HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Oh shop good find! I think I'm still most drawn to the forest green Iro skinnies on Atterley Road though, but haven't ordered.

Love those Jalouse TheWombat

Thanks Hopefully. Having been inspired by this thread have just coloured my very light blond hair to more of a darker honey with highlights. Makes my eyes pop and really suits my skintone much better. Have been going through my wardrobe putting colours against me and they definitely look better now that my hair is a richer colour rather than light blond.

shopafrolic · 20/09/2013 10:51

Sounds gorgeous Rules

MsInga does this table help? Perhaps you are a mix between warm and deep autumn? Were you told your best colours?

Thanks Seri that is helpful. My best colours are mustard, moss green, coral, rust, peacock blue, lime, lots of reds.

Hi, I am new to posting on these boards but have been lurking for some time and learnt a lot in the process! I have had my colours done in the past (about 20 years ago) and know I am an Autumn but would like to have them done again by House of Colour to get more specific recommendations for what suits me. I would like to know what "sub-type" I am. From reading on mumsnet it seems like HoC are good, but has anyone been to the Nottingham branch of HoC? Or in the East Midlands? Would like to have a recommendation before I commit as it is a bit pricey. Thanks

So the Austin Reed suit that took over a week to arrive has just gone back. Perfect fit, good quality materialist the jacket and skirt did not quite match. I phoned up customer services who said were not supposed to despite having the same name. They hadarching trousers for the jacket but completely the wrong size.

But did find a lively forest green jumper and green skirt at jigsaw yesterday!

HerbertGistcool · 21/09/2013 13:40

Matching trousers

Marking my place and joining as a Dramatic Vibrant Autumn as of this morning! But I have saved up for a bit of a spree so don't feel too negative about a wardrobe overhaul. Lamenting the loss of black....but excited about some new purchases. Have picked up loads of ideas from the thread so far. First stop - some new knitwear, looks like Uniqlo, Pure and Baukjen with their 25% off codes are a good place to start.
Struggling with lipsticks though, they were all a bit too strong - orangey reds and dark browns, suited but not for daywear, any ideas?

Rules · 21/09/2013 18:19

snowlie...Hello.....can you not still wear black on your bottom half? I do but I also wear it near my face as its suits me. Im a warm Autumn though.

snowlie · 21/09/2013 18:35

I could maybe with a navy top but I general I tended to wear black with black, grey or white and a splash of red. Black can be hard to match to colour without it looking cheap.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 21/09/2013 18:55

Bought 2 new tops since my consultation which I love,

Waiting for the Boden one to arrive to double check on the colour, but it looks more coral than pink.

snow one of my favourite colour combos is black and caramal or tan. Looks so classy and stylish. I like wearing my black pencil skirt with a caramel shirt and black and caramel stiletto shoes or a black dress with caramel/tan belt and carmel/tan necklace or scarf.

snowlie · 21/09/2013 20:12

Rules I've always seen tan as a colour for other people, it's not a colour I can wear, despite being an Autumn, it looks dull and boring on me. There's nothing about me that is a classic, I have never even wanted to look classy - much too grown up Wink, hence the panic before my colourist revealed the vibrant side of autumn and she explained I suited the dramatic side of dressing, I still worry that I'm going to struggle to dress in the style I like, which is more edgy, with autumn colours - the links to the Pinterest boards on this thread have given me some comfort.

ChickenLickenSticken · 21/09/2013 20:16

Hello fellow autumns, can I join?

I've recently been diagnosed as a dark blue autumn and to be honest am a bit disappointed. I'd presumed I'd be a winter and from looking at the charts autumn was the one I disliked the most.

My consultant found me hard to diagnose and said that dark blue autumns were tricky. I mind of came away feeling like she'd convinced us both that that was the right category because she was just so relieved to have come up with one, if that makes sense.

Some of the colours did look ok but as they are to what I'm used to I'm finding it hard to get my head around it all. Some make me think of frumpy school teachers (no offence!) and in all honesty I feel like there's probably only a handful of the 36 that I'd wear. And the thought of no more trusty old black gives me hives..... I guess I need to go and try out a few bits in my new colours but I'm scared to in case I just get it bloody wrong (clothes shopping confidence is at an all time low here).

Is it just a case of remembering that just because I like a colour it doesn't mean it'll suit me? And that colours I don't love may turn out to be great on me?

ChickenLickenSticken · 21/09/2013 20:23

So, looking at this dress for example www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Skater-Dress-With-Collar-And-Pintucks/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3097525&cid=8799&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=36&sort=-1&clr=Burgundy I could probably wear this for work, but would automatically gor for black tights and shoes. If black is out what would go instead? Argh help!

snowlie · 21/09/2013 20:28

Chicken I think an open mind might help - try things but don't buy non returnables unless you are confident about colours. The lipsticks were my hell - brown, coral and brick red....the only one I liked was brick red but it was a bit too obvious and made up for day wear, we tried the more subtle lip staining approach but I though it still looked hideous. Sad

snowlie · 21/09/2013 20:31

Nice dress, maybe you can still do black away from face....life without black is a bit challenging. Or you could do brown tights and brown shoes....anyone thinking walking turd? Confused

ChickenLickenSticken · 21/09/2013 20:35

Yes I think you're right, I need to go with it more. I'm just not drawn to any of the autumn colours really. And the ones I thought looked a bit better, the consultant would give one tick at 25/50%. I bought a dark love green roll neck a few years ago and felt it did NOTHING for me, but that's now got 2 stars at 100%.....

The bright red lippy looked fab but the rust and the coral looked naff I thought. I've got lots of pinky-purples in my make up bag Sad.

I dunno, I know it's all just a bit of a guide and need to get my head around it more but I thought it would all "click". It's early days, I guess I need time to adjust!

ChickenLickenSticken · 21/09/2013 20:37

snowlie walking turd is exactly it Grin!! Swamp kept springing to mind too....
