Oh and I wear more casual full midi skirts with Converse too this sort of thing but with a fitted but not cropped top

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 10/08/2014 20:11

Ha - I quickly stopped calling my flip flops "things" when I moved to London. I love Zara in Spain - cheaper and often slightly different stock. Yes, good tactic to see how you get on, with a possibility of shortening the skirt if it doesn't work, full length.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 10/08/2014 20:12

My days of cropped tops are well behind me. Not sure I'm terribly sorry, either.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/08/2014 20:15

Gosh yes!

Merriboo · 10/08/2014 20:39

The next dress is an absolute gem!
White isn't normally my colour too pasty white English rose porcelain grin but this is a slightly off white and works better with some if my dresses than my beige one.
Brillenbar good luck! Both my locals had cleared their new stock for the final sale. Normally good for a bargain trawl but I wanted to check out some jackets this [[http://www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/outerwear/blazers/striped-blazer-with-zips-c498014p2056009.html this ]] and this

Merriboo · 10/08/2014 20:42

Remus I love the look of midi a line/full skirts with fitted tops a la Audrey Hepburn. I just wish they suited me Sad

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/08/2014 20:44

Just spotted this cotton and silk mix blouse online. Looks like it might be worth checking out.

Merriboo · 10/08/2014 21:38

Ohh that reminds me. Friend of mine got this and said it wears and washes really well. But avoid the white/ pink as they have less cotton and don't wash as well.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 11/08/2014 02:39

remus - silk/cotton is one of the best fabrics for shirts IMO. That Oasis shirt looks great - will add it to my Pinterest, thanks!

meriboo - ah, a H&M gem, I like!

margaritasbythesea · 11/08/2014 08:34

I saw a red dress very like the one linked above in Next yesterday and although it is not my colour or shape I was impressed at the thickness of the material and richness of the colour. Looked much more expensive.

margaritasbythesea · 18/08/2014 08:07

I bought the coat Belinda suggested. It's great!

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 18/08/2014 09:45

Which one, Margaritas?

margaritasbythesea · 19/08/2014 00:19

The blue wool blend one from Marks. I thought nice quality fabric, thick and the style was slimming. The colour is lovely. I have two more days of shopping but I haven't seen anything I prefer yet. I am a little worried about the faddiness of the collar though.

Btw it is much nicer than the pale blue one that is getting in magazines and supplements atm. For me, it is too long and looks to ladyish and old-fashioned. Perhaps that is its charm, but not for me.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 20/08/2014 09:55

I wouldn't worry about the collar - I don't think it's a "trendy" detail that will look v 2014. I have seen it on a & Other Stories coat, but that's all. It does mean you need a scarf, but I feel the cold, so normally wear scarves in winter, anyway. Btw that coat is now sold out. Trying to do a coat post, and wanted to include it, but I can't.

Pale blue coats are also pretty, but I wouldn't get a coat I thought was too nanna or long, either. I find the shape of coats are really important for me as I'm 5'4" and size 10 so can get swamped / look huge in the wrong shape. I won't buy another cocoon or drop shoulder coat again, for instance.

silk on the highstreet klaxon

Whistles have some silk tops in interesting shapes and patterns - expensive but actual natural fibres! whatever next!

I liked this (for a Friday!)

www.whistles.com/women/clothing/tops/ocelot-print-silk-top.html?dwvar_ocelot-print-silk-top_color=Grey%2FMulti

Some of the others don't seem to be on the website yet

Also hobbs had lots

www.hobbs.co.uk/product/display?productID=0214-6479-9077L00&productvarid=0214-6479-9077L00-IVORY LACE PINK-12&refpage=tops

www.hobbs.co.uk/product/display?productID=0214-6477-3642L00&productvarid=0214-6477-3642L00-IVORY-10&refpage=search/results this was lovely and simple

www.hobbs.co.uk/product/display?productID=0214-6480-3642L00&productvarid=0214-6480-3642L00-PINK GRAPEFRUIT-16&refpage=search/results quite liked the colour of this - although not sure it would suit me

And Karen Millen - I have never bought anything there in my life but they have some lovely things at the moment. Definitely worth a look if you want one or two statement dresses or skirts.

www.karenmillen.com/pleat-detail-shift-dress/dresses/karenmillen/fcp-product/101DT02601 much less rock-chick in real life - the lower part is pleated which softens it nicely

www.karenmillen.com/paint-printed-full-skirt/skirts/karenmillen/fcp-product/062SS09740 love this

www.karenmillen.com/asymmetric-wrap-skirt/skirts/karenmillen/fcp-product/061ST05001 would be good with a little merino jumper on top and nice thick tights

Sadly I STILL have no money so no shopping for me this month again.

FreeButtonBee · 20/08/2014 15:10

I also tried on that M&S blue coat - terrible shape on me but I am a short arse so things are rately cut right for my boobs and hips. Shame as it is lovely quality. This is also why I have banned myself from shopping in M&S except for basics. They have a definite shape and it ain't mine.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 20/08/2014 16:29

I tried a few things on at M&S the other week, and some were great but quite a few were far too long / big for me. Will post soon, but it wasn't an easy shop for me to find things.

Fab fab fab, will check those links later. I love silk. The Uniqlo silk shirts look good, too.

maybemyrtle · 20/08/2014 17:08

YY Belinda please can you check out the Uniqlo silk ones? I've had some in a basket for days and can't quite take the step to checkout. Won't be near a store for a few weeks to look in person.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 20/08/2014 17:47

Sure, no problem. I tried them on a few months ago, but they were disappointing. However, the batch before that were good, so let's see how I go this time.

margaritasbythesea · 20/08/2014 20:54

They had lovely silk shirts in Zara when I went. £60 ish but looked nicer, to me, than the uniqlo ones. They had a kind of warm apricot colour and an olive green iirc. The website seems to show this looking very orange but it is more honey coloured irl.

Also love my new pointy flats from Marks. Not on website but really nice in black or burgundy suede or grey leather £45.

They had lots of the coat I bought instore today.

NumptyNu · 20/08/2014 21:14

Great 'coat' post Belinda. I don't suppose you came across any decent petite styles or ranges while researching?

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 20/08/2014 21:28

margaritas - are your shoes, these? www.marksandspencer.com/suede-pointed-toe-pumps-with-insolia-flex/p/p22309949?colour=Berry#product-info. Annoying that the coat isn't available for people to also buy online. Oh M&S, dear me. That Zara silk shirt looks lovely - even online the colour is pretty.

numpty - thank you! Do you know, I didn't, really. So annoying - I actually looked, too. Banana Republic have a petite range, but they don't have any wool coats out, yet. Gap do too, so if you look on my Pinterest boards, if you like the Gap coats, you can click thru to the website and see if they do the coat in petite? J Crew do petite, but are £££. Alternatively, find a slim fit coat, and have the sleeves shortened? Will keep looking and thinking and come back to this.

NumptyNu · 20/08/2014 21:39

Thanks Belinda. A few good places for me to start there. You are spot on in that it is usually the sleeves that are too long.

NumptyNu · 20/08/2014 21:44

PS could you remind me what to search for to find you on Pinterest please?

Brillenbar · 20/08/2014 21:49

I've just bought 3 uniqlo silk shirts. Will wear the first one tomorrow (navy blue, no pockets) and see whether I think I want to keep all 3, but initial impression is that the silk is astoundingly good quality for the price.
