Not impressed with products - spill all!

Are there any products you've bought which you just think that was a waste of bloody time and money?!

Now I love Bobbi Brown but this product - Rose Shimmer Brick has done NADA for me doesn't add any colour to my face nor use as an eyeshadow. In fact it's put me off these types of shimmery stuff.

Anyone else got anything they weren't impressed with?! Smile

L'Oreal extraordinary oil. Probably achieve the same effect by sticking wet fingers in the plug socket.

nikkihollis · 22/03/2014 20:01

Nearly all Origins products make my skin sore.

Dior Nudeskin Foundation makes me look exhausted/ill.

Aussie shampoo/conditioners smell too strong and make my scalp sore and itchy.

Bumble & Bumble hair products all disappointing and the texturising ones feel claggy and dirty

Nars Orgasm Blush - meh. Nothing special.

Benefit High Beam - makes you look like you have psoriasis unless blended to within an inch of its life.

Saturday22 · 22/03/2014 20:35

Ignore me, using thread to test my name changeSmile

Lizzabadger · 23/03/2014 07:33

Molton Brown bath products. Give me Waitrose Essentials Tangerine and Ginger any day.

Dawndonnaagain · 23/03/2014 12:01

Smashbox primer. Meh.

Stokey · 23/03/2014 12:28

Has anyone mentioned Benetint yet?

Always leaves weird lines on my cheeks & just a bit weird rubbing what looks like food dye on to your skin.

GingerLemonTea · 23/03/2014 12:57

Sell them on ebay. There is good resale value for the pricier brands that have been tried once or twice.

AuntieMaggie · 23/03/2014 13:49

Any mascara apart from Rimmel and No7 Fanomenal especially the Mac one that smudged and flaked everywhere and the Max factor one everyone on here raves about but irritated my eyes and gave me a cyst on my eyeball!

BB creams - too oily.

Urban Decay naked 3 palette (though a MNer is helping me learn to love it)

Agree about Benefit apart from their blushers - love them. Benetint and its friends are crap (though I did have a brown version about 10 or so years ago that was good to add a bit of colour to your foundation... they don't do it now).

I love the BB shimmer bricks - I have 3 that I use on my cheeks and as eye shadow.

HelloBoys · 23/03/2014 14:18

Stokey and AuntieMaggie - Benetint I like (Cha Cha Tint) but have to rub in very quickly and combined with Maybelline Dream Mouse Blusher.

This is a great thread, getting lots of ideas about what to avoid, which is handy as I need to replace most of my make up so am thinking of asking for some bits and pieces for my birthday in a couple of weeks.

I spent a fortune on Clinique, really wanted to like it, but most of it was a waste of money and did nothing for me. The facial wash bars dried out my skin and even though my skin is not particularly sensitive, the clarifying lotion feels too harsh, like it is stripping all the moisture away. Seemed ok when I was 19/20 but not now.

YSL Touche Eclat is ok but no better than cheaper alternatives like the Aldi highlighter concealer.

francesdrake · 23/03/2014 14:29

Chanel nail varnish - without exception the worst varnishes I own. Chip instantly even with proper base/top coat. Colours are nice but not worth it for the rage every time you glance down and think, "This, for £18?!?!".

Maybelline gel liner/brush - recommended by Lisa Eldridge as being as good as the expensive brands: it's not. Impossible to get a nice fine line with the brush and it dries up just as fast as the Bobbi Brown one. (Possibly because it is the Bobbi Brown one? Can't remember who owns who anymore...)

Nars Multiples - just made me look grubby

BB Shimmerbrick - just made me look as if I'd dipped my face in the chip pan

Liz Earle hair oil - instant greasiness

Boots No7 foundation so-called tester - dear No7 lady, I want a foundation that'll cover up my redness, not a foundation that will match the rest of my face to its reddest part, thanks.

cocobongo · 23/03/2014 14:57

Anything by Boots No 7. Somehow over the years I have kept returning to it, due to the £5 vouchers / 3 for 2 / free gifts. And I am always disappointed, the stuff is rubbish. Last time I succumbed was to the foundation which is apparently matched to your skin tone- well, my skin must be a sort of orangey shade then!

rookiemater · 23/03/2014 15:14

Sugarmice I used to be friendly with someone who worked on the cosmetics counters. Apparently Clinique in North America is marketed at a younger market so the face bars and harsh toner are more suitable for teens - twenties skin. She reckoned Clarins was good for a more mature skin - have to say that I really rate the Clarins Blue Orchid oil which someone slated here.

HelloBoys · 23/03/2014 15:20

francesdrake and cocobongo - yes, if EVER I've tried makeup (hardly ever) by No. 7 have been VAIR disappointed so steer well clear. Also their claims about that colour match foundation seemed far fetched and as for the stupid voice on the colour match ads saying 'ta da!' like it's the fountain of youth, well she can F off! Grin No-one should sound that smug with themselves about a foundation!!!

BUT, (and I get it when I have 5 GBP off vouchers, too dear otherwise) their moisturising body oil wash is lovely.... very lush.

Oh higher priced stuff - don't like MAC Gel Liners - found hard to work with and I think dried out quickly.

I also find texture of some MAC lipsticks (frost especially) and eyeshadow to be quite harsh for a premium priced product.

Shu Uemura used to be great quality until the bastards discontinued loads of colours including my faces! GRRRR

Chottie · 23/03/2014 19:32

Boots No 7 foundation, I posted about this on another forum and it turned out we were all advised the same shade!?!

Bumble and Bumble shampoos did not suit my hair. I took them back to JL and got a refund

Estee Lauder mascara made my eyes itch, I took it back to Boots and the assistant just shrugged her shoulders, so EL is off my list permanently

Touche Elat did not work for me either, just a greasy smudgey goo

BB Gel eye liner I could not get the technique at all.....

SilkStalkings · 23/03/2014 19:41

Benefit Bad Gal mascara (which someone has rated below!) - the brush is too big and round to reach the very important outer corner lashes properly. Not fit for purpose IMO.

bouquetofpencils · 23/03/2014 20:18

Agree a lot of Boots No 7 is nothing special. I use the 5 pound vouchers on the nail polish which is better than Chanel polishes IMO.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 23/03/2014 21:15

I agree too about No 7 for a lot of things, but some of their mascaras are OK, my default neutral eyeshadow is a No 7 one and their eyeliner pencils are good. Nail polishes are a very uninspiring r=colour range.

THey have a nice handscrub which I sometimes buy with my vouchers.

I've never tried the MAC or BB gel eyeliners, but I do like the Maybelline one, I use a flat slanted brush and a very fine pointy one to get into the outer corners, not the one it comes with which was crap.

HelloBoys · 23/03/2014 22:18

Silkstalkings if you find brush on Bad Gal too big then you're prob like me, smallish eyes which do better with trial size mascaras - sometimes they give them out free if you ask especially if buying other stuff. Try Ysl faux cils that brush is easier to use too.

Also I've got sample size Bad Gal with freebie with magazine and that's perfect size. Just stock up on the mags with the freebie!

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. Its like Lion ointment. Horribly sticky. Even if you mix it with moisturiser, its still really sticky.

slightlysnippy · 23/03/2014 22:36

Benefits dandelion face powder.
Clarins beauty flash balm- out of interest does anyone think it's good?

slightlysnippy · 23/03/2014 22:42

HappyAs i do like 8 hour cream as a lip balm. Also use on kids to sort out their chapped lips and sore noses when they have the cold, we're up north so the fact it stays on for the whole walk to school is handy. Smile

thriftychic · 23/03/2014 23:20

Kiehls ultra facial cleanser , love their other products but this dried my face up so much it felt like it would crack.

Clarins blue orchid oil , did nothing but give me spots and i never get spots !

lancome teint miracle corrector , made my skin itchy

jo malone lime basil and mandarin cologne , smells like a cross between cat piss and bathroom cleaner on me

hollyisalovelyname · 24/03/2014 00:11

Frizz ease- it didn't.
