I am definitely guilty of keeping clothes 'for best' but am good at down grading stuff for work or dog walking/slouching around.

Weekend clothes were of the slouching around variety except for maxi dress and gigs Saturday eve. After clearing up yesterday, I spent the rest of the day reading outside - read a whole book. My idea of heaven.

Shop, more Thanks for you. I know this must tough for you to start facing. I found it very sad with dmil so can imagine I would find it even harder with my own parents.

No purchases except for some Temple Spa stuff - got press ganged into going to a Temple Spa do last week. Anyone else use it?

BrandyAlexander · 23/06/2014 16:55

I think my life experiences have taught me that there is no point having "best" because things can be really transient, and you never know what might happen so you need to enjoy things now. Anyway for that reason, I don't have a "best", will happily use a designer bag to the corner shop and my bling to poundland. I also don't have "best" china, we use wedgewood and that's just our china. However, I have turned into my parents because I can't seem to have the same attitude to our wedding crystal. I am trying to get over myself and have started displaying flowers in crystal vases. It's baby steps though.

OneLittleLady · 23/06/2014 17:05

I don't save things for best because I have very few occasions that call for things to be 'best' That said, i don't have much in the way of expensive things apart from my music stuff and you can't really save musical instruments for best! I did used to be quite precious about things I'd spent more than usual on but realised that life is too short to worry about keeping everything perfect and there's little that isn't replaceable. You can't replace people but things can be bought and sold any time. I don't really think so little of myself as I used to and now think I am worth nice things to wear and stuff. My mum dying at 58 made me see that life is precious and short and it's not worth worrying about the small things. Life is for enjoying and making the most of and that's what I aim to do every day

Drywhiteplease · 23/06/2014 17:25

Betty I have been known to get dressed to go to Sainsburys and then changed when I get home shallow show off
Stokey nothing wrong with a dress in the park, bet there were some nasty sights in denim shorts.
liberty was just thinking you should wear that beautiful dress to the M.
novice well done DS ....we had our taster afternoon today. Some real characters coming in. Had a lot of fun being stupid with them Grin which is why I love my job, 5yrr olds just love my rubbish humour Grin

Felt great in my outfit today and a student (22/23 ish) even asked me where I got my skirt ooooh I'm down with the kids meGrin

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 23/06/2014 17:31

Me+Em sale has started, can't remember who else was waiting for it - maybe Decam or liberty?
Just did a quick order of work stuff, dress, skirt and another non-iron cheating top. Finally some decent reductions!

maradesbois · 23/06/2014 17:33

blair hope the stella skirt will be getting another outing for the mu! Would love to see it, a great piece.

one you're right about life being to short to keep things for best. My mil drives me mad for never ever using 'good' china and not wearing her 'nice' clothes eg a pale camel cashmere maxmara coat that never gets an outing in case it gets dirty. Funnily enough though she is not like that with jewellery and footwear & wears a ton of bling and heels just to go out for bread.

Gorgeous weather again. Just been for a swim, feel like I've got my body confidence back despite still having over a stone to shed. Been doing loads of exercise which has really helped.

OneLittleLady · 23/06/2014 17:41

mara i'm not as good as I'd like to be at using things but I've got better. I used to buy lovely things and then stuff them in the wardrobe because I was convinced I wasn't good enough to wear something so nice, IYSWIM? All the help and support I've had from Sleep has helped me see that I am worthy, just like everyone else is and that there's no reason why I deserve to have less than other people. it's still a work in progress but I'm far more convinced of my own worth than I've been in the past

Drywhiteplease · 23/06/2014 17:45

Just ordered this and this not exciting but v useful if they're good. See, trying to make "considered" buys!!

Drywhiteplease · 23/06/2014 17:48

Oh, on best china, I found a stockist of our French dinner service given to us by family for our wedding. Not on our wedding list so I didn't know exact price. Just got a quote to replace 2 broken dessert plates....£115 EACH Shock good grief, it's staying a "special" set.

BrandyAlexander · 23/06/2014 18:01

Shock Dry. That reminds me of a saucepan set that we got as a wedding gift which wasn't on the wedding list, from dh's godparents. Our nanny damaged one of them (she does this all the freakin' time. bygones) and that's when i found out that the set was 900 and so each pan was about 150-ish. I don't think I have got over the shock.

Fedupnagging · 23/06/2014 18:40

The only reason I haven't downgraded our wedding china is that it is not microwaveable! plus the fact it's looking a bit dated

Novice, so pleased your little ds settled at pre prep.

One as we get older we are more of the life is for enjoying mentality too especially as we have friends and relatives who have had terminal illness/ tragedies over the last few years.

£150 for a saucepan Shock.

Dry love the stripey top.

We are in the middle of a thunderstorm ATM. Will save me from watering the plants.

Stokey · 23/06/2014 19:00

I watered mine about an hour ago Fed up!

Hope it cools things down a bit.I love the heat but the Dds get a bit restless in the humidity. They keep changing their minds about sleeping with a sheet or duvet. It was 25 in their room last night but both insisted on duvets (& then took ages to settle).

LinusDKD · 23/06/2014 19:23

Evening!

I didn't buy anything in the M&E sale as virtually nothing I had my eye on is on sale. Sad

I just haven't been inspired by anything in the sales until now. I don't know why because I normally am quite triggerhappy when it comes to bargains.

Drywhiteplease · 23/06/2014 19:52

Great work wear Blair, I think the cheating top is genius!

Fedup on reflection I'm wondering why I ordered the grey top as I have loads of grey tops Hmm

libertychick · 23/06/2014 20:10

My DD is the same Stokey, took ages to settle her last night. She has crashed out very quickly this evening though.

Good Me&Em buys Blair. The thing I wanted isn't reduced by enough!

MarshaBrady · 23/06/2014 20:35

Hello! Long day.

Gah I can't find a link to my new Burberry pants anywhere. I do really like them, stretch and pressed and cigarette leg in navy. I felt smart and colleague said I looked chic which is a work look I can handle Wink

I also have my eye on some Me&Em stuff Blair, but the one I want is only 30% off, which is bugging me!

Ok I need to catch up properly, back in a mo.

QueenCadbury · 23/06/2014 20:59

fedup where are you? Hoping that thunderstorms don't come here as I'm on an outdoor school activity day tomorrow (I've even dug out the ancient merrell sandals. Well what else is a girl to wear pond dipping?)

marsha those trousers sound gorgeous.

We have best cutlery and crockery from our wedding (only john Lewis and Denny so not freakishly expensive) but I love it because when we do dinner parties it means we actually have matching stuff and enough stuff. Why does everyday cutlery seem to disappear, especially tea spoons?

I've spent the evening cleaning up blood as dd had a nose bleed in the car followed by 4 more at home. My carpet is ruined I think.

MarshaBrady · 23/06/2014 21:32

Oh no QueenC re nose bleed. And yes our teaspoons have nearly all gone! Still double sets of all other wedding cutlery as we got the same thing twice.

I loved all our stuff, and did it at the wedding shop at Liberty. I was in heaven as you can imagine ;) although grr dh has broken some nice stuff.

Thanks re pants. They were half price so not too huge, but no exchange and no return. But luckily I loved them still when I got home.

I want it to cool down too Stokey, I hate this stickyness there is at the moment. It's not even that warm really. No thunderstorms here yet.

When I checked Me+Em this morning the sale had started, but the dress and top I bought (my wish list items) were only 20% off. This afternoon lots of things were 70% off, so maybe more things will go in. I got the top even though it's only 30% off as I remember it selling out last season (but then it is a wintery top).

Marsha those trousers sound great, hope you can find a link.

Oh no QueenC hope your DD is ok. My sister used to be really prone to nosebleeds when she was little, would wake up every week with one. Hopefully the carpet can be rescued too!

BrandyAlexander · 23/06/2014 21:43

I was really disappointed by the Me&Em and sale. it was the one that i was really looking forward to. The discounts were miniscule and at 9.50am when i checked it, i.e. immediately the sale started (thanks Linus!) pretty much anything i would have bought wasn't in my size. (cue rant that the little people need clothes too!).

bettykt · 23/06/2014 22:26

Novice Grin I'm little too and a popular size and I never find anything in the sales it's always sold out by the time I look.

Blair you did well in the Me*Em sales, nice classic work clothes, I do miss buying nice work clothes
Marsha loving the sound of your trousers, looking forward to the link if you can.
QueenC hope your daughter's nose has stopped bleeding, ds went pond dipping last year on school trip, what year are they?
One glad to hear you're on the up re: self worth and glad you're getting good help and support
Liberty what a shame you have to send your TWC purchases back, like you I can't do unstructured cardis either. Bought a waterfall cardi last year and have never really worn it much until I realised that it's not really me and I like my cardis and jackets fitted. The things you discover about yourself from S&B hey?

We don't have any best china Blush just use Denby which I have to keep replacing on a regular basis due to cack handed dh bashing it about when emptying the dishwasher.

Sorry for the mammoth post.

libertychick · 23/06/2014 22:33

Oh QueenC I feel for your DD. I used to get terrible nosebleeds as a child. I eventually had to have my nose cauterised when I was about 16

Drywhiteplease · 24/06/2014 08:18

I declare today a white jean day! -and I'm wearing bikinis on my feet Grin--

MarshaBrady · 24/06/2014 08:31

Ha! I've got the James Perse dress on.

OP posts:
Annianni · 24/06/2014 08:38

I'm not dressed yet lazy

Whoever came up with the feet/bikini phrase should be shot.
I've been living in my black studded gigis.
Not worn my silver yet this year, need a bit of a tan first.
