HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Some beautiful colours there Charitygirl. Perfect for autumns. Still disappointed by most of the high street autumn collections. Maybe that's good for my bank account though!

I need a new blusher desperately as am so tired, need something to brighten my face up.
I've tried peachy colours but they look a bit orangey.
I fancy something a bit more pink but worry about looking like Aunt Sally!
Any other Autumns use something pinky or is this a comete no no? My skin is olive but sallow, currently with dark undereye circles, nice!!

Spottycurtains · 02/10/2013 21:14

I've just bought the Revlon spicy cinnamon lip stick was recommended on a link from here. It's quite dark, but I think looks good. I'd love some blusher advise too. Thanks to you all for giving me such great ideas.

snowlie · 02/10/2013 21:58

For blusher I'm currently using the toning/bronzing powder from Bare Minerals - I had it already - leftover from a failed attempt at using mineral foundation. Prefer a cream blusher though - I find it easier to blend, so I'm on the look out for a new one.

Charity did you get the green coated skinnies? Mine arrived today and I love them, look really nice with a slouchy green jumper, dressed down enough to avoid being mutton...and I sent my gold/bronze skinnies back to House of Fraser.

Hopefully · 03/10/2013 08:34

Sorry to mention HoC make up again, but it's what I know about! Number 8 blusher is a good pinky tone for autumns (but still with the warmth we need), and if you want to be really naughty and get a pink pink that is still a bit warm, number 12 is a Spring blusher that is really pink.

onlysettleforbutterflies · 03/10/2013 08:44

What is everyone wearing today, I love hearing about outfits, great for inspiration and makes me try harder with colours!

I'm wearing skinny brown trousers, bit unsure of them though as they sit at the ankle and I'm always paranoid they just look too short, rather than meant to be like that, as my legs are quite long. I got them yesterday in the FatFace sale for £20. With a cream sleeveless pussybow top from Banana Republic and a mustard round neck cardigan from H&M. Really old battered brown patent court shoes - desperate for some new ones but can't find anywhere, I've been looking for about 5 years!

Hopefully · 03/10/2013 08:51

I'm wearing a dark olive tunic with button details at the shoulders, and brown leggings. Am not leaving the house today so am not dressed my smartest!

mrspolkadotty · 03/10/2013 09:23

Ok so i know what colours suit autumns (i've self diagnosed as a deep autumn) but i'm still wary of putting colours together. I like contrast between colours but don't want to clash. Can anyone tell me their fave colour combos and also which neutral colour you wear along with them?

charitygirl · 03/10/2013 09:34

That sounds lovely butterflies. I'm in chestnutty tapered trousers from Whistles via charity shop, apricot silk blouse from topshop (ancient) tucked in (with skinny leopard print belt) and light choc v neck jumper from
uniqlo. Also my new office Uncanny boots, and some gold of course! Loving the still mild weather in London - as I still don't have a jacket. Dithering over the £200 Joules one and hoping a code will come my way.

I didn't order the Mango skinnies snowlie because I really need trousers, and ideally leggings, not jeans. Have 10mins to pop into Zara today...

snowlie · 03/10/2013 09:37

I'm in slobber gear today - plain navy long sleeve t shirt, short knitted black skirt and black tights with black brogues - not exactly rocking the autumn vibe! Will do better next time.

charitygirl · 03/10/2013 09:39

Misspolkadot - I like poppy/geranium with
Mustard/gold, with cream as the neutral.

Yellow and heliotrope is gorgeous and works with mid blue denim, which can otherwise be tricky with autumn colours.

Also purple and heliotrope, teal and crocodile green, chestnut and poppy!

onlysettleforbutterflies · 03/10/2013 10:35

Misspolkadot I found looking at pinterest on autumn colours really helped.

I wear lots of navy-mustard, khaki-coral, khaki-rust.

Lots of lovely outfits being worn today. Charity I'm the opposite and can't wait for the cold weather so I can wear my new camel cape.

Hopefully · 03/10/2013 11:16

Colour combos - there are tons in the workbook that comes with the colour swatches, but some of my go-tos are:
petrol/oyster/mustard
mustard/brick red/camel
dark olive/lime green/oyster
dark olive/bright orange
Pretty much anything with bright orange to add some brightness, actually.
Khaki with pretty much anything - it stands in as a neutral in my world.

MelanieCheeks · 03/10/2013 12:53

I love chocolate brown with duck-egg blue (currently wearing dark brown linen trousers with a grey mix top)

My "worked best" outfit this week was a pair of india-ink dark blue/grey linen trousers worn with brown chunky heeld boots, a grey striped shirt and dark grey jacket.

Fave make-up is benefits Hula bronzer and lip gloss, but it's bronzey rather than pink.

BridgeMix · 03/10/2013 13:31

Onlysettle... a camel cape, you say?! From where?

onlysettleforbutterflies · 03/10/2013 13:38

Bridge its from TU, they only show the navy one on the website though
[http://www.sainsburys-live-well-for-less.co.uk/tu-clothing/products/women/buckle-collar-cape/ cape].

Also seen a very similar one in Warehouse, but dearer.

onlysettleforbutterflies · 03/10/2013 13:41

Whoops

cape

BridgeMix · 03/10/2013 14:16

Oh nice!

jeanvaljean · 03/10/2013 16:28

Hopefully - what is this workbook you speak of?! I never got a workbook. Any chance you can scan/photograph and stick the pages up?

I struggle working out what colour combos go together, and often leave the house wondering if I look like a clown.

RockMummy · 03/10/2013 17:47

I agree with Hopefully. My favourite neutral is khaki green. I also love brown. Oyster/cream looks very expensive with khaki/coral or infact with any of the colours in the autumn palette. Currently wearing teal skinnies with a cream long sleeved t-shirt and chestnut brown ballerinas. Had a brown blazer and teal scarf on when went to work. Am really enjoying my colours and don't think I look like poo at all!

Hopefully · 03/10/2013 20:34

jean did you have your colours done by HoC? If you did you should have got a skinny book with your season name on the front and all your ratings inside. On one of the pages is a list of suggested colour combinations. It's a fantastic resource actually, v under-rated and has tons of info in it. I always walk my clients through it at the end of the class to make sure they don't miss the information in there.

charitygirl · 03/10/2013 21:02

That sounds lovely rockmummy.

Am soooo pleased - found ideal trews/leggings in my whip round Zara today. These in the olive green (though its a v brown green IMO).
www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/trousers/legging-style-trousers-c269187p1454150.html

They look pretty expensive, and keep even my inner thigh hamsters in check. Only F in the O is the fact that my pair have a hole in the side seam so will have to go back (had no time to try on!) But otherwise, woo!

Quite a lot of camel in Zara if anyone's interested in that - tends to be a bit too 'classic' for my style.

charitygirl · 03/10/2013 21:03

And YY to the workbook being great - I use it as comfort reading when I'm vair vair tired.

snowlie · 03/10/2013 22:10

Hopefully - your posts are really useful, I guess the struggle with the HOC make up colours is that I can't try them again and my consultant was at a loss as to what to put on my lips - partly my fault as I gasped and spluttered in horror at my initial colour diagnosis, so I was not in a good frame of mind to choose a lip colour. She recommended I try some on at a beauty counter, and today I did just that - the sales assistant blinded me with beauty jargon...I'm a simple soul - I don't layer, I don't seal, I don't gloss and I rarely line but we muddled through and I bought Bobbi Brown Nude for everyday wear and noted BB Burnt Red for a good glamour shade that I might buy at a future date. I had decided that it was better to invest in a good lipstick that suits me rather than doing the usual trick of trying out colours on the back of my hand and wasting £££s on cheap lipsticks that don't suit.

I'm loving all the colour combining, I've wanted to dive into colours for so long. Forest green is my new black....I love it and fortunately it loves me back!

HoleyCow · 04/10/2013 05:35

Hopefully - have cut and pasted your colour combos into a safe place :). Am going to find a couple of quiet hours and revisit my wardrobe. Thanks
