intriguing. BTW also love poppy as I can fully sympathise being an ex pat.

KoalaDownUnder · 21/08/2014 05:44

I think Joanna from Poppy's Style is great. We have completely different body types and styles, but I love the tone of her blog regardless.

That WIT blog is bizarre. The post about what they all wear to travel - WTF. Pretentious clones. (Yes, I know that's bitchy, and I don't care!)

BooToYouToo · 21/08/2014 08:52

I love it when bloggers post photos of items which didn't work. Susie So So and one of the Worn Out girls are good at this but also DMBL40. Also on A57 some post if they're unsure of an item. Saves me ordering and returning stuff.

Most of the things I see on blogs I know won't suit me but I've also been found some real gems. Tesco tan sandals featured heavily last year on several blogs and mine are still going strong. I bought a Reiss top in the sale which I wear loads although can't be arsed to shop there.

I know enough of my own style to steer clear of anything which will frump me out i.e. New Balance trainers and jumpsuits which would make my bum look huge.

I did have a snigger this week that Esprit seem to have done a major PR job as they are mentioned on at least 3 or 4 blogs. However I like the brand and it fell off my radar when the Bluewater store closed so I enjoyed catching up with what's on offer.

LinusDKD · 22/08/2014 11:00

sansucre I have just tried on that Zara skirt but it didn't really suit me. I'm too short and hip-y unfortunately. Shame!

yes I thought that was strange too. Oh well

FallonColby · 01/09/2014 14:42

Surely if you're a fashion blogger and the majority of your readers are mums then any mention on mumsnet must be great for traffic. Don't focus groups cost a fortune to come up with the kind of feedback that is on mumsnet. I remember there was some really good discussion on the thread a couple of months ago. I wonder what will happen to style blogs? I definitely don't look at them as much as I used to.

hanginginthere1 · 01/09/2014 21:32

Fashion mum of 40 seems to have modelled herself on DMBL40. What do we think of the lady with the pink front door. Great legs!

MotherOfFerals · 01/09/2014 21:47

Pink front door lady ( is that vaguely saucy?) is dullsville. As is Avril.
And why is dressing for the school run such a major thing as to have blogs dedicated to the whole 5 minutes spent in the playground and yes, I speak as someone who wears pyjamas under a coat to take offspring to nursery and school.
I don't so much snigger at blogs as roll my eyes at the appalling grammar and spelling: wrong use of the apostrophe in it's
Would of instead of would have.
Cardigen.
You'd think basic literacy would be important.

WipsGlitter · 01/09/2014 22:05

Style Guile? It's ok. I like dmb40 but skim to what she's wearing. She makes a fair bit from her links apparently. I like Susie. She picks some really nice stuff. I follow school gate style. I like fab at any age. I don't like dressed as lamb.

Agree if wit is hoping to turn this into a business she needs to get a proof reader.

FallonColby · 02/09/2014 09:53

I like Fashion mum of 40 as she keeps it simple ie. just does a post on what she has worn and keeps her posts are short and succinct. I don't like too many posts about hairdressers, beauty products etc as I would look at a beauty blog for that.

JohnCusacksWife · 02/09/2014 13:09

MotherOfFerals, think you're being a bit literal there! The names just highlight their target readership, don't they? They're not a specific description of when to wear the clothes featured.

Gillybobs · 02/09/2014 13:32

I also really like Fashion Mum of 40 and think she has lovely classic taste in clothes. But I agree with Mother that her grammar and spelling is dreadful which does really put me off reading her posts. This post title made me want to throw my iPad out the window...fashionmumof40.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/were-has-our-summer-gone.html

FallonColby · 02/09/2014 17:05

Too be honest I only really look at the pictures and never read the posts as I'm only interested in seeing the clothes. I guess they are the blog equivalent of Hello magazine for me, where the words are just a vehicle for the pictures :)

The Londoner does my head in!

Undisclosed freebies galore and such a sloaney pony.

All the recipes are lifted from other sources too.

Ujjayi · 03/09/2014 14:07

Fashion Mum of 40 is morphing into Laura Fantacci. I saw this on instagram today. My first thought was "WIT has had her wall rendered..." Nope, that would just be somebody cloning her look, identikit style. Not sure why that makes for an interesting blog.

SofaCanary · 03/09/2014 14:11

The Londoner is a complete tool.

Makes for fun reading if you bear that in mind at all times.

Milmingebag · 03/09/2014 14:51

My Superfluities blog is fabulous in giving me a reality check if I am ever drawn to anything in the Boden catalogue.

This is how it actually looks on a normal frame without all the bulldog clips and six foot limbs to showcase it.

Oh and you know that question about who actually buys the garish patterns? Here lies the way of truth. Grin
