Not impressed with products - spill all!

Are there any products you've bought which you just think that was a waste of bloody time and money?!

Now I love Bobbi Brown but this product - Rose Shimmer Brick has done NADA for me doesn't add any colour to my face nor use as an eyeshadow. In fact it's put me off these types of shimmery stuff.

Anyone else got anything they weren't impressed with?! Smile

Oil based skin cleansing anything.

ihatethecold · 21/03/2014 09:16

Mac mascara, made my eyes sting.
Mac foundation, made me orange. ( I have olive skin)
Babyliss big hair, load of shite.

I do love my 8 hour cream though, and Clinique all about eyes. Gets rid of my dark circles.

Nellymay · 21/03/2014 09:26

And there was so me thinking it was just me that couldn't agree with all this beauty and hair stuff that I succumb to buying and chuck it out after a few goes at it - you've salved my guilt at regularly filling the bedroom waste bin up with full bottles and container of stuff! Why o why do we do it??? :) :)

santamarianovella · 21/03/2014 09:56

I would like to add Laura mercier products, too heavy and shiny, the bronzer is horrible,

Puddles I love love nars multiples,i dont like to use much makeup, and it gives me this instant natural glow,I always get complements when I use it.

AntoinetteCosway · 21/03/2014 10:03

'T'is possibly a MN myth but I've seen on here that Chanel make Bourjois, and the only difference is the pot,'

Actually, Bourjois own Chanel rather than the other way around!

ZaraW · 21/03/2014 12:07

Philip Kingsley Elastasicizer I tried it years ago for my thick and frizzy hair and it did nothing. After reading rave reviews on S&B I bought it again and it was not great. I now use coconut or Waleda rosemary oil cheaper and my hair loves it.

squoosh · 21/03/2014 12:11

Bourjois do own Chanel but I don't buy the 'same product, different bottle' line. I hate Bourjois foundations. HATE them.

HelloBoys · 21/03/2014 12:54

Glad everyone likes the thread.

If anyone wants to swap stuff too that is good too. Makeupalley do that - they have a swap area but quite USA based.

There must be lots of other things I dislike...

I've never seen the point in expensive eye creams or face creams (apart from Clinique Super Defense) but in recent years have changed to something like Avene with no SPF and just add Nuxe SPF30 or L'Occitane SPF40 sunscreeen on top, then I get my higher sunscreen and a nice moisturiser.

Oh wait - any or most fake tans... the vast majority of them are awful.

am so glad to see Benefit they're real on here-- actually thought it was just me or that I bought a bad batch or something..... was useless!

HelloBoys · 21/03/2014 13:13

oh oh I forgot - not me tested it.

Benefit They're Real, last summer a good friend of mine (and a fan of Benefit) tested some in-store and bought it. She was the same as the rest of you who'd tested it, I think it smeared or flaked and I remember her telling me how disappointed she was. she hated it!

Don't like Liz Earle night cream (present) as smells rank and there is a TINY amount in a sizeable pot.

So bought the Aldi one people rave about and rave I have not.

So I'm going back to E45.

Quite like Liz Earle make up though, partly because there's a limited range and I don't have to think too hard Smile.

Lorelilee · 21/03/2014 14:09

Another vote for Liz Earle C&P - really harsh on my skin - I now use Superdrug Vit E and it's great.

Avon new weird mascara - nearly blinded myself.

Chanel Rouge Noir - very thin and streaky, chips easily.

But I LOVE Beauty Flash Balm - think the secret is in the application.

bouquetofpencils · 21/03/2014 15:12

Just bought a bourjois lip crayon. Useless. Greasy like Vaseline, hardly any colour, wears off instantly.

AntoinetteCosway · 21/03/2014 16:43

squoosh I'm 99% certain they're not the same. Companies do share sciencey stuff but there's no way they just put the same products into different bottles.

HelloBoys · 21/03/2014 16:50

Lorelilee - isn't it a pain when something £££ like the Rouge Noir is not only thin and streaky but chips easily! and then I get a friend telling me the Rimmel stuff is just as good... GAH!

The Beauty Flash Balm IIRC can be used 2 ways - 1 as a flash if you're tired etc and the other as a deep moisturising leave on mask. Personally I loved it when I was 17 or so and it first came out but in recent years I've just been sort of impressed but not majorly.

I've just ditched the Superdrug Hot cloth cleanser in favour of LE's version, and it works better on my skin... but not my bank balance!

rookiemater · 21/03/2014 16:53

bikerunski so agree on the L'oreal perfect blur, the only way it would have made me look any better is if I'd smeared it on my eyelids and then looked at myself in the mirror.

I ve been battling with one of those little Bourjouis blushers.
It just won't give any pigment.
It's gone all hard and shiny.

Same brush with Nars blusher or even Bourjouis bronzer and no problem at all.
Love their foundation, hate those blushers.

rockpink · 21/03/2014 17:02

All the John Frieda red bottled stuff for damaged hair. Makes me hair look dull and sticky.

John Frieda used to do a beach blonde range which was amazing, the cool dip shampoo and conditioner were the best ever, sheer blonde funky chunky texturiser did the job and the best ever heat activated beach blonde lightening gel, never understood WHY they discontinued that truly magnificent range Sad

bouquet - if they have samples there I tend to test them - eg use on skin/face and leave on, if it comes off, or I don't like it then no loss.

Once when I was there when the makeup company rep (or Boots SA) was restocking the shelf I was umming and aahing over the testers and which colour, she kindly gave me 2 small size testers. They're very good for on the move and it's a shame they don't sell them that size.

McFox · 21/03/2014 17:08

I forgot about that new Avon mascara - not only is it hard to use and dangerous to eyeballs, the top came off in my make up bag and everything got covered. PITA.

Also, anything by Olay - it did such terrible things to my skin (it peeled off in strips!) that they gave me hush money. I shall be hushed no longer.

coffeeinbed · 21/03/2014 17:14

I did scrape at it.

With a teaspoon. Blush
Ended up with bloody blusher all over my trousers.

squoosh · 21/03/2014 17:17

Baked blushers are a pain.
