HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Hello fellow autumns! I was 'diagnosed' recently as a dark/blue autumn. Since then I've bought far too many a few autumny bits on eBay and from H&M, but it's a bit hit and miss at the moment.

DH has instructed me to make an amazon wish list for Christmas (have finally got to the end of this thread and there are so many things from it on there so thank you!), although I'm starting to think that asking for the style day instead might be a better idea! I suspect I would be a natural with ingenue and classic influences, but I'm not sure how that would translate into what I should be looking for when it comes to shopping.

I have been working on a pinterest board, but none of this stuff seems to help me when shopping. It is not helped by the fact that my budget isn't big and I tend to have to buy online or with a toddler in tow.

Still, loving being an autumn and the neutrals have been a revelation Grin

I've just started following this thread and love some of the suggestions / links. I'm an Autumn Leaf and love the colours but am currently breast feeding my 5 week old baby so am finding clothes shopping more difficult as ideally I need tops and dresses that have buttons for easy access. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

snowlie · 08/10/2013 07:20

Love your Pinterest board mummy.
Has anyone managed to find anything in a deep chocolate brown? There always seems to be too much yellow in the brown I find - I'm looking for one with a tinge of red.

MelanieCheeks · 08/10/2013 07:39

pinterest boards are a great source of inspiration (was it Holey asking about getting ideas for combinations?)

It's very easy to surf around Pinterest and quickly put together a board of things that you like, or just catch your eye. I've starting pinning new clothes that I buy, so that I can see at a glance what I have and can work out what I need.

mummybare · 08/10/2013 08:22

Thanks snowlie :)

georgie22, have you tried layering a top you can pull up over a vest top you can pull down? I found I ended up doing that when bfing DD rather than buying specific bfing tops - especially useful in the colder weather.

Hopefully · 08/10/2013 08:41

Georgie have you come across kettlewell? Some stuff isn't terribly exciting, but useful for wrap dresses and vest tops and waterfall cardigans in good colours, all f which are great for BFing.

MelanieCheeks · 08/10/2013 10:45

Any suggestions for nail colours? I have a voucher for Nails Inc. Currently weaing a soft lavendar shade, but it's a bit pale.

GeorginaWorsley · 08/10/2013 13:14

Would like some deep chocolate brown too, snow.

onlysettleforbutterflies · 08/10/2013 13:27

I'm not too good at naming the shades of colours or in fact getting the 'right' shade Grin but I found some nice dark brown skinny jeans/trousers in FatFace, I'm really pleased with the colour.

Hopefully · 08/10/2013 14:54

Melanie I don't use Nails Inc much (am an OPI girl), but anything that looks good with your swatches! my current favourite shade is a slightly sparkly dark petrol blue/green or a real tomato orange/red, also love lime, aubergine for evening, taupey or creamy shades for neutral instead of pale pink, royal purple etc etc.

Cocochops · 08/10/2013 15:05

Just trying to get a few autumn bits online at H and M I love this top dark blue isn't an autumn colour though is it :-( looks Similar similar to swatch 31

On the plus side they have a few mustard teal things I am going to try

buildingmycorestrength · 08/10/2013 15:46

Anyone want to find me an autumn forties dress? I'm more vibrant than muted or soft, size 14, biggish norks, speccy. Grin.

I like teal, purple, burnt orange...

shopafrolic · 08/10/2013 18:08

Hopefully do you care to share the Sparkly petrol blue and tomato orange / red OPI names? I'm in the market for new nail colours and am in London on Sat......

Hopefully · 08/10/2013 19:13

The dark green is Live and Let Die, from the Skyfall collection last year (probably not available any more, but not sure), and the red is my paprika is hotter than yours.

buildingmycorestrength · 08/10/2013 19:49

shopafrolic · 08/10/2013 21:44

THanks Hopefully I love the names!

evelynj · 08/10/2013 22:00

Hi all

Just checked with my consultant as not sure what subtype I am & she has said my * were 'deep' end of the spectrum-does this make me a dark autumn as I dont feel I fit that type? I have pale skin & honey gold highlighted hair. My are dark brown, coffee, dark olive & bronze & are tan, brick, oyster, rosewood, camel, beige, light olive, moss green, old gold & saffron.

Can anyone shed anymore light? Should all the consultants be aware of these subtypes?

I love jewellry & wear mostly platinum & White gold although I have some yellow & Rose gold that I've started to wear more. It's weird getting used to wearing different jewellery but I like it, (defo won't be getting rid of my old stuff though!)

I love those fly boots in brown-off to peruse fly & then read up on my stuff as barely looked at it since. Think I'm going to get the hoc brick lippy as it was on my list but wondering if I'd prefer the Geranium. The lipsticks defo have amazing pigment-I'm surprised they aren't in more make up reviews top tens!

GeorginaWorsley · 08/10/2013 22:04

Love the sound of your colours, evelyn
Saffron ,rosewood,old gold.. Wonderful.

evelynj · 08/10/2013 22:35

Ah, lost reply-autumn, is this top any good for you?

www.wallis.co.uk/en/wluk/product/clothing-265973/tops-265992/gold-petite-printed-top-2270030?bi=1&ps=20

Button phobia is hard work but my bil has balloon phobia whoa I think might be worse & friend of my ex has phobia of flowers!

Thanks Georgina, it's just going to be such a mission finding things in the right style and colours, think it will be nigh impossible-need to win the lottery & hire a tailor!

Tomorrow selecting items to dye, exciting!

GeorginaWorsley · 09/10/2013 06:34

Let us know how you get on Evelyn.
I have a batwing slouchy top ,love shape but its wrong colours, black and grey panels,if that makes sense.
Am considering dyeing but obv black won't dye,so its what colour to put with it
And I think stitches are pale so actually perhaps better not bother!

evelynj · 09/10/2013 07:11

Georgina-dylon do a thing called pre dye that extracts colour to make a neutral base to dye from so it's worth a go- I may use it today if I get a chance so will report back- for me if a lot of black things can go to dark brown, I'd be happy.

Also, dunelm mill seems to be the cheapest place to buy dylon dyes at £4.99. Although I have been thinking that surely HoC are missing a trick by not selling their own dyes as it would make life so much easier & they'd probably sell more dye than make up!

Off to prepare my dragons den type pitch......
