Styles you don't admire?

First of all I apologise for the title of this post, I couldn't think of a better way to explain it! Do you have a style that is popular at the moment that you absolutely loathe ? The reason I ask this is because, today I have been out in my local town and noticed a lot of women wearing a certain type of look, but not sure how to describe it. Quilted fitted jackets, tightish or bootleg jeans, some sort of boots, animal print scarf, designer handbag and gold jewellery. I'm really not keen on this look, but they might not be keen on mine, so each to their own! Just wondered if anyone else feels this way about certain looks?

Totally agree, Awks. Any manner of fake layering is just wrong. How bloody hard is it to put a jumper on top of a tee shirt?!

tethersend · 28/02/2014 22:02

Wedge trainers- all the comfort of a high heel with all the sartorial elegance of a trainer.

Hang on.

Awks · 28/02/2014 22:04

I bet all of us are Alexa Chung incarnate Grin

CointreauVersial · 28/02/2014 22:06

The high-waisted jeans/shorts thing. I remember them from the 1980s. Jeans with a fly zip about a foot long. Ghastly.

scottishmummy · 28/02/2014 22:06

Think not,she's a styleless midden

I hate the faux grunge. Mainly, I admit, because it makes me feel very very old. I'm 29, stuff I wore as a teen should not be trendy again already.

Pastels. Just yucky wishy washy non-colours.

Casmama · 28/02/2014 22:18

This thread is hilarious- agree about Alexa Cheung. I clearly have no fashion sense as I generally think WTF when seeing pictures of impossibly fashionable people.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2014 22:25

Funnily enough the biggest doughnut buns I've seen tend to be at the airport - I'd swear the Ryanair staff compete to see who can get the fattest asshole on their heads. But it's spread to the passengers - it's like airport chic!

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2014 22:26

Oh and I have frequently seen the giant ass-bun paired with onesies or PJs in the airport

McFox · 28/02/2014 22:28

Alexa Chung always looks like she's fallen into a bag of charity shop rejects to me!

JustLikeHeaven · 28/02/2014 22:29

Smartypants. . Wondering what city you are in. I am in Dublin and those disgusting cut out safety boot type shoes are everwhere. Then again I am on spring chicken so assume it's part of getting older to hate 'young wans' shoes

I also think denim shorts and black tights should be outlawed. . And those stupid flippin fringes that start somewhere at the back of the head and sweep across the face covering one eye. . . Which they continuously flick

Grumpy old cow aren't I?

BrennanHasAMangina · 28/02/2014 22:36

Lululemon yoga clothes worn everywhere. The Canadian mom's go-to uniform. Ok YES, they're as comfy as pyjamas, but I've had enough now and I want everyone to start wearing proper clothes again. That'll do Lulu, that'll do.

Apatite1 · 28/02/2014 22:37

Trainers outside the gym, esp on older women trying to look young. Nikes, converse etc who are you fooling?

Playsuits are for children.

Bowler hats. You're not Charlie Chaplin.

Just because you're tall and skinny, it doesn't mean you automatically look good in any damn thing. No, you can't wear eight different prints at once, plus a large neon handbag.

WhereIsMyHat · 28/02/2014 22:42

I think I hate bowler hates more than I hate wedge trainers which is an awful lot.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/02/2014 22:44

I'm buggered. I wear skinnies, Converse, scarves, shorts (but not denim ones), AND I'm not a young un anymore.

Adds bowler hat and curlers to shopping list. Grin

Felix90 · 28/02/2014 22:51

Those high waisted 'disco pants' from American apparel, and also their cheaper baggy counterparts.

Kitten heels make me shudder.

waterlego6064 · 28/02/2014 23:01

Bowler hats? Are people are wearing bowler hats in earnest?

Awks · 28/02/2014 23:03

Bowler hats? I can genuinely say I've never, ever seen those anywhere.

But have seen these in Boden catalogues and have shielded my eyes and thought who actually would wear that

Who has seen their 'look' on this thread Grin Hmm

Me - tea dresses, cardigans, boots

tethersend · 28/02/2014 23:07

To be fair, the things I wear are slagged off on here on a daily basis...

I care not Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2014 23:07

I wear skater dresses - they suit me! I have a small waist to show off and a fat arse and hips to hide [needs a wincing face]

LaurieFairyCake · 28/02/2014 23:08

And I bought my first onesie last week tethers

I look right fuckwitted in it - it's like a babygro!

WhereIsMyHat · 28/02/2014 23:09

Bowler hat examples rankingtons

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2014 23:13

No bowlers, but can I keep my collection of cloche hats? I like a good hat!
