My turn......

OP posts:
Blackduck · 23/05/2014 14:26

MI Grin

I occasionally get hauled along to dps (infrequent) do's - as I am kind of in the same line of work I usually find someone I can bitch to :) Spent an interesting evening next to the head of estates last time....

hattymattie · 23/05/2014 15:38

MI Grin point taken - doubt you'll find any fancy French stuff has strayed that far up north yet.

Herbs - but you were wearing Viv Westwood so you must have looked dead posh at your corporate do.

I occasionally have to do these things in French and they are totally awful and I have no idea about the social etiquette.

originalpiratematerial · 23/05/2014 16:47

Thanks for telling us a bit more about the India trip, mi - it sounds great Smile.

bigTillyMint · 23/05/2014 16:54

Not looking forward to driving up north in half an hour or so. Even if it is in our new car.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 23/05/2014 17:28

Did the fucking exam. The best I can say is that I finished it, several people didn't. I don't want to know my result, I just don't care now. Skived off afterwards, went to the cinema and then for a late lunch. ON MY OWN.

Have torrential period and diarrhoea. But now home, slumped on the sofa with a cup of tea and the Paw of Sympathy on my shoulder (yes; I know he would fall off if he wasn't using my shoulder to balance, but I like to think of it as his little pussily act of kindness).

Rosebag · 23/05/2014 17:29

One of my most spectacular faux pas had to be when DH took me along to an alumni dinner at his alma mater. I ended up seated next to the president of the college or some such important person…Lord someone or other.Conversation was going ok as he'd just become a grandfather and want to tell me all about that.I was thanking heavens, thinking "It's ok, I can do talking about babies…" DH was seated opposite a bit further down and was trying to gesticulate (subtly) that I should pass the port to the left. I didn't know what the hell he meant…we've never been invited back, needless to say.
Herbs can you get Westwood in a large size 14? I would love a Westwood.
BTM safe journey. Hope the traffic isn't too heinous.

motherinferior · 23/05/2014 17:30

I am gearing myself up to send an email about an impossible project repeating that it is impossible. Grin

Respect, MrsS.

Rosebag · 23/05/2014 17:31

MrsS it's over…treat yourself. Hope you feel better.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 23/05/2014 17:32

DD2 is meeting two of her third cousins for the first time next week (unfortunately DD1 is at school). Must draw her a family tree...

NUFC69 · 23/05/2014 18:15

Well done, MrsS, even if you feel like rubbish now - at least it is all over.

BTM, have a safe journey this evening; the weather is appalling here and there are awful traffic jams on the motorways (not wishing to put you off ...)

We're not completely heathen up here, MI; I am sure you will find some nice food somewhere. DH has just been telling me that it is the 90th birthday of the father of one of his cycling friends; her sister hasn't spoken to her in 30 years - so the sister is not coming to the family party for her dad. How can people behave like this? Life is far too short.

Thank goodness I no longer have to do corporate parties: we went to some wonderful dos over the years, including a week long trip to California where the wives had a limo at their disposal for our shopping trips, sightseeing etc. I do miss that kind of thing, but DH doesn't miss the non-stop travelling he used to do.

herbaceous · 23/05/2014 18:29

MI - Trip Advisor's recommendations do not look promising. A pie and mash shop is number four.

Rosebag - my VW dress is from her Anglomania range and is, to my eternal surprise, a size 10. I am not a size 10. Though where it's tightest, the ribcage, is where I'm smallest, IYSWIM. It easily accommodates my size 12-14 tits and arse.

Auriga · 23/05/2014 18:41

Well done MrsS, congrats on interview MI, congrats to all the offspring who've just finished exams (including my DD) and bon voyage BTM.

And get well soon Crem, MrsS, MI (this thread gets more like a ward round every day).

Rudy, why was today such an awful prospect?

I gave up a day of my leave to interview for a senior post but we couldn't appoint Sad. Two people who had confirmed their attendance didn't bother to turn up or send a message Angry. I've a good mind to contact their referees. That still left four but only one came close. Not an encouraging day.

We're setting off early tomorrow for our singing workshop & concert; starting to look forward to it now. DD singing a solo in Italian (a first for her) she's worked hard and it sounds amazing

Happy week-end

motherinferior · 23/05/2014 18:41

The Angel in Skipton has been recommended to my mum. It doesn't look too awful. Or there is Bolton Abbey, right near where we'll be, but that's got v mixed reviews from the nationals...

Rosebag, I knew I was right to avoid those dos. Did you sit there happily tipping port into your glass repeatedly?

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 23/05/2014 18:42

DH is out tomorrow night, DD1 is camping, so it is DD2 and me, with London on our doorstep. I suspect we will slump on the sofa with a pizza in front of the TV.

motherinferior · 23/05/2014 18:57

I may hit the bright lights of Aldi tonight. The fact it sells booze will help lure me there.

Blackduck · 23/05/2014 18:59

Here it's me and the hound tonight as dp has taken ds to his parents and his mother insisted he stay the night.... I am slumped on the bed contemplating whether to go up the pub, but every time I think 'yes, do it' it lashes down with rain again.....
Safe driving BTM.

What did you see at the flicks MrsS?

Rosebag · 23/05/2014 19:09

We have our Friday night quasi religious rituals. Usually me cooking and everyone else carrying on as normal and being on their mobiles instead of quiet prayer and worship.
Hoping that we can re locate Dad's birthday tea to their flat instead of the coming here tomorrow so it won't get cancelled. He's more and more housebound, so if the mountain won't come to Mohammed….

Mother lol... I'm not much of a drinker actually but my sin was not to follow the ritual of pouring for the person on my right and passing to the left. Confused Presumably I got the weird backwards handshake wrong as well. Mea culpa...

Shavua tov Rose. Hope your pa rallies for his birthday.

I am flat on the floor- in order to calm the electric shock leg. I am so full of pills I rattle . Confused
Dh says I'm a bit bonkers high.
I have a Erasure ear worm going on too. Apologies if I have passed it on.Sad

Rudy hope you can have a lovely weekend in spite of worries.Smile

MI looks quite pleasant

motherinferior · 23/05/2014 22:12

Cor, I'm watching Working Girl and it's so....eighties. And just how out of it is Melanie G?

motherinferior · 23/05/2014 22:14

Sodding phone.

Rudy, I'm sorry about the row. We row a lot and I hate it. I always get the impression you two get on very well most of the time.Envy

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 23/05/2014 22:44

I loved Working Girl. "I have a head for business and a bod for sin." Or something like that. How can I remember that and not all the shit I had in my exam today?

I saw The Love Punch today - I only went because a raft of my friends were extras in it, when we lived in Paris. However, I didn't manage to spot any of them , and the film, despite the good cast, was dire.

I like Erasure. Their first hit reminds me of being very happy, living in London, just before I moved to Poland.

Rosebag · 24/05/2014 09:56

Ah Cremola thats nice…We are continuing the sabbath in our usual irreligious way…iPods, computers,TV, piano playing, shopping and arguing. Business pretty much as usual. Going to ice Pa's cake [hopeful emoticon]
MI good luck with Skipton birthday venue.
Auriga Enjoy singing both you and your DD. We should talk voice some time…
BTM hope you got there ok.

NUFC69 · 24/05/2014 09:59

Where is everyone today? I hope BTM and MI get to (got) to their destinations ok. It's miserable here again, so when DGS comes for his overnight stay we're going to catch the bus into Newcastle and go to JL for our free coffee and cake, which he will love. Then we will have a Chinese takeaway later (no wonder I only lose a lb a week).

We have tried the salted caramel green tea, QQ; I like it but DH thinks he would only drink a cup of it a day, unlike redbush which he can drink all the time.

MrsS, I hope you're feeling more upbeat today. I too liked "Working Girl" - Melanie Griffiths is currently in Hawaii Five-O on Sky 1. She still has the most amazing figure, but I can see that she has had work done on her face - wish I had her body, though (she probably works at hers).
