I have been invited to another school reunion for the local grammar I went to up until 16. There was an informal reunion for our year group in London last year and the organisers said they wanted to fix up something local to the school for this summer. Trouble is a) it clashes with the 20th birthday party bash which is being held for the first school that both dcs attended (camping on school field optional) and b) it's a black tie do. Back last year, before I realised it was going to be a formal dinner, I rashly said I would definitely go to the reunion.
Damn. I have never been to a black tie thing, I don't do dressing up, dh has no suit, no wish to dress up, no interest in formal dinners and definitely no interest in being involved with any of the above merely to meet a bunch of people I was at school with 30 years ago and their partners. Why "black tie"???
Anyway, I'm going to have to grit my teeth and tell the organisers I'm not going to this one, which I feel a bit bad about, for various reasons.

Rudy. Very glad you're not going to the US of A. Didn't sound like there was much in it for you.

Is it this dress? I think that's mine, though thought it had a different name when I got it. And mine was cheaper...

Stropps - just apologise and say it clashes with another appointment. It's bound to happen. And the other sounds more fun. I am not a fan of black (or white) tie events.

Morning all. I am drugged up and fuzzy.
Stropps go to the one you want to go to. Black tie is a dreadful faf. You saw them all last year anyway , so it's not like there'll be much more to yak about.Grin
Rudy I am delighted the American Incident has been put to bed and you have made up with dh.

Thanks for all the good wishes. Having had peritonitis following a botched embryo transfer, I can say that the pain was actually worse than that. The paramedics were lovely , but that may have been the gas and air.

Happy safe and restful bank holiday weekend to all of you.

Crepey Town.

Glad you are feeling less in pain, Crem. Don't let anyone lay a finger on you until after your MRI scan.

So glad to hear you had a good time having "just the one", MI. Grin

Crem and MrsS, yes, when you put it like that that I don't know what I'm fussing about really. Except I do - it's me trying to please everyone, as usual. Must just remind self that I am not responsible for the happiness of the reunion organisers and make my apologies.

Just a bit of S&B news: I have had a rosacea flare-up and none of the usual methods were working to settle it, so I indulged in some Rosealiac Serum from Laroche Posay. It does indeed appear to be the business. In the course of a convo with dh just now I mentioned that I was applying a serum. His response: "A "serum"?? You have been reading too much Marvel". Grin

I am so bloody cold I've googled short breaks to Nice and Amalfi - I liaised with DH who said yes, fine, but what if there's a volcanic ash incident and dd can't get back for her exams? He's right isn't he, I know in my heart he is :(.

Laughing at serum = Marvel. It sounds fun in DH's head Stropps.

Rudy sorry the jeans didn't work for you. Did you size down? That's what worked for me.

Crem sending soothing vibes for your agony.

Well I went and had a nice walk around Holborn. Could have done with having DD2 with me to get into Coram's Fields (it used to be called "The Foundling") as you could only get in if you had a child with you - I used to be despatched there "to enjoy myself" when my mother and great gran used to hit the sherry. I also bought two books from Persephone Books, which is in the same street where my great gran lived (the whole area is now chichi beyond belief, but every so often you catch a glimpse of something that hasn't changed, which is reassuring).

Then I decided to jump on the first bus that came. Unfortunately it only went to Oxford Circus. I went to have a cup of tea in M & S and ended up with three (3, III) bras in the sale. Absolutely bargainous, I have a bright red one, a white one and a purply flowered affair, all three for £23. Giddy with success, I went to the shoes and bought two pairs of shoes in the sale as well. There was nothing that appealled in the clothes - all very beige. Why can't they go back to their good basics - cotton jumpers in a range of colours, good white cotton shirts, smart, good quality work trousers?

I am now slumped on the sofa with a glass of white, listening to 1.fm Always Christmas, with the cat next to me. And a still empty house. Smile

I am extremely jealous of Rudy buying clothes and finding they were too big. Envy

Am sorry about the Rosacea Mrs S but glad it's going down.

All of London seems a bit chi chi nowadays Mrs S - except Putney High Street which is as foul as ever but if we are talking shoes I hope you are all braced for the sheer beauty and elegance of these:

I have the world's ugliest sandals these - but oh my god are they comfy for walking around town and sightseeing. And mine were only £25 in TK Maxx.

I used to live in Putney years ago - used to share a flat near the river in my yoof. It had little to recommend it then, shops and restaurant wise.

I like a pair of fugly sandals for the summer!

Crem, glad something is in motion to help you even if you are still suffering as we speak. Hope Tuesday doesn't feel too far away.

Yes to prosecco! Am lolling about with a glass in my hand right now - while dh makes supper (roast chicken) in the kitchen next door and keeps asking me questions - still a lot better than actually cooking it! He thinks having to cook merits opening a bottle of fizz - perhaps I should adopt his approach Monday to Friday?

Nice dress! VW is such a good choice - lovely but never in / out of fashion iyswim.

Am planning to watch episodes of Happy Valley on iplayer later... can anyone recommend / warn me off it?
