'classics' you hate

following on from the 'fashions you don't understand' thread, which 'must have' classic items of clothing are just a washout for you?

Mine is a trenchcoat - it looks shit on me.
Also those boucle chanel-type jackets - fuck I age 30 yrs putting one of those on.

Black trousers. I echo whoever said work experience/waitress.

I like camel and similar colours, but I'm very olive skinned with super dark hair so maybe that's why it works for me.

knitknack · 05/08/2013 08:13

Camel is one of the few colours I CAN wear as a warm autumn with weird colouring!! :)

I really like shift dresses, but I'm 5'10" and a size 10 so I perhaps deludedly think they look OK on me.

I also really like wrap dresses, but I worry that they're starting to look dated. And I would have thought that anyone who can wear a wrap dress can wear a (well cut) trench, no? Same principle.

I like black trews, in certain styles.

I like the white shirt style, but my colouring doesn't really suit white.

I like camel/beige/caramel/cream, as with olive skin, dark hair and eyes, they suit me. For the same reason white doesn't!

No to animal prints (on me), BUT I don't think they count as classic, more of a trend/personal style thing.

Arf at prosthetic feet. You have to match them to your American tan tights, like Kate M. Smile

PlatinumStart · 05/08/2013 09:13

I love a boucle jacket with boyfriend jeans - always get compliments and I love a shift dress for work, something straight up/down to skim bust, any thing too fitted makes me look a bit "obvious" due to 32e norks.

White shirt, trench and turtle neck all dire on me - due to short waist big boobs.

snowlie · 05/08/2013 09:19

Shirt dresses - I can do a shirt but extend to a dress and it just looks hideous on me.
Proper classic closed toe high heels - they look good on others but I never feel old enough to wear them - I think it's a hangover from growing up with grunge.

ExasperatedSigh · 05/08/2013 12:59

Blazers
Loafers - make me feel sick

I look shit in a trench coat.

LadyBigtoes · 05/08/2013 13:04

"Classic" trenchcoats and navy blazers
In fact anything navy, it's so "classic and will never let you down" but makes me look like I'm at school.
Pointy-toed stilletoes - cannot understand why anyone wears them, I think they look AWFUL
White shirts - "you can never have too many white shirts" - feck off!
Silky floppy blouses and pencil skirts - I feel uncomfortable just looking at someone else in them.

I like shift dresses, A-line skirts and linen trousers. I think the classic I can't do is that dressed-up/smart classic look.

LadyBigtoes · 05/08/2013 13:04

Oh god yes loafers!

noddyholder · 05/08/2013 15:20

Blazers and chinos on men yuck! Also hate nude shoes like shop window dummy circa 1980. Really hate wrap dresses too esp teh expensive one

Napoleon66 · 05/08/2013 16:45

Camel colour anything washes me out. Wrap dress are awful on me as are rusching, flounces and draping. Jersey dress also bad on me unless its a thick well cut jersey and not rusched!

snowlie · 05/08/2013 16:49

Boat shoes and loafers on men - yuck!

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 05/08/2013 19:56

Ha, I love silky shirts and pencil skirts. And stilettos, though not necessarily pointy.
