Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Thanks Smile I've ordered the eBay scarf in mustard. Couldn't see a photo of it in real unfortunately.

The only supermarket nearby is Sainsburys but they only have tshirts in black, white or grey.

I'll look for dye in Wilkinsons.

Seri77 · 10/10/2013 20:35

I've been looking at those scarves, Hopefully. If you've done HOC what colour/s is it most like?

New look and Dorothy Perkins also do reasonably priced tops, mother

snowlie · 10/10/2013 20:54

This dress is lovely, and there's a 20% off code kicking around if anyone is interested. JDGB2 valid till 25/10.

MotherOfSoupDragon · 10/10/2013 21:17

Thanks Zgeorgina, I'll take a look.

charitygirl · 10/10/2013 21:26

Oh yes there's definitely a warm looking mustard scarf in Zara ATM, I saw it yesterday. I've also bought the mustard ebay scarf - it's the new Mumsnet scarf clearly, but just for us autumns!

Am v disappointed that I finally bit the bullet and ordered expensive jacket below and...great colour, lovely 'fur' collar but 40% polyester (cheek at that price!) and too big around the hips (perfect across the back tho so no point sizing down). V grumpy as I thought it would be my dream jacket.

In brighter news, I really recommend the £9.99 deep teal v neck cardi in New Look right now - great colour, mainly cotton, and looks pricier than it is.

GeorginaWorsley · 10/10/2013 22:48

Am smiling at new mumsnet scarf being the mustard one!!
Will look out for fellow autumns!

CuriosityCola · 11/10/2013 05:33

Just had my colours done. I'm warm/soft. I have surveyed my wardrobe and realised I have nothing in the right colours for me. Any ideas on starting a wardrobe (capsule) from scratch?

Also on the hunt for a smart, but casual outfit for the weekend. I think I will be able to find a dress and pair it with thick tights and a cardi. No idea what colour shoes or jacket to buy though. My wardrobe is depressing.

Jemster · 11/10/2013 06:35

I was wondering what hair colour other Autumns have if you dye it or have highlights? I like to have highlights as I've got a few greys coming through. Natural colour is dark brown but greys becoming more frequent now.

I'm finding in the autumn/winter my highlights look a bit brassy and harsh and I think they are washing me out. Should I go for an all over colour and if so what colour? I prefer to be blonder rather than darker but I need to get the shade right. Any suggestions please?

GeorginaWorsley · 11/10/2013 07:26

Jemster,I have all over chocolate brown, with some honey and copper woven through.
In summer I have honey and blonde, but just had copper and blonde for autumn.
overall effect very warm, def no stripes either,my hairdresser good at natural scattered through look.

CuriosityCola · 11/10/2013 08:43

I have a warm brown colour. It's not really covering the grey though, so thinking of a change next week. Will see what hairdresser says. I have a lot of red tones in my hair so can't go too warm without looking brassy.

Jemster · 11/10/2013 10:18

Thanks Georgina. So is your natural hair choc brown or is it an all over dye? Do you ask for half head of highlights on top or is it less than that?

charitygirl · 11/10/2013 10:35

Am v pleased with my outfit today so had to share:

Teal jeggings (Villa Moda, currently £20 in Oliver Bonas, and v flattering).
Khaki vest
Chartreuse scoop neck long sleeve t
Deep olive round neck cardi - Uniqlo
Ash Alex wedges in beige.

Neon yellow scarf (works surprisingly well w chartreuse)

Am having a moderately social day with children and Feel casual but pulled together. Really it's just the fact the colours blend so beautifully. Hooray for colours!

DoYourKegels · 11/10/2013 10:39

Anyone ever used Vicky Everall from HoC?

DoYourKegels · 11/10/2013 10:39

Sorry, am a NC regular on this thread, previously bmcs. Hope to have colours done soon. Grin.

Hopefully · 11/10/2013 10:45

jemster if you have highlights I would make to sure ask the hairdresser to do them in golden/honey tones, rather than going too fair, to stop it looking brassy. Mine is natural, v v dark brown with a grey badger stripe developing nicely Grin

Cocochops · 11/10/2013 11:30

Morning all.

Like the eBay scarf can't really go wrong at that price think I will order(sheep alert)

Feeling better about style day now my wardrobe is bare but awaiting h and m order with a few basics. Think I will take on board some stuff but also I am getting more into blogs and pinterest etc to help me find my style. I really need to work on accessories I never wear belts or necklaces but these really seem to complete an outfit.

Charity love the sound of your outfit can you post a pic?

Hair mine is now light brown naturally. Stopped the highlights about 3 years ago as was tired of the maintenance after years of doing it hair had become very blond. Would love some honey caramel put through but not sure about the upkeep Would you have to get hem done as often do you think?

Boots need some flattish ankle boots to wear with skinnies or dress to walk miles with pram. Biker fit the bill I think but mainly in black considering getting a black pair ( Iknow I shoudn't!) or has anyone seen any good brown ones?

Rules · 11/10/2013 12:21

Jemster I was many years ago a dark warm brown hair colour naturally then I decided to go blond. Never looked back. It colour it a dark golden blond then add highlights. I look much younger as a blond (now that im older) and just feel better. I have always wanted to be blond, ever since I was a teenager.

Jemster · 11/10/2013 12:28

Rules yes I prefer being blonder but I find as I get paler in Autumn & Winter it doesn't look as good with my skin.
How do you colour it a dark golden blonde - do you do that yourself? What is the maintenance like and the cost if you don't mind me asking?
I sometimes wish I could just be happy with what I've got but we rarely are, are we?!!

Rules · 11/10/2013 12:33

I use Loreal hair colour and then use a medium lift highlight kit. Has worked for me for years and years. Whenever I have been to the hairdressers I feel my hair has always looked fake. I have been to a few.
I do it every six weeks so cost is hardly anything really. You have to know your hair though. Smile

CuriosityCola · 11/10/2013 13:19

Charity, that outfit sounds fab.

Coco, schuh had lots of brown ankle boots. There was a nice mix of biker style and ones that were slightly less chunky.

I have these ones from miss selfridge as they were a little cheaper. They look great with skinny jeans (lots of compliments and where did you get your boots from).

charitygirl · 11/10/2013 14:14

Thanks guys!

Cola - I am in love with my new brown boots. The link never seems to work, but if you go to the Office site and google Uncanny, you'll find them.

MotherOfSoupDragon · 11/10/2013 14:21

Just seen some brown biker style boots in Clarks window for £89.99.

Have managed to find deep teal long sleeves top at Select for £6, not bad, nice and long too, with scoop neck.

Feeling adventurous today, wearing a moss green blouse with black trousers to work. Usually I just wear black and white so feels really brave!

Rules · 11/10/2013 14:39

Are these the boots Charity

snowlie · 11/10/2013 14:52

I've just ordered some biker boots from Clarks with the 20% off code...I'm looking for a chunky boot with a good strong up turned toe, thick rubber sole in a dark brown shiny leather....I'm not having much luck - all the nice ones are black.

I like these do we think they are in the illusive lizard grey?

Today I'm wearing a rust slouchy knitted dress. A silk scarf in mustard, cream and dark brown. Dark brown tights and dark brown studded ankle boots with a dark brown trench.

And continuing on the dark brown theme....I am currently dying a grey cord mini skirt and a grey v neck cardy chocolate brown.

Struggling with a colour to dye my whistles jacket, don't want to ruin it, chickened out of brown and am now contemplating olive green. Confused
