'classics' you hate

following on from the 'fashions you don't understand' thread, which 'must have' classic items of clothing are just a washout for you?

Mine is a trenchcoat - it looks shit on me.
Also those boucle chanel-type jackets - fuck I age 30 yrs putting one of those on.

OP posts:

I'm with you on the a line skirts. Unless they're they're made of a knit fabric - great for summer.

Also love wrap dresses and mock wrap dresses. As long as they're a large cup size I find they're really flattering and avoid the mono boob look.

Chanel jackets bleurgh. Salvatore ferragamo shoes with the buckle, double bleurgh.

Skinny trousers, triple bleurgh. unless the wearer has very slender thighs and long legs. Which counts me out.

CorrieDale · 04/08/2013 15:40

Oh yes, and trench coats are just plain ugly. If you look good in one I firmly believe you would look even better in another coat.

CorrieDale · 04/08/2013 15:42

And animal prints. Too too tacky. IMO.

colditz · 04/08/2013 15:43

Shift dresses.

TSSDNCOP · 04/08/2013 15:43

Linen trousers, specifically black.

Cowl necked tops ugh

colditz · 04/08/2013 15:46

Bloody hell, londone, what do you wear?

TSSDNCOP · 04/08/2013 15:48

I was wondering that too London, must you stay in a lot Grin

londone17 · 04/08/2013 15:50

A line skirts, maxi dresses, wrap dresses, t shirts, blouses.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/08/2013 15:50

I am becoming increasingly fond of animal prints in my old age. I have a fantastic leopard pencil skirt and a longline chiffon snakeprint top, and they are two of my very favourite things. Maybe I'm just an old slapper? :)

londone17 · 04/08/2013 15:51

Lol! No, linen trousers sometimes round the house.

PaulSmenis · 04/08/2013 15:52

Linen trousers can be so unflattering. DP's sister has some. She is tiny, very slim and has a lovely figure. Somehow her linen trousers manage to make even her look huge an lumpy.

londone17 · 04/08/2013 15:54

True paul, that's why I wear them at home!

PaulSmenis · 04/08/2013 16:02

I can't deny that they are comfy and cool in the summer.

MissBeehiving · 04/08/2013 16:06

Tweed is hard to get right. Always a danger of doing a Camilla.

I really detest houndstooth check and tartan. Will be forever associated with th 1980's and the Bay City Rollers.

DMs always look heedous.

MarshaBrady · 04/08/2013 16:10

No to
A line skirts
Loafers/brogues
Classic trousers
Linen
Animal print

I can do white shirt but not a classic tailored one from eg Thomas pink and I have a black dress. It is nice so it passes.

MadAboutHotChoc · 04/08/2013 16:17

Short sleeved polo shirts for women.

MarshaBrady · 04/08/2013 16:19

Pashmina over dress

Suburban · 04/08/2013 16:21

Crisp white shirts
Wide legged trousers (especially black)

I have some woven linen tees I really like, but can't stand linen trousers.

MarshaBrady · 04/08/2013 16:22

Linen t nice.

LadyMilfordHaven · 04/08/2013 16:24

I love loafers.

LadyMilfordHaven · 04/08/2013 16:25

I like polo shirts on those tiny anthea army wife women who bustle about arranging fleets in the Mess. You know.

On me I look like I've just got an NVQ in leisure centre management.

LadyMilfordHaven · 04/08/2013 16:25

Flowers. Not fleets?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/08/2013 16:26

DMs great on skinny teenagers. I don't think that 'proper' ones work v well on the over 30, at the latest.

MarshaBrady · 04/08/2013 16:30

And
Polo dresses and plimsolls make you look like you work in a members' club.

Plimsolls look great on 20 year olds with skinnies

mypavlova · 04/08/2013 16:30

yy trench coats. why can there never be a feminized version? single breasted, with some shape to it, and not so much fabric? in other words, something completely different.

also white shirts, shirts in general - too boxy.

and the jean jacket.

brogues too.

it is all too mannish in shape.

but i am one of those blue eyed winters so I like a white tee, houndstooth, black, navy, all that. camel is evil.
