'classics' you hate

following on from the 'fashions you don't understand' thread, which 'must have' classic items of clothing are just a washout for you?

Mine is a trenchcoat - it looks shit on me.
Also those boucle chanel-type jackets - fuck I age 30 yrs putting one of those on.

I was going to say the trenchcoat - awful and I don't really get leggings that expose your bottom.

I don't get the boucle chanel-type jackets either. They are the kind fo things you see MPs wives wearing.

I am not sure that leggings are up there with trench coats and Chanel jackets in the fashion classics stakes.

Wrapover dresses. Bleugh.

The little black dress.

I went to an awards do and almost every woman was wearing black, like an evening funeral.

Wrap dress - terrible on me.

Boucle jacket - Tory wife.

Silk scarf - air hostess.

On me that is.

Loafers or ballerina pumps. Granny shoes.

Double-breasted anything - trench coats, jackets. Make me look awful. Very fitted jackets ditto. They might work if they were actually cut to be fitted to my shape, rather than someone else's. hmmmm... Bespoke may be the way to go!

All terrible.

Crisp white shirt. Makes me look like a very old schoolgirl, and is uncrisp after about five minutes.

I can't get anywhere with white shirts either, Travelin. I so want to, they look so good on women I admire like Patti Smith. On me - trussed up, then in no time at all crumpled and stained.

Linen. Like an old dishrag after 5 minutes. Wrap dresses, suit almost no one IMO. Polo necks, add 40 years instantly. Anything strapless makes me look like I'm in drag.

Anything made out of crepe!

This might sound weird but does anybody find that tailored type shirts give them a sore neck/ shoulders?

god yeah white shirts. Do nothing for me. And quite tory wife IMO too.
Any jind of scarf looks twatty as hell on me.
And those 'classic' bags like the hermes thingimie that takes 12yrs to make out of calf-hymen.

Scarves of any description for me too.

As I have to dress modestly (Arabic country government office), I bring a scarf and the girl next to me flounces it for me. Looks terrible but is a necessity rather than fashion, so nobody can accuse me of having my norks on display too much!

Black trousers, don't care if they are tailored, bootleg or just ordinary they always make me think someone needs something to wear to work and has no imagination or is skint.

yy higgle. I do not own black trousers (unless you count a pair of v skinny jeans). I look like a waitress or work experience student in them.

Also, black court shoes. They look so hideously boring on me.

I like cowl necks.
I like those little cropped boucle jackets too.
Love white shirts but look freaking awful in them, so don't wear them - in fact, shirts generally.
A double-breasted knee length trench coat would be an absolute disaster on me.
