HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Love the leggings charity and a bargain too!

charitygirl · 29/09/2013 18:29

Thanks butterflies - obviously I could look like a big copper zeppelin, but fingers crossed...

snowlie · 29/09/2013 18:35

Charity how about these www.johnlewis.com/mango-green-coated-super-slim-jeans-dark-green/p665327

charitygirl · 29/09/2013 19:37

Snowlie - those look fab and not too 'pine' green which so many dark green things are turning out to be this season. Ideally I really want legging type trews without buttons, zips etc but those look like they would be a good addition to the wardrobe.

snowlie · 29/09/2013 20:04

Oops I've ordered the green skinnies, the bronze skinnies, a bronze t shirt, a pair of red cowboy boots and a cuddly toy Wink

Today I wore skinny jeans rolled up with greige boots from Clarks, yellow loose fit blouse from Zara, fitted navy blazer from Banana Republic and a gold statement necklace from Top shop - all things I had in my wardrobe already but I had never put them together and they felt good, they felt like me. My HoC consultant encouraged me to be dramatic in my dress as it's what suits me and thinking about it, it's the way I dressed before I became a mum and then I lost my way a bit - it feels good to dress like me again.

charitygirl · 29/09/2013 20:16

Haha - great work! Yesterday I wore orange vest under a chartreuse long sleeve tee plus a neon yellow scarf for a vv casual look.

Tomorrow - at Tory Party Conference (I have to go for work...) I'll be debuting my orange midi tube dress with leopard print cardi, brown tights and lots of gold.

Rules · 29/09/2013 20:27

Wow you lot are very adventurous with your colours. I dont like lots of different colours on me and tend to go for a toned look. Do any of you put your outfits up anywhere. Would be interesting to see.

charitygirl · 29/09/2013 21:03

Rules - well my HoC booklet says autumn's best look is monochromatic ie lots of tones of the same colour so sounds like you've got it right. I do like a bit of contrast in my clothes even though I know that's wrong for autumn.

Having said that I wore a pale olive mini, dark olive vest and light brown vneck jumper on Friday which was pretty monochrome (also a heliptope scarf) and I did feel pretty good so I will try to put together more toning outfits.

I don't have pics anywhere but maybe could put on my profile!

snowlie · 29/09/2013 21:13

I love the idea of a leopard cardy - where can I find one? Could be the calmer element of colour for me. Rules I have no choice - all my colours are bright and deep and as much as I think classic subtle clothes look good on other people, classic styles make me feel frumpy, dull and old, I'm going to grow old disgracefully....Grin

charitygirl · 29/09/2013 21:17

Yes, I don't have an iota of classic style in me. According to HoC I'm am ingenue natural. Small leopard print is perfect for me!

New Look have got a nice leopard cardi at the moment (and 100% cotton!) - mine is ancient Zara

snowlie · 29/09/2013 21:19

My consultant said that while 2 autumn colours together can look dull, adding one more gives the interest and contrast needed. Funny I could do all black easily but all green would feel too matchy, I'm so inconsistent. Hmm Grin

Rules · 29/09/2013 21:23

he he snowlie go you!!!
Charity im so glad you said that. I was beginning to think that I was doing something wrong. I have always gone for toning as I like the clean affect but always envy those who mix it up and wear lots of colour. Don't know if its being tall or being a curvy hourglass or weather I don't like to stand out to much. Mmmmm!!!! will have to think on with that. Or as you said maybe its just being an Autumn. Im a warm one and look good in red (a new discovery!!) greens , purple, browns, dark grey, stone, salmon and black. Usually as long as they have some warmth in them.
Well have spent the afternoon dying some items with a warm dark brown dye. Have put them on to wash and rinse so will see how that works out for me.

Rules · 29/09/2013 21:27

Jem I got the Tesco Red cardi even though its cheap and cheerful. With my warm sheer red lipstick it looks amazing. Wow. I look so healthy and alive. What to wear it with....well I put it with black skinnies and black long bodied vest top with long necklace. Didn't like the effect as don't really like colours with black. Looks to 80s even for me. So I think it would look better and work really well with grey. Dark or light. Would warm it up as I have a lot of grey in my wardrobe. Would look good with white and mustard too I think. Like you im just venturing into all this and it is quite an eyeopener don't you think?

Jemster · 29/09/2013 22:35

Thanks Rules, was it the longish open cardi with a ribbed effect? That's the one I saw and it really matched my swatch! I'm surd it would make me look a lot healthier and less tired than I currently do but I'm just not sure I have the confidence to wear such a bold colour when I never havd before. I think I would feel self conscious especially at work where my clothing is dull as dishwater!! Wouldn't it seem a bit strange if I suddenly turned into a colour queen after all these years of black work trousers & jackets?

snowlie · 29/09/2013 23:10

jemster buy the cardigan! wear it at home! buy a scarf for work....baby steps are fine to begin with.

Rules · 29/09/2013 23:48

Yep Jem its the ribbed open one. It really does make me look radiant. I think it you wore it with grey it would be more subtle. To be honest, thinking about it im not sure myself how I will wear it out. Wearing a scarf as snowlie says is the best way to start. Im used to browns with caramels, black and tan, grey and black and not used to colour really so am finding it hard.

Just bought these - if you're looking for a comfy ankle boot you can wear with dresses or skinnies, these are brilliant

GeorginaWorsley · 30/09/2013 20:17

Would love to find either top, jumper or scarf in pumpkin and mustard colours.

Hopefully · 01/10/2013 09:50

Hello! I've been away at the HoC conference all weekend so haven't checked in.

Rules as charity says, toning is great for most autumns, with the odd exception. I always tell clients to keep in mind the kind of effect of all the different tones of leaves on a tree in autumn.

Charity I love those leggings!

Evelyn I reckon that ecru colour is closer to camel/beige, but depending on the original thing you're dying you might get a murkier lizard grey type colour.

Rules · 01/10/2013 12:51

yay!!!!! Thanks hopefully I'm glad I'm on the right track. Do you love your work? I used to be a stylist in the boutique I ran so used to help my customers choose clothes and I always seemed to be drawn to the right colours for them. However I had two ladies who were CMB consultants and I did not think that they used colour effectively. They tended to look dated rather than stylish. One wore a bright blue coat and she had dark brown hair and although this may have been her colour, the overall affect was old fashioned and too in your face. My other lady who was a consultant had her hair coloured in many different hues of blond, red and gold and wore clothes and scarves to reflect this but the overall effect was dated and trying to hard. Confused I always feel women look better with a less is more approach to colour. What do you think ?

onlysettleforbutterflies · 01/10/2013 13:14

Before I buy it could you more knowledgeable ladies than me, just confirm its the right shade of purple, I think it is and tried it on and it looked pretty good.

purple top

I am a warm autumn but tend to stick to shades of brown, mustard, orange and green, trying to branch out a bit in to the brighter shades.

onlysettleforbutterflies · 01/10/2013 13:14

Oh and what colours would you wear it with?

charitygirl · 01/10/2013 13:15

That looks very 'royal' to me butterflies - purple looks so good with so any autumn colours

onlysettleforbutterflies · 01/10/2013 13:44

Sorry for being dim, is Royal purple right? I don't think I have ever bought purple and can't find my swatches.
