HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Rules I think there are some colour consultants who are so pleased with all the colours they can wear they go a bit colour mad and it stops looking like someone dressing for real life, if you know what I mean? I get a lot of people comment how 'normal' I look, but still making the most of my colours, iykwim. I think all the colours in the world can't save someone from bad dress sense, sadly Grin

charitygirl · 01/10/2013 14:27

Yes, 'royal' is the right purple - you don't want any 'berry-ness' creeping in, and of course no mauve (which I think is a vile colour except on a summer when it suddenly looks classy and delightful!).

onlysettleforbutterflies · 01/10/2013 14:33

Thanks, I might go ahead and order it then.

mrspolkadotty · 01/10/2013 14:40

I am utterly failing in my quest for a green coat . I don't want a parka or mac or jacket. The ones i've seen/tried are all wrong. Just had a delivery of the Darling Edie coat from Debenhams and although the colour is lovely the fit is all weird.

Has anyone seen anything nice that is suitable for an autumn. Or any ideas of what other colour of coat i should look for?

mrspolkadotty · 01/10/2013 14:42

Oh and i'm debating whether to order this, i love mustard Smile

Mrs that blouse is gorgeous, order it!

Hopefully · 01/10/2013 15:35

Only that blouse looks possible, just be careful it's a deep enough purple when it comes - you want a real cadbury's wrapper colour, nothing too clear and bright.

Mrs that blouse is really pretty.

HoleyCow · 01/10/2013 15:40

Oh Mrs - that top is gorgeous! Luckily for my credit card they don't have it in my size :)

mrspolkadotty · 01/10/2013 15:49

Ordered it, i've been umm-ing and ahh-ing for the past 24 hours but seeing as you all said it was ok i have bitten the bullet Grin

Sorry kids it'll be jam butties this week, mamma's been a-shopping!

snowlie · 01/10/2013 17:23

Got this today! fantastic shade of red! really warm and flattering colour. This scarf from Uniqlo. I'm so low on scarves - they were all the wrong colours.

My gold jeans and bronze t shirt arrived this afternoon, they look brilliant on but I can't decide whether I'll wear them enough to justify the purchase.

Love the yellow blouse Mrs

I've given in to brick red lipstick, I look so much healthier, it's bright but I can't bear beige or brown on my lips.

HoleyCow · 01/10/2013 17:46

Can one of you lovely autumns give me an exact name/brand for a good lipstick (like your brick red, Snowlie). I am so bad at colours that even saying brick red doesn't much help Blush

mrspolkadotty · 01/10/2013 17:49

Ooh that's nice snowlie. Red is a colour i love but really struggle with getting the right shade.

How does the sizing come up? I've never had anything from there before.

I'm planning on dyeing a primarni jersey blazer after having success with turning 2 cardigans into a lovely olive green shade using Dylon. Any ideas on the colour? My normal 'play it safe' head is saying navy but i was thinking be brave and go for red Hmm Or any other dye colours that would be good for an autumn? It is a pale peachy/pink at the moment but too pale for me, i look washed out in it.

charitygirl · 01/10/2013 17:56

A quick schlep round Monsoon whilst waiting for a train (why are the same shops in every station ? So boring) reveals they have lots of browny red, teal and cream in. A couple of things I like but I'll wait for mid-season sale. My theory is that those bits won't sell nearly as well as the burgundies and berries that they've also got lots of, so 'our' still should be in plentiful supply come sales.

Also everyone appears to be wearing oversized biker jackets (sort of mid thigh and cocoon shaped). This trend seems to have risen w/o trace - and I'm
Not sure I like it.

snowlie · 01/10/2013 18:40

I think for &stories 36 is a size 10 it fitted me and was on the neater side of slouchy....I would say they are fairly average in terms of sizing. The lipstick I have is Brique secouriste from Bourjois....it's an old one though....but the colour is good. Red with a hint of brown.

HoleyCow · 01/10/2013 19:40

Oooohhh - thanks Snowlie. Just googled it and it looks like it's still current so I'm off to the shops tomorrow afternoon :)

shopafrolic · 01/10/2013 21:21

This is the red I wear HoleyCow but a bit more pricey here

charitygirl · 01/10/2013 22:06

mrspolkadot - how about terracotta? Easier to get right than red (not least because Dylon do a dye called...terracotta) and its actually a not too bright neutralish colour.

MelanieCheeks · 01/10/2013 22:53

Some nice pumpkin/ beige/ charcoal grey pieces in jaeger- a lovely burnt orange pashmina is on my wish list, as well as this bag

Hopefully · 02/10/2013 07:25

Holey I wear mostly HoC ones, my go to bright red is 606 and a good rusty brick colour is 410. I actually think the HoC lippies are great for intense long lasting colour, but will accept I may be biased Wink

Seri77 · 02/10/2013 09:59

Well I've been feeling the red & thrifty vibe. Got the red Tesco cardi for round the house to liven up my grey 'loungewear' tops - thanks Rules!

Also got a good & cheap red t shirt from M&S for work to wear under an an oatmeal cardi in the sale. I'm slowly changing my work wardrobe over to Autumn colours but not willing to spend much money for work.

When you all talk about two star colours, do you mean two stars at 100% only? I only have 4 of those but quite a few at 75 & 50%.

OP posts:
Hopefully · 02/10/2013 10:09

Seri as a consultant I generally mean only 100% and occasionally 75% ones, as we are usually talking about them in terms of your absolute wow best most amazing colours.

Seri77 · 02/10/2013 11:10

Thanks Hopefully. I have nothing in my two star 100% colours sadly. I do have a top in 75% two star yellow ochre which does the wow thing so I think I'd better track down some 100% scarves at least.

Now has anyone seen plain scarves in chestnut, rust, apple jade or moss green?

OP posts:
Hopefully · 02/10/2013 12:59

Seri have you looked at kettlewell? Only plain jersey and merino, but the infinity scarves are nice.

charitygirl · 02/10/2013 16:16

Seri - I know it looks orange, but really this is a gorgeous chestnut in real life. So soft too..
