HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

I like the sound of the rust coloured knitted dress. I have a couple of nice knitted jumpers, but holding ds2 all the time makes me too hot in them. The mannequins never have a baby hanging off there hip do they?

Speaking of babies. I was told to be more adventurous with fabrics. Put a silky top on underneath a chunky cardi yesterday and ds2 immediately puked on it. I had 5 mins if looking coordinated Grin

snowlie · 11/10/2013 15:12

My chest is too big for silk, my boobs move around in a giggly way...it's horrible.

CuriosityCola · 11/10/2013 15:28

Grin At giggling boobs. My boobs consist of a very padded bra.

I need to get an outfit for tomorrow and I'm starting to 'panic'. I would normally wear black skinny jeans, nice shoes and a top with some sparkle. What do autumn women wear out for dinner etc?!!! I can't cope with this much co-ordination. Smile

snowlie · 11/10/2013 16:23

Grin Gad, meant jiggle didn't I, numpty!

Whitecat · 11/10/2013 16:48

Giggling boobs sound much more fun.

Hopefully · 11/10/2013 17:12

Grin at giggling boobs.

Sorry late to reply Jemster
I am naturally chocolate brown, with reddish hues, and some grey now of course.
I have all over chocolate then scattered lowlights in caramel and copper.
Def no stripes though.

mrselgar · 11/10/2013 17:50

Can anyone tell me if I can dye a pale blue pure cashmere cardigan? I was thinking of a moss green..maybe.

Jemster · 11/10/2013 18:53

Thanks for the hair colour replies. What's the best way to tone down my highlights then - should I just get lowlights added? It really is looking brassy and quite block like as I've had a build up of so many. My natural brown hair underneath looks very different and quite glossy but I know if it was all that colour I would feel it looked drab.
Hair colouring is so expensive isn't it, I don't want to make a bad mistake.

Had a bit of a cheapo shop today and got a lovely long sleeve slouchy rust top from sainsburys, all my favourite autumn things seem to be from there at the moment Blush. Also got a teal tunic from primark, surprisingly good fabric and cut, although its too short for me to wear as a dress so will wear with brown skinnies.

Hopefully · 11/10/2013 20:11

mrselgar you can dye cashmere but remember to use a cold water hand dye, not a washing machine one which needs 40 degree temp to fix the dye, which is the perfect temp to shrink your cashmere. I've never tried it though.

charitygirl · 11/10/2013 20:51

My Sainsbury's is shit for shopping - all black, burgundy, and navy!

MotherOfSoupDragon · 11/10/2013 21:59

Same here Charitygirl.

CuriosityCola · 11/10/2013 22:05

I had a browse round next, river island, Dorothy Perkins and monsoon today. Really couldn't find anything in my colours. Ended up just buying a 'stone' coloured knitted cardi from RI.

Have ordered some teal skinny jeans from boohoo, so hopefully they will be a decent fit. Thinking of wearing them with cream blouse, chunky cardi and brown boots. Or dressing them up with high heels. Haven't seen a pair I like though. Decisions decisions.

MelanieCheeks · 11/10/2013 22:32

I had a bit of a splurge at the outlet mall today:

LK Bennett- Aubergine dress with swirly asymmetric skirt
Jaegar -beige jacket( been after a decent one for ages), jacket in black gold and stone, Grey trousers and oyster sleeveless shirt
Marks- coral marl skirt

mrselgar · 11/10/2013 22:37

Thank you Hopefully. I will give it a try. Fingers crossed.

Jemster · 12/10/2013 08:47

I was wondering, does everyone suit and really like every colour in their swatches? I'm trying really hard to look only for things that match the colours but there are some that I just don't like on me. I'm quite a reserved person and am not used to wearing yellowy colours, mustard, reds as I've always felt they are too bold for my personality.
Mustard just doesn't look quite right on me and so I think I would be self conscious wearing it.
Is it ok not to like all of our colours?

Hopefully · 12/10/2013 08:57

Of course it's ok Jem! I'm not a massive fan of the tans/beiges. I have the odd thing, but very little in those colours. I'm the opposite - they don't feel enough for my Dramatic clothing personality. There are some colours, though, which I initially disliked and when I finally forced myself to put them on, found I really got on with! Mustard is a case in point for me.

I am wearing an Isabella Oliver bright moss shirt dress, a big chunky brown leather pirate belt, brown opaques, camel suede ankle boots and teal accessories. Have a client coming in a bit so am actually wearing civilised clothes.

CuriosityCola · 12/10/2013 09:24

I don't really like (or own) many of the colours. It is weird being out of my clothing comfort zone. I have also never been a beige wearer.

I did just receive my new teal skinny jeans and I'm in love with them. Boohoo delivery service is amazing!

Should we be wearing warmer jewellery? Just realised that my stylist never mentioned it.

charitygirl · 12/10/2013 09:30

Casual for me today - in Hush long harems (note - they call the colour charcoal but its actually a chocolatey marl), long sleeve Tshirt in a greeny peacock. Will probably add olive cardy and a mustard infinity scarf later. And I suppose Ash Virgins but cannot role out possibility of very battered and dirty Adidas instead...

Hopefully · 12/10/2013 09:42

Curiosity on the whole autumns are advised to wear warm (i.e. gold, bronze, copper) jewellery, but some types (blue autumn) can do a mix of yellow and white metals. Don't flap about wedding rings though - it's more about bigger things that are actually visible, especially any necklaces/earrings, as they are next to our face. Chunky bangles etc also very visible.

CuriosityCola · 12/10/2013 10:09

Might just tell dh that I need new rings in a yellow metal to see his reaction Wink.

snowlie · 12/10/2013 10:23

Charity I need the low down on the harems - are yours current season? How long is long - I'm pretty tall and finally what's the sizing like?

charitygirl · 12/10/2013 10:35

Snowlie - they're last year, I'm pretty sure they don't change the cut, but they might not have charcoal in this yr. they're long enough I reckon - I'm 5'8" and the bottom of the ruched cuff is just on my ankle bone.

charitygirl · 12/10/2013 10:37

Sizing is pretty normal - I'm a 10-12 and am in the m-l for comfort. They've got a pretty good drawstring but still fall down a bit, so next time I'd get s-m.
