Can you all tell I'm back at my desk after my hols and that I'm meant to be working really hard on this stuff that has to be finished in a couple of weeks?

hattymattie · 28/08/2013 14:30

By the way BD - fogot to say - I really love your window seat although I think if I had one I'd spend my entire time on it reading and gazing out at lovely garden.

Cremolafoam · 28/08/2013 14:33

Oh Stropps . Please come to the meet up- I'd love to meet you.
So sorry you too are having a shitty time of it right now . We can sort the world out together .
Sad

Window seat is Grin and is in reach of WI-fi Grin
It is rather lovely...

motherinferior · 28/08/2013 15:41

Argh. I am having a meltdown. (I am probably premenstrual.) I have to sing at a funeral tomorrow and have to learn a completely new line from scratch NOW and I can't do it, and have to juggle child pick up and am generally losing the plot....

motherinferior · 28/08/2013 15:54

Sorry, posted without reading the other posts, realise that my meltdown is minor but am having visions of ruining entire funeral. Keep getting notes wrong. Ahem. Also am I think pre-menstrual Blush

Stropps, it is a grim time for us freelancers and no mistake but please come to the meetup. We can share woes. Also I always look forward to seeing you Grin

Blackduck · 28/08/2013 16:10

Ah MI that seems like a lo of pressure.

Boiler man currently attacking radiators...

Cremolafoam · 28/08/2013 17:29

MI it'll be alright in the night. Just do mouthing at the words you don't know.
I too am back in my pre-menstrual
Funk. Dd in a fury in her room because I said something bad apparently. Dh not helping one bit.

But hey this will be my LAST EVER PERIOD!
Thank fuck

Cremo, we're one to a part....Grin

Blackduck · 28/08/2013 17:53

I have only just got paid and I am broke - how does that work?

beachyhead · 28/08/2013 17:57

Congratulations to Ruby and to Mrs S, who I presume is around and not been put in a box by a whiffy worker.

Stropps, it is a grim time and this time of year seems to be a time for planning, which just makes it fall into sharper focus.

I ran the gamut of girls shoe shopping. We played the 'game' with assistant, where dd2 said 'I like these' pointing to the frilly thin soled ones with stuck on flowers and I said 'I quite like these', pointing to the thick soled plain boring ones. 'Could you see what's in stock in her size?'

Well, this assistant was obviously a newbie and came out with three pairs, equally hideous (but not sufficiently decorated to fall out of uniform policy!) and said 'this is all we have!'. I caved, as I had seen the bun fight in Clarks on the way past and really didn't want to play any more Grin

Still, it's done, everyone has crispy white shirts that they can wear on day one with the squares still on them.... One week to go Smile

Stropperella · 28/08/2013 18:58

Ah yes, it would seem that I need the therapy of a crepey meet up. There is a work event that I might be able to attend on the 20th at SOAS. I will find out if a place is available.
Good luck with learning your new line, MI. I think I may also be a tad PMT-ish, hence the extra gloom. I told the dcs that we were off to the dentist for checkups this pm and dd said "Not me, I don't do dentists", whereupon I fell into a frothing and shrieking rage: "Why must you make problems where there are none?" Etc. I didn't behave well, but dd's subsequent reaction was worse, so a happy afternoon was had by all - NOT.
BTM, I

motherinferior · 28/08/2013 19:02

Oh jeeze I've just looked at the order of service, it's one of those north London eminence funerals like the last one, including singing from a really Notable Choir and readings from Famous Writers.

motherinferior · 28/08/2013 19:03

Oh no, it's recordings from the Notable Choir, that's at least consoling...

Stropperella · 28/08/2013 19:25

Gah, bastard unsmartphone.
MI, are the readings done by the actual Famous Writers?
BTM, you are maybe right in that I should get a second opinion.
I am aware that I moaned about job troubles last year and should have done something more concrete about it then. In my defence, I was blind-sided by DJ's cancer diagnosis (and subsequent effing odd behaviour - not to be detailed on a public forum). I will sort this work thing and overcome my lack of self-belief; I will, I will!

Stropperella · 28/08/2013 19:26

DJ? Ffs. I know why I love my trusty desktop...

alto1 · 28/08/2013 19:37

Mi can you find your ensemble piece on youtube and record it on your phone for quick brianwashing learning?

Congrats ruby, well done. And good luck MoR.

Sympathies Stropps, I share your sole-breadwinner anxiety.

Crem, how's dh?

My dd went off to see friend today, then rang dh to say there had been a 'mix-up' and friend was expecting her to stay the night Hmm. So he rang me at work (second day of three-month secondment, took ages to find me). Made him ring the friend's father to confirm...WIBU? Wanted reassurance that parents would be home, at least.

Seems it's all ok though. New job a bit overwhelming and everything is giving me the jitters atm.

herbaceous · 28/08/2013 19:45

Bally hell. It's all go on the Crepey front. Strops - it doesn't seem fair that you have to shoulder the financial and responsibility burden. Why can't DH take up some of the slack? Or did I miss a memo?

MI - I too have a singing crisis of confidence. My little group of four, which I had thought sounded quite good, had a go at an arrangement of 'I'd like to teach the world to sing'. Bugger me. No-one on earth would want to sing again if they heard that. I suppose we need someone to 'teach' us, point out what's going wrong, and what's going right.

Re trees, we have a vast and out of control fig tree in the garden. All very nice, and that, but we've only got a small garden and it's beginning to block the sun for most of the day. But the more I prune it, the stronger it becomes. Could a tree surgeon fix it?

motherinferior · 28/08/2013 20:02

Alto: I have been singing along to spotify ALL AFTERNOON. On repeat. I am supposed to be attempting to work, but really have to get this under control. THink it's not too bad.

The Famous Writer/s just happen to be doing readings, but it throws me rather.

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/08/2013 20:08

I have found a cleaner to clean the flat when we leave, so that is one good thing. DD1 has joined the cross country team at school and has also signed up for MUN. Shock

Strops - please try and come on the 20th, and hope you get a wonderfully huge contract asap. It would be lovely to see you again.

bigTillyMint · 28/08/2013 20:09

Alto, that sounds quite reasonable - how old are they? You never know if they are giving you the whole story...

So glad I haven't yet succumbed to deafened one of the local choirs - it sounds like a whole other level of stress. And DS has now been signed up to a different footy club 2 or 3 trains away which involves drop-offs and pick-ups (me) on a Wednesday... Sadly DH had to practise the route with him today and there was a fatality on the track (awful, obvs), so the journey took a little longer. (Well, if he will sign him up...)

Blackduck · 28/08/2013 20:35

Okay what is the list for 20th?
Stropps
Cremo
MrsS
MI
BTM
Ruby
QQ
BD
????

Where are we up to? I so want to meet everyone I have met again, sand add others to the list Grin

Stropps - big hug you have had a tough 18 month - actually between us we could write a manual (or two)...

Blackduck · 28/08/2013 20:47

I meant all crepeys there - the moves, the aged ps, the ill other halves, the teens...,

bigTillyMint · 28/08/2013 21:01

You've forgotten Herbs and Beachy!

Alto, are you coming? And anyone else?

Blackduck · 28/08/2013 21:05

Looking good!!
