HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Dark olive, not love.

snowlie · 21/09/2013 20:42

Did navy get a tick? I got navy, olive, peacock dark brown, grass green, saffron [ didn't agree] royal purple and forest green as my best colours.

ChickenLickenSticken · 21/09/2013 20:43

Yes it did, I think we're similar...

shopafrolic · 21/09/2013 20:44

Snowlie I was classed as classic dramatic and am a warm deep Autumn. It's taken a while it I'm starting to find an edgier look even in Autumn colours I think......

snowlie · 21/09/2013 20:45

And the orange/brown combo was screaming 1970's nightmare curtains but they were my best colours.....I felt irrationally annoyed at seeing them beside my face....orange maybe but not together.

ChickenLickenSticken · 21/09/2013 20:52

Oh god yes that's so apt re the 70s curtains.

We're going to look like shits going to a 70s fancy dress party.

Thank god summer is over - no autumn colours seem to be conducive to a lovely bright fresh summers day.

shopafrolic · 21/09/2013 21:00

Chicken if you're in doubt about your analysis do go back and ask for some more help going through it all. You should have been able to see things clearly I think?

snowlie · 21/09/2013 22:00

Chicken Grin

ChickenLickenSticken · 21/09/2013 22:05

shop I'm sure it's me more than anything. I haven't had the chance to go out and practice but planning on doing some Internet shopping tomorrow as have a few things on next week at work and socially that I am dreading as nothing to wear would like a couple of new bits for.

RockMummy · 21/09/2013 22:25

I found that wearing cream lacey tops and things in coral with olive/moss/khaki green bottoms was a lovely summery look for me. I'm a bright leaf autumn but I refuse to give up blue jeans. I have khaki, brown, rust and teal coloured jeans which look nice but they're not blue!

snowlie · 22/09/2013 09:25

I have a plan and it involves navy, red and forest green and some oyster white....the kind of non autumn, autumn colours....I'll invest in these first. I had been hankering after a pair of red ankle boots and I now have a perfect excuse. Might even buy myself a peacock slouchy bag.

Can't see myself being attracted to the idea of swimming in a big pile of brown poo clothing in the near future....but I'll keep trying. Wink

onlysettleforbutterflies · 22/09/2013 11:14

Snowlie that made me laugh. When I first had my colours done I felt exactly the same, my first shopping trip actually ended in tears, I just couldn't do it, but a few years down the line its got much easier.

ChickenLickenSticken · 22/09/2013 13:35

I did a pretend shop online with h&m last night and saw a few nice bits. They are fine, just not the colours I'd ever imagined wanting to buy. If I can get round to it I'll try and sort a Pinterest board to get you lovely ladies to tell me if I'm getting close to the mark or not. Then it's just a case of actually wearing those things.....

snowlie · 22/09/2013 15:42

Don't look anywhere near the Kettlewell catalogue, it looks like a vomit of colour....who on earth did they get to do the styling? Seriously having a wobble after seeing their idea of colours that compliment each other. The purple and silver ocean print with emerald stole on page 86 is hideous, actually most of their outfits are hideous,....and this is meant to help improve the way people dress? Are they taking the piss? Confused

Question though, they seem to suggest Aubergine for Autumns but not navy. I have navy but no aubergine in my swatch, they suggest royal purple for spring and winter but it's in my Autumn swatch as one of my double stars - what's going on?

Hopasholic · 22/09/2013 17:53

I felt much the same initially chicken. I only had mine done a few weeks ago and I have made a couple of cheap purchases to get me started. When I got the clothes out of my wardrobe in the autumn colours that I already owned, I automatically had things to go with new purchases.

I'm beginning to see clearly that purchasing fom your colour wallett means that you already have things to match. A revelation for me as I'd always see a 'nice' top or a 'gorgeous' skirt then they'd sit in my wardrobe along with all the other stuff as I'd have nothing to go with it.

So do not fear, you don't have to be head to toe turdsville! Just mix it up!

You can also pick up some great bargains as the turd colours are the last to go Grin

Hello all,

Please can I pull up a chair? Got done yest & am autumn (thought I'd be spring & am coming to terms with the shock, especially after buying a load of spring lipsticks from the spring thread!)

Please can I ask for a little help?

I'm not sure of my sub category or if I have one. My ** colours for 100% are dark brown, coffee, dark olive & bronze...can anyone tell?

Does anyone have any make make up recommendations-budget brands preferably to start with & especially good lipsticks as I was getting into all the vibrant spring ones.

Some folk have ,entioned dyeing clothes which seems worth a go-what brand & colours have you all found good & are they true to the colour on the packet?

How close to the colours on the swatches do you need to get when shopping or is it just anything that looks like it coordinates with the swatches?

Also I had the style & am a natural romantic, so any advice on budget pieces that work or accessories greatly appreciated

Love reading all these posts & am going to have a mooch about the shops tomorrow & a good look in all the charity shops for a bit of tweed ;)

ChickenLickenSticken · 22/09/2013 19:22

Thanks hop, I've been browsing online and already feel a bit free-er IYSWIM in that things I would've automatically discounted due to sludginess I'm now having to consider, so it's semi-refreshing.

And yes yes to things matching. All the stuff in my hypothetical h&m basket online looked like they would go with each other which is revelationary for me too. I was telling my consultant that I'd bought a liar of dark green jeans and they ended up in the charity shop bag because I had nothing to go with them and she said it was hardly any wonder if I was always buying bright summer stuff or relying on black and then wondering why I looked so naff.

So is think I am coming to terms with it. Just don't want to look mumsy in my sludge. I'm desperately trying to get out of my current "I've lost me" phase (rejoined gym and feeling more myself after stopping bf-ing dd at 18 months) so with my self confidence a bit low I kind of feel this is a bit of a last chance to start getting it right or I never will... But taking that leap is a bit daunting too in that, wtf will I do if this doesn't work!!!!

ChickenLickenSticken · 22/09/2013 19:23

A pair, not liar.

snowlie · 22/09/2013 19:37

It's funny hop because I suspected the sales would be good for Autumns as our colours are so uncool!!!

Waves to Evelyn no idea what category of Autumn you are, can you call your consultant and ask. All my ** are the deep, bright colours - muted does not suit me at all.
There seems to be some disagreement over whether deep autumns can get away with black....in fact my mum was really surprised that I was advised me not to wear black as she loves it on me.

GeorginaWorsley · 22/09/2013 20:47

I agree re black.
I look better in brown but I can do black, especially if I have a tan.
My husband hates brown too and seems to like me in black!

shopafrolic · 22/09/2013 20:49

I think it depends on the tone of black? I found this quite helpful

HerbertGistcool · 22/09/2013 20:56

I posted before about some purchases, but couldn't link from my phone.

This is the skirt:

and the jumper:

Going to wear to work this week.

Rules · 22/09/2013 21:21

Herbert love that outfit. So classy.

snowlie · 22/09/2013 21:32

I love the skirt herbert will go try it on but the styling is bloody awful, is the model wearing black socks and sandals? Nice soho boots on the green top model though....I know they're black but hey, I'm not conforming deliberately!

Rules · 22/09/2013 21:46

Shop quite agree on the shades of black there. Love your Pinterest board. I must sort mine out.
