HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Thanks Charity, Georgina and Hopefully . Its great to have people to bounce ideas off Smile, much appreciated.

I think this dress is a possible heliotrope. It could be my screen though, I haven't been in store to check...

charitygirl · 04/10/2013 22:46

Hi Wombat! On my screen that looks pretty cobalt, but there is a scintilla of warmth in it so it might look diff on other monitors - and in real life.

google says its a lilac shade ???

mrspolkadotty · 05/10/2013 07:48

The mustard Topshop blouse arrived yesterday, lovely colour, really seemed to suit me but unfortunately it was too short in the body (don't know how as i'm a shortie), not long enough to tuck in but leaving it out would mean that too much reaching/lifting (so lots with a toddler) would expose a hefty expanse of mummy tummy. And no one needs to see that!

I've bought this coat www.riverisland.com/women/coats--jackets/coats/Navy-contrast-trim-pea-coat-637245

Navy suits me (not worn black in years) and teamed with a bright scarf it tones in well with my other autumn stuff. Planning on changing the buttons though, not keen on them. I also have a asos khaki parka which is a few years old but lovely and warm. I'm going to make a couple of new scarves for winter, definitely a mustard one and perhaps a teal?

Also dyeing a couple of pairs of beige chinos (cheap primark & F&F ones, both 100% cotton) that i'd previously put aside for the charity bag since i hate wearing too light colours on my bottom half, always feel my arse is the size of a small country. I'm using Dylon Olive green so hoping they come out in a wearable colour, always a bugger about the polyester stitching not dyeing though.

Ooh i'll shut up now and let someone else get a word in edgeways Blush

Hi I'm off to the shops today and really need a pair of wirk trousers. With my new colour awareness I'm hoping not to end up with black. Would grey work with most autumn colours?
Also I bought a very dark teal blouse and I don't know what to wear with it. It looks very plain on it's own but I have no idea when it comes to accessorising.
Any help gratefully received.

onlysettleforbutterflies · 05/10/2013 09:03

Good luck jemster, I find work trousers really hard to find in autumn colours. I get round it by wearing smart skinny or straight leg jeans in the right colours, can look really smart with a blazer, depends what you can get away with at work.

Teal looks nice with chocolate brown and tomato red if you're feeling brave..

addle · 05/10/2013 09:07

mrs polkadot, i'd be really interested to hear how the dylon olive green comes out

and more generally i thought quite a lot of autumn colours here: www.gudrunsjoden.com/uk/start-pages-shared/2013/winter/chapters
though a very distinct style and not for everyone

snowlie · 05/10/2013 09:21

I think navy would work better with autumn colouring than grey. For the blouse, I'd either wear a scarf or a piece of chunky jewellery around your neck and maybe a bracelet, depending on how chunky you go. I'd probably go for the scarf but that's because I love wearing scarves!

Hopefully · 05/10/2013 09:22

Jemster if you really can't get any olive/brown/petrol trousers, grey o is definitely preferable to black, it is less stark against the autumn colours. I would wear a teal blouse with gold coloured jewellery, maybe a mustard scarf if the weather dictates?

mrspolkadotty · 05/10/2013 10:18

This has just arrived www.asos.com/Becksondergaard/Becksondergaard-X-Bay-Coral-Dream-Scarf/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3180802&SearchQuery=coral&Rf-700=1000&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=204&sort=-1&clr=602coraldream

It's so luffly Grin Perfect colour and so soft, nice and long too. Makes up for my woe at the topshop blouse. Actually think asos website is down at the moment so might not work.

addle The olive green has worked well, one pair slighter darker than the other as they were a deeper colour to begin and the contrast stitching doesn't look too bad (we'll pretend it's meant to be like that). Last week i dyed 2 cardigans using the olive, both a good fit but wrong shades of green for me (more of a winter's green imo) and it took them both to a nice deep shade which is much more suited to autumns. Next on the list is a pale peachy colour blazer that just washes me out, i'm thinking the dylon terracotta shade.

Hopasholic · 05/10/2013 12:26

hopefully my multi infinity was from Warehouse but it's about 2years old now. Honestly it just goes with everything, I've had more use out of that scarf than anything in my wardrobe!

I'll have a google later and see if I can come up with anything similar Smile

buildingmycorestrength · 05/10/2013 13:09

Aside: are hopasholic and shopafrolic really one person, like Clark Kent and Superman?

TheWombat · 05/10/2013 15:15

It must be my weird screen, on my phone the oasis dress is definitely a bit cobalty. Oh well, the search continues for heliotrope things. The only thing I have in this colour is an infinity scarf from (shh) White Stuff..

Jemster · 05/10/2013 15:41

Please help. Am in Debenhams with vouchers. I haven't found anything I like yet and am getting all confused about colours. I particularly need a coat and some work clothes. Feeling fed up and don't want to go home with nothing again!! Can anyone suggest anything nice please?

Rules · 05/10/2013 16:06

Have you seen any coats you like? Try them on and see how you feel.

Rules · 05/10/2013 16:07

Im like that Jemster when in clothes shops. I seem to hate seeing myself in the mirror mostly so trying things on is difficult but coats.....coats I can handle...just.

lovely berry coloured long coat

Jemster · 05/10/2013 16:13

Yep still here, having a cup of tea and cake!! I have seen several coats but they are all black, grey or beige, none of which appeals to me. Also I am petite so a lot seem to swamp me. I really need to get some things as I don't get time to go to shops often.

Rules · 05/10/2013 16:15

what were you after. What do you need.

shopafrolic · 05/10/2013 16:26

Opinions please...... is this green too bright for Autumns?
