All great movies. I love watching films. Have passed this on to Dcs. Can't choose one fav though.

santamarianovella · 06/12/2013 22:15

linus I love 80s movies, one of my friends at school was American and she introduced me to all those 80s great movies, sixteen candles,
pretty in pink ,breakfast club..etc, think the 80s was a great time to be a teenager, OMG! Does anyone remember desperately seeking Susan? I saw it in 96, and fell in love with gold jacket! Still think its great Grin

Drywhiteplease · 06/12/2013 22:25

They were called "The brat pack" films, loved them Santa

libertychick · 06/12/2013 22:47

I loved all the brat pack films. My fave film is The Shawshank Redemption. If I have a cold and am curled up on the couch I always watch Dirty Dancing!!

Grumpy that top is fantastic - have pinned. Really want it

Santa (((hugs))) The school issue makes it so difficult...agree with Marsha your Mum sounds great. Keeping quiet for a day or two sounds wise.

Marsha and Shop have fun tomorrow - wish I could join but alas a day of chores and working awaits.

Drywhiteplease · 06/12/2013 23:09

liberty my name change would be "I brought the watermelons"!!!!Grin
Dirty dancing is my ultimate cheesy movie! can recite it!!!!
Forest Gump is one of our family favorites too.
Love thrillers, romance, quirky Brit films, any oscar winner, drama, period drama, mafia movies.......comedy is usually a let down. Can't stand US romcoms ESP with J Anniston in them. Loathe horror . Not mad keen on SciFi.
Think Leonardo Di Capprio is a brilliant actor.
Love any Tom hanks for family viewing.

libertychick · 06/12/2013 23:16

It's a total guilty pleasure isn't it Dry!

Drywhiteplease · 06/12/2013 23:17

Think it's a DVD I need to invest in for old times sake Grin

OneLittleLady · 06/12/2013 23:22

I have fond memories of all us children dancing round the front room to the dirty dancing soundtrack with Mum when we were younger. Have never much cared for the film even though I've seen it loads of times but I love the soundtrack

LinusDKD · 07/12/2013 06:51

Morning!

That PB top is lovely grumpy, I also saw it on The Frugality Blog. Let me know what it's like IRL as I am very tempted.

Today we are going to buy our Christmas tree and decorate it! Yay!

We're only going to buy a small one this year that we can put on top of a low cupboard as DD is sure to want to touch the baubles.

Oh and we'll also buy a poinsettia, it really symbolises Christmas for me.

AmberNectarine · 07/12/2013 07:43

My all time favourite film is Roadhouse. Patrick Swayze topless and fighting. What's not to like?

QueenCadbury · 07/12/2013 07:59

I'm about to go on my style day. As it's only me I'm making full use of it and have packed a huge bags of clothes. hopefully will wonder why she's let herself in for Grin.

Christmas trees arrived last night so we will decorate tomorrow. The one for the living room is absolutely massive. Just hoping I have enough baubles for it!

Also love the 80s films. My bf and I used to spend hours watching pretty in pink, ferris buellers day off and room with a view. I attempted to dye my hair red before going to uni and on sun bleached hair it turned pink. Apparently I looked like Molly ringwald. Room with a view gave me an obsession with going to Florence and I finally went 8 years ago and wasn't disappointed. Did anyone see WIT post with her view of the Duomo fom her house. I am very Envy.

LinusDKD · 07/12/2013 08:18

Roadhouse! Gosh , that reminds me I used to fancy that silver fox Sam Elliott!

That's why I also watch The Big Lebowski (DH's favourite film) because he has a small role in it.

That hair, that moustache, that voice!

Have fun queenc!

MarshaBrady · 07/12/2013 08:35

Dry I love Leonardo di Caprio, great actor, Very good in The Great Gatsby, adore his accent in it.

shopafrolic · 07/12/2013 08:53

Umlauf · 07/12/2013 09:21

OOh speaking of lovely Leo, we watched Shutter Island again here last night, he really is brilliant. I remember practising snogging on a poster of him after he'd been in titanic that came free with Mizz magazine! Blush

Wish we'd seen the Great Gatsby in 3D, Dh gets 3D-induced headaches Angry

Drywhiteplease · 07/12/2013 10:07

Have a great time ladies x

Mignonette · 07/12/2013 10:14

Hello.

Santa I feel for you but if its any consolation (although i can only speak subjectively) I moved around the World as a child and it has enriched my life beyond measure. Sometimes I don't feel 'British', sometimes I get these odd yearnings (almost like deja vu) that I cannot explain but on the whole the disruption took its toll on my parents and not on me. I have damage from my childhood but its not from the world travel!

My favourite film is anything from the Deep South so I'm with you on that one. My other nickname is Kudzu Girl amongst my friends so obsessive am I. I love steamy, southern landscapes, iced tea, Spanish Moss and all that (ugly) history. I went to see The Butler last week and was in heaven -and cried a lot. Oprah is magnificent!

My DH adores Roadhouse but not because of the sweaty uncovered torso of Patrick I hasten to add. He also loves Point Break.

I have met Molly Ringwald BTW. She lived in Paris when she was younger and I bumped into her and waffled on at her for a few gushy minutes!

I saw that Lacroix top too Grumpy. Glad to see him designing.

We got our trees last night. Took daughter who was buying her first tree and she went loopy with excitement at the light grotto and Christmas store. Drove home with a face full of pine branches and resulting rash as I react badly to Spruce sap. Trying to decide whether to get another tree for the middle room which looks a little unloved.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 07/12/2013 10:29

Do it Mig! We really go to town on the decorations and have trees in the sitting room and dining room, although dining room tree is decorated v simply, just festooned with white lights and a star on top but it makes all the difference. I go a bit mad in the kitchen too as I have a lit scandi-style ring that hangs from the ceiling with lots of candy-coloured baubles hanging from it as well as the multitude of decorations around the dresser and range recess. We are a bit Christmas OTT in this house - in fact I think it's only our bedroom and bathroom that escapes the clutches of the sparkle fairy.

I've spent a happy morning trying to buy my DBro's Secret Santa pressie from Hackett (20% off for over £150 - whoop!). My card kept refusing to go through, despite me calling my bank's security dept to convince them it was really me. I eventually gave up and used another card and, guess what - same thing (grr). Called second bank's security dept who unlocked my account and finally managed to get it to go through. I think my heavy online use this week has given them the heebie-geebies...but at least I have all my presents bought now, thank goodness.

Mignonette · 07/12/2013 10:39

Anything to escape the darkness of Winter Grumpy. The Scandi ring sounds beautiful.

We have Secret Santas to buy for and I normally go for good coffee/tea/food items for those that bake like pure Vanilla paste, good pasta etc.

Am going to fill window sills with cut branches of Fir and Holly with scattered lights and baubles.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 07/12/2013 10:42

Catching up on MiC and still wishing I was Phoebe (ie young, beautiful, feisty and with all the flair required to pull off some of her amazing fashion choices). I loved her last week in the black turban with bold red lips.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 07/12/2013 10:47

Sorry Mig - X Post.

Love the sound of your window sills. I love that deep green/white light combo. I bought the most lustrous wreath at DD2's school Christmas fair yesterday. One of the mothers makes them and they are very fulsome with fir, eucalyptus, holly etc. I paid £15 for it, but it looks many times more - I've seen comparable for £60.
Today is deccie day here too, but I get to take the horsebox to the garden centre to collect the trees - no pine-face for me! Xmas Wink

LinusDKD · 07/12/2013 11:52

mig did you see the boots I linked a couple of days ago to replace your Dr. Martens?
