HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

I have a pale grey knitted blazer I bought from whistles last year, can't bear to let go of it...but would dye work? I suppose it's got to be worth a try.

charitygirl · 09/10/2013 08:18

Snowlie - what's the fabric composition?

snowlie · 09/10/2013 09:15

Charity it's 96% cotton, 4% viscose - what d'ya think?

snowlie · 09/10/2013 09:40

Isn't this fab! Or is it just me. Blush

evelynj · 09/10/2013 10:42

That's completely fab snow lie, I love it!

There's a contact number for checking fabrics that dye on the dylon site

www.dylon.co.uk/help.html

I'm thinking of just giving it a go with some things-even a patterned number in the hope of achieving an abstract toned prnt?!

charitygirl · 09/10/2013 13:56

Cotton and viscose both dye perfectly - it'll look great!

charitygirl · 09/10/2013 13:57

Love that sweater - I wear tons of leopard print, and wd love a green version!

HoleyCow · 09/10/2013 14:24

Hi lovely ladies. Please find me a gorgeous, soft, woolly scarf in mustard for this winter. Thanks

Anyone know if a deep autumns same as dark autumn?

Whitecat · 09/10/2013 17:31

Hello fellow autumns, I was recently diagnosed as a Rich Autumn Leaf. Luckily my sporadic approach to colour in the past means I've got a quite a lot that fits my pallette. Like many of you I think dyeing will fill some gaps - might as well give it a go.
snowlie gorgeous jumper, I can see you being an expensive influence.
Does anyone know what 'Melody' means in relation to Rich Autumn Leaf? Its written on my book but I don't know what it means.

HoleyCow · 09/10/2013 19:24

evelynj that is lovely! Thanks for your help. It will be a birthday present so feeling more generous and applying the cpw (cost per wear) strategy and the "buy it right, but it once" policy (see how easily I can spend money), I would say up to about £50.

GeorginaWorsley · 09/10/2013 21:35

I've got that eBay scarf and it's great!
Wonderful ochre colour with teal,green,chocolate,raspberry.
Highly recommend

RockMummy · 09/10/2013 23:17

I've just bought it too. Hope it's as lovely as it looks. Thanks for the recommendation.

snowlie · 09/10/2013 23:46

I have this mustard polka Scarf from uniqlo....very feminine...not my usual choice but it's lovely - 100% silk, feels v luxurious.

Whitecat glad you liked the jumper - don't worry about expensive habits - it's investment shopping don't you know? Seriously though I have saved up for this post colour analysis splurge - my wardrobe before was looking pretty sparse. This winter in focusing on warm wool knitwear, last year was thermals and down coat.

Got a red cardy and a burnt orange cardy struggling to choose between them - both the same style, too expensive and samey to keep both. I'm leaning towards red.

snowlie · 09/10/2013 23:48

Holey the scarf link was for you - I know it's not woolly but silk is incredibly warm and very comfy able to wear.

GeorginaWorsley · 10/10/2013 07:30

Snow,id lean towards burnt orange myself, only because its such a difficult colour to find, red more ubiquitous somehow.

onlysettleforbutterflies · 10/10/2013 08:37

Holey there is a mustard scarf in Zara at the moment.

Hopefully · 10/10/2013 09:34

It's not mustard, but I've just got one of these in the paprika marl, and it's a gorgeous colour.

evelynj · 10/10/2013 09:57

I couldn't see a mustard scarf on on Zara site but I did think I'd seen one there previously. The kettlewell one may be good or there's a link unthread to a stories and more or something website with recommends.

Well yest I did the terracotta dye on quite a few bits. I decided against using the pre dye as this was a batch of stuff that I wasn't overly bothered about. So I used about 1kg worth of bits & happy with the results. My favourite results were things that were Coral/peachy coloured before & the darker bits tone quite well with the stuff that was White.

However, for the dark olive I think I'll stick closer to the correct weight ratio for depth of colour but I do plan to dye a crossover top that's emerald green with a White undertop attached so we'll see how that goes, (if it's not great the plan is I'll just cut out the undertop bit). Back to today for some of the hand dyes to rescue my cashmeres & woolies!

MotherOfSoupDragon · 10/10/2013 14:31

Wrote a message earlier, but it's not posted Sad

I'm fairly sure I'm an autumn (have looked at the Colour Me Beautiful book), I have mid to dark brown hair, fairly dark rich brown eyes and medium skin that tans a little (used to tan more as a child).

Sadly at the moment I don't have money to spare (dh unemployed), but I am looking on Ebay and planning for later. My wardrobe is full of grey, black, white ... No wonder I look washed out and terrible all the time.

I love olive greens and turquoises and browns.

Does it sound like I am autumn and any ideas for cheap and cheerful ways to improve my current wardrobe?

All my trousers and work skirts are black, at home I wear dark indigo jeans. I have one orange t-shirt, but don't like it much. Otherwise, all my t-shirts are grey or white or blue. I have a brown with turquoise flowers jersey dress that I love, but it's a summer dress, not much good now it's getting colder.

I'll try and put some photos on my profile.

I'm really grateful for any advice, as I'm feeling really down at the moment and would love to brighten things up a little without spending much Wink

QueenOfAllBiscuitsandMuffins · 10/10/2013 14:47

Was in dorothy perkins earlier, it says red but actually it's an exact match for rust on the autumn swatch spectrum. Gorgeous colour.

Red PU neck tunic

The fake leather piping is black but I think it's such a rich colour that much black gets lost.

GeorginaWorsley · 10/10/2013 17:26

Motherofsoupdragon
I'd say buy couple of scarves or even just one off eBay,there is a nice one linked to a few posts ago which I have and was about a fiver I think.
It has loads of lovely autumn colours in it which will lift your other stuff nicely.
Also, how about a packet of Dylon in a good autumn colour, maybe a kingfisher or an olive green.
You could do a couple of tops with that.
Also Primark have long sleeved tees for £3 ,I've got ones in a lovely rich green and a chocolate this year.

MotherOfSoupDragon · 10/10/2013 18:30

Thanks Georgina, I will have a look at the scarf. I can't often get to Peimark sadly Hmm

Will Dylon dye pale grey?

GeorginaWorsley · 10/10/2013 19:01

Yes will dye pale grey.
Unfortunately polyester stitching remains original colour though, but perhaps a slate grey dye would look better and stitching wouldn't clash?
Supermarkets such as sainsburys ,Tesco and Asda do cheap long sleeved tees also, but not £3 unfortunately .
