HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Thanks for the colour combo help, there's a few that i wear already and some i never would have thought of but am now looking forward to trying.

I'm going to dye a 100% cotton blazer and i fancy a rust colour, does anyone know which shade of dylon would be best? I'm thinking terravotta or rosewood red? Hmm

I bought this www.next.co.uk/G4962s1#886781G49 yesterday in the teal colour, really good fit and helpful at hiding a mummy tummy! Also ordered one of the etsy scarves that charitygirl recommended, in the mustard colour.

Hopasholic · 04/10/2013 09:39

Love those infinity scarves but the postage is extortionate! £12.62 to post two scarves? Do they use Fortnums horse & carriage? Not familiar with etsy but I'm not paying the equivalent of a 3rd scarf in postage Hmm

Hopefully · 04/10/2013 09:46

Have just posted a picture on my FB page of me in a Mumsnet Scarf (does anyone remember the zebra ones?) in bright olive/moss. It was a proper ebay cheapie, but I love it. Don't want to link for fear of deletion but if you search FB for HoCExeter it's there. Am wearing with bright teal vest, petrol cardigan, moss jeggings and coffee flat ankle boots.

Hopefully · 04/10/2013 09:47

Mrs I'm on my phone so can't check colours but terracotta sounds a better bet than rosewood.

Hopefully · 04/10/2013 09:50

Snowlie if you want to try more lipstick/make oh colours, I'm sure your consultant would let you pop round to try some. I've done it a couple of times with a client who was a bit shell shocked with all the information in the class and wanted to come back and buy make up later.

charitygirl · 04/10/2013 11:00

Mrs Polkadot - the Dylon terracotta is a lovely autumn shade!

I know the scarf postage is crazy - they're coming from the US but still. Etsy is an online marketplace where people sell things they've made or salvaged. I love searching for things I've struggled to find in the shops - there's just so much on there.

AutumnLeafMyArse · 04/10/2013 11:28

Help! I want to order a merino jumper from Uniqlo. I'm sure the dark green is a good match for an Autumn (and I'm a leaf) not so sure about the green one Can anyone advise?

Jemster · 04/10/2013 11:42

Mrspolkadotty how long are the sleeves on the next red top? They look wrist length in picture but review says theee quarter. I like full length sleeves.

Rules · 04/10/2013 11:56

ooooo so much to catch up on!! Off to look at Hopes photo.......Grin

charitygirl · 04/10/2013 12:20

autumnleaf - that looks like a cross between lime green and grass green so should be fine I think. At worse, it'll be more spring than autumn, but it def looks warm, and should be great with other autumn colours. Just my thoughts, of course...

I am finding th amount of pine green around very frustrating - it was all over the catwalks so no surprise im seeing tons of it in the shops. i think 'ah, lovely dark green' and then realise it's SO not my green.

mrspolkadotty · 04/10/2013 16:15

Jemster the Next jumper sleeves are in between wrist and 3/4 length on me (5'2 short-arse). Would have preferred them full length though. I'll have to remind myself not to keep pulling them down!

RockMummy · 04/10/2013 16:39

I think the problem with a lot of the greens in the shops at the moment have a lot of blue in them rather than gold which rules them out for us. Most disappointing!
Thank you for the tip about the terracotta dye. I love terracotta.
There is a lot of bronze/brass jewellery on Folksy which is nice. Cheaper than gold.

GeorginaWorsley · 04/10/2013 17:02

AutumnLeaf I have the Uniqlo jumper in green and it is a lovely colour.
I have hazel eyes and brunette hair with caramel highlights and I love the colour.

Has anyone seen anything in a rust red/orange or a mustard/warm gold?

Hopasholic · 04/10/2013 17:06

I'm a peacock today Smile blue velvet mini, dark green top, purple opaques and purple suede boots, and a multicoloured infinity scarf in all the above colours with a bit of rust and mustard thrown in.

Either a peacock or a bruise Grin not sure which!

Have had my hair dyed too, wanted auburn, ended up more post box red. Took 4hrs to strip the dark dark brown out & re dye it. Like it though Smile

Hopefully · 04/10/2013 18:03

Autumnleaf I think both those jumpers look good.

Charity what type of autumn are you? I'm a blue autumn and I can push my green a bit darker than the forest green drape - more the darkness of dark olive, but still a warm green. There are some dark greens out there that work for me.

Hop where is your infinity scarf from? Hair sounds amazing! I am getting a couple of chunks of colour put in mine. Was going to go for bright red, but am sorted of tempted to get petrol blue or something...

charitygirl · 04/10/2013 18:21

Argh - iPad just ate long post! Gist being...I'm a 'rich deep autumn' and though I have two stars for the blues and forest greens, I'm not at all 'blue'. Bought the blue autumn lippy on HoC site because it was 2.50...and I looked like a corpse.

Also, I love brass jewellery too,to whoever said that. One of my fave purchases:

snowlie · 04/10/2013 18:40

Love that necklace charity is it very weighty? I can wear most greens, even the blue tinged, as long as it's no where near pastel.

Hopefully I'm sure my hoc consultant would be happy for me to drop by and try on her lipsticks but I'd feel compelled to buy something, after putting her out, which puts me off making contact.

Loved the Tesco cape too butterflies - great shape for an apple.

RockMummy · 04/10/2013 18:42

Georginaworsley, Boden have some nice burnt gold cords and a burnt gold ravello top which I bought. Not worn the cords yet as I'm still in bare legs but the ravello top is beautiful.
Still madly looking for terracotta so if anyone sees anything pretty please share!

charitygirl · 04/10/2013 18:45

I suppose it is a bit weighty snowlie, but not so that I'm always bothered by it. Glad you like it!

Just thinking - I have two ticks at 100% for heliotrope but my consultant wrote DON'T DRIFT! next to it, so clearly I have to be careful with blues. Love heliotrope but def scared of getting it wrong, and you don't see it much anyway.

GeorginaWorsley · 04/10/2013 18:46

Not sure I could do the cords but will try Ravello Top,Rock thanks!

Hopefully · 04/10/2013 19:16

snowlie you could always make it clear you're not intending to buy, iykwim, then you won't feel pressured. I've done it with one client who didn't buy at the time (although she did actually at a later date, but I didn't know to expect that at the time), and didn't mind tbh. It's only 20-30 mins out of my day to help someone get clearer on their colours and hopefully look better and therefore send more referrals my way! Win win.

charity heliotrope is a pain, as it's quite hard to find and as soon as you drift to something either cooler or brighter you've lost the benefits of it. I single star at 100% in it, and I own precisely nothing in heliotrope. Grin

charitygirl · 04/10/2013 19:44

Ha - yes, I have ONE scarf which my mum bought me for Xmas pre-analysis. She actually apologised and said that's now she'd seen it again she thought it was a terribly boring colour - so dusted and muted. I privately agreed and didn't actually wear it once...til my analysis in April, when suddenly it fell into place! I would be lost without it despite a plethora of other scarves - it pulls so many outfits and colour combos together. But I don't think I'll be adding more heliotrope anytime soon.

charitygirl · 04/10/2013 19:50

BTW Georgina - quite a lot of rust in Monsoon. And gold/mustard I've seen in Cos, Linea, and Joules.

shopafrolic · 04/10/2013 19:57

I don't even know what heliotrope is! Heads off to Google.....

GeorginaWorsley · 04/10/2013 21:03

Cos has quite a few possibilities. I like the shapes too.
