HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Depends on your colouring shop. I have this very colour in a lambswool tank from White Stuff. I have warm blond hair with dark green eyes, medium skin and freckles. Looks nice.

shopafrolic · 05/10/2013 16:34

I'm a warm deep Autumn, hazel eyes, warm darker brown hair with lighter pieces put through it to hide the grey! - I'll have to keep my eyes out for something similar to try. Love the shape too.......

Rules · 05/10/2013 16:35

sometimes it can make some people look a bit green in the face.

shopafrolic · 05/10/2013 16:37

Ha! Yup - I can see how that might happen! :)

Rules · 05/10/2013 16:37

I do find that when someone changes their hair colour that sometimes they find they need to tweek their colours a bit. I know that when I became blond I definitely did.

GeorginaWorsley · 05/10/2013 17:10

Shopafrolic,I am very similar colouring to you and I love that coat colour!

QueenofWhatever · 05/10/2013 17:11

So glad this thread is still going. RL has stopped me MNetting, but I'm managing the occasional lurk and catch up (teacher training as a single parent - I wouldn't recommend it).

I had my style day last month, which was great, and I've bought a fair few things. I'm a vibrant autumn ingenue natural, and it's now slotted into place much more than just having my colours alone.

I've been a ninja eBay shopper and have picked up some really great things. Unfortunately my tastes are quite expensive, think Brora cashmere but my budget isn't.

What's been surprisingly effective is typing colours in - kingfisher, teal, moss green etc., which then brings up some good things in the right sort of shades. I got some great tan coloured cords, which are currently at the tailor, a lovely rich buttery colour that you never see in the shops. They're from Sainsbury's, probably a few years ago as they're boot cut which just shows how some colours go in and out of fashion.

On the burning issue of heliotrope, I have a pair of skinny, slightly stretchy size 10 trousers from H&M. I've never actually worn them, bought them after having my colours done. The colour is great for me, but it's not my style. If anyone wants them, please PM me and I'm happy to send them for £3 P&P.

snowlie · 05/10/2013 18:01

I love that coat Shop looks like grass green - one of my ** colours.

Hopasholic · 06/10/2013 00:38

Shopaholic & myself are two different people but we have autumnal Lycra suits, with 'HoC' on the arse and swoop in to department stores to save people from buying the wrong colours.

Sometime we pose as manikins so watch out Wink Grin

Hopefully · 06/10/2013 10:11

QoW I'm glad you're enjoying your style! I went back and forth for so long on what to make you. Some people are more straightforward than others, much like colour.

Shop I love that green. Too warm for me (and probably really a Spring green), but I bet it would be good on the warmer autumns.

RockMummy · 06/10/2013 13:34

Went to London yesterday and popped into Uniqlo to look at their winter stuff. It's full of beautiful cashmere and merino wool jumpers and cardies in autumn colours: cream, leaf green, spice, chocolate, brick red. Absolutley gorgeous if only i wasn't allergic to wool! Even 5% in something is enough to make me itch and bring me out in a rash. Ho hum!

buildingmycorestrength · 06/10/2013 13:37

Hop oh, how I wish that were true!

QueenofWhatever · 06/10/2013 17:33

Absolutely hopefully, but I realise I also like the stories in my clothes, which you picked up on.

Today I have been wearing soft navy blue needlecord skinnies with calf-high brown furry boots. This was topped off with a khaki lace vest, a red merino v-neck, a kingfisher velvet blazer and oversized chunky knit purple and orange scarf.

To celebrate my autumn colours on a lovely autumn day, DD (8) and I went for a walk in the woods. I learnt a useful lesson: do NOT show off to your DC that you can walk along a fallen log across a deep river. And yes, dear reader, I did fall in head first and had to walk 20 minutes back to the car absolutely soaking with my boots squelching, leaving a trail of water and bemused looks from the dog walkers Blush.

GeorginaWorsley · 06/10/2013 19:04

I think Uniqlo has good autumn colours too.Unfortunately as I am in the north I have to rely on online shopping so bit of guesswork involved. As I said a few posts ago I have the green merino jumper which is lovely.
Am considering the red, does anyone know is it a spice or orangey red as opposed to bluey?
Thanks!!

snowlie · 06/10/2013 19:24

How awful and funny at the same time Queen hope you had a nice warm shower and pulled on some autumn pjs and comforted yourself with a glass of red wine or chocolate....maybe both!

Cocochops · 06/10/2013 20:31

Hey all been on holiday so haven't been posting ( or shopping!) so slowly catching up! Love the mustard blouse linked to unthread

Right well I had my style analysis/ wardrobe clearing out session and feel a little bit disappointed. I have seen a lot of you describing a style type but it wasn't a Hoc consultant so I haven't been given a type. Basically things were just recommended on my body shape. I am 5ft 4 slim and a tiny bit pear shaped with low waist. So she basically recommended very fitted tops and nothing loose on top. I normally wear a lot of skinny jeans and just feel they go better with looser/ drapey tops. She also said I need things to give leg lengthening effect so boots should tone with trousers and be knee high or ankle. So what colour do I get? At the moment I have burgundy and black skinnies but want to get some olive and rust skinnies

Also want to wear opaques and dresses and have boots to wear with those.

I have absolutely no jumpers has anyone seen any nice ones prepared to spend a bit as I am sick of cheap knitwear that bobbles after a few washes. Again she says I need something short and chunky.

Also how many of you still wear blue jeans. My last pair are ready for the bin and want to replace but should I as an autumn?

Sorry for the convoluted jumbled post but I now have very few clothes and think I am more confused then before!

GeorginaWorsley · 06/10/2013 21:16

Am similar shape to you Coco and I love drapey tops with slim trousers.
Usually find some in Phase Eight or Mint Velvet, but not terribly good for autumn colours unfortunately.

Hopefully · 07/10/2013 08:31

Coco what a shame to be disappointed/confused. I think it's really frustrating when you aren't given the tools to carry on and do it yourself, iykwim, and work out ways to make your style work for me - I think everyone has enough 'space' within the style that suits their body shape and personality (and it should definitely take account of personality, as I'm sure QoW will attest) to find a unique look that works for them, rather than being stuck in one top and bottom shape forever more. Was the wardrobe clearout helpful? FWIW I would go for brown boots with rust/olive skinnies - they will tone in better than black/grey boots. Toast does good knitwear IME.

snowlie · 07/10/2013 09:06

Coco I intend to continue wearing blue denim....I don't slavishly follow my colour swatches. My hoc consultant encouraged to choose shades that toned with my colours rather than obsessively matching, I feel navy tones work with my colours but I also feel it looks good on me. Orange is one of my ** colours, I love it but I feel it looks horrid on me and beige is just evil....I feel my colours are a good base to work from but I still have a fairly strong opinion on what does and doesn't suit me. There is such variation even between types of autumns.....I think it's best to get used to figuring out what works for you.

Rules · 07/10/2013 12:39

O denim jeans are classic. I too will always wear them. I find them to be a non colour in a way....they're jeans! They go with anything.

AutumnLeafMyArse · 07/10/2013 12:51

Well I've ordered the two jumpers from Uniqlo. Could I ask for opinions on these two rain macs for the school run. I like this (a lot of the reviewers say it's more brown than sage) but my mouse keeps hovering over this one too!

mrspolkadotty · 07/10/2013 12:53

I still wear blue jeans, dark wash ones from River Island which are a perfect fit on me and i refuse to be parted from (i have 2 identical pairs they're that good!). Today i'm wearing them with the teal sweater from Next i linked to upthread, tan ballet flats and MN leopard scarf in brown. Also an old Oasis leather jacket in brown for when i go out to school later.

I also wear navy as it suits me, rarely wear black. Took me years to get into navy after it constantly reminding me of being in school uniform!

snowlie · 07/10/2013 13:02

autumnleaf I really like the plain one - only slightly meh about the buttons. Not keen on the stripe.

Rules · 07/10/2013 13:23

Naughty mouse Autumn

Rules · 07/10/2013 13:27

Autumn the second one is lovely but limiting. The first one can be worn with a blue/teal scarf for the same effect. But it can also be worn with many other scarf colours too therefore more versatile.
