Can we start a BODEN review thread for the AW stuff?

After much excitement at having a load arrive today I am sorely disappointed.

The trousers are TINY. I tried the very skinny jeans and can't even get the 10 to zip up, despite having loads of other size 10s in Boden trousers.

The Roma Ponte trousers are the same- tiny- and the rise is so short it's almost indecent. They feel like surgical stockings.

The peter pan dress is okay though a bit bulky around the middle even in an 8- so size down. Not sure if it's a keeper.

The cable jumper is itchy and shapeless.

The broderie jersey top is very big and makes me look PG due to the high empire line right across the middle of the bust.

So- everything going back and might re-order stuff using 20% off.

Has anyone got the EASY POCKET DRESS OR THE LIBBY DRESS ?

Be interested to know about the quality of Boden cashmere. I ordered a jumper in their sale a few months back and it was terrible- very thin. Didn't compare at all to the 3 other Boden cashmeres I have from 3-4 years back.
One of my best cashmere jumpers bought last season was John Lewis- funnel neck, thick and soft and was £75.

Can anyone tell me what the fit of the merino spotty button back jumper is like? I'm a 6-8 in Boden and can never decide.
Also has anyone ordered the green star print bow front blouse. Poor review on the website but I like the look of.

Scarlet - I'm a 10 and the 10 was a good enough fit although I sent it back because it wasn't as good a shape as the Tippi-alike merino jumper.

I suspect that stripey cashmere is more expensive to make than plain colours hence the price increase - but I did get 20% off.

I think the button back jumper is also pretty small size wise.

I ordered the button back jumper- not the merino though have done an exchange for that- and found it generous. I had the 8 and had to check it wasn't a 10- seemed very loose and the sleeves had a kind of 'batwing' effect.

Has anyone bought the Vintage Heeled Boots?? I really want some very very plain knee boots for the winter - I would probably buy the black, although I like the tan too. I'm intrigued by the wider fit option, I have big calves - although Boden knee boots normally fit me fine.

I was thinking of the skinny urban trouser in grey and the top with the Peter Pan colour they show on the same page , but not sure if it comes too short in the waist.

Ok so they don't do them in grey duh.

scarlet I've tried the star print blouse, it was awful so dont bother! The fabric was cheap & itchy & it looks like a maternity top.
I'd ordered loads of stuff (am still waiting for 2 things) but have only kept the Libby dress in red which is gorgeous.
The Sophie dress was ok but felt frumpy, the cashmere cropped cardy felt thinner than others I've got & the Audrey jumper was ok but not worth the £

Final 2 items were delivered yesterday & were at my neighbours! The boulevard tunic dress was incredibly short & I'm only 5ft 4 ! There's no way I could wear it as a dress. Quite nice fabric but again, expensive in my opinion.
I really thought the lace top would be great- but it was shapeless & really poor quality fabric, not impressed at all.
So out of £450 worth of stuff I've kept a dress for £55, thanks Johnny, more to spend elsewhere!

I fancy that jumper with the lace neck to wear at work with pencil skirts. Anyone got that

so disappointed to hear the bad reviews on the bow front blouse. I might try it sized down when another free shipping / return offer occurs, but that was originally a top pick. The concept has charm.

Can anyone review the skinny jeans and ankle skimmer skinny jeans for me? are they closet staples?

I appreciate these reviews because I am in the states and haven't received anything yet, nor does the boden usa site have any a/w reviews up yet.

Has anyone tried the tuilleres top? Sorry if someone's mentioned it and I've missed it. But it looks nice in the preview pics and I think it was in a mustard colour which looked fab online, not sure if I could pull it off but would like to try! Is the cable jumper rubbish? It was paired with that top in orange and looked really nice.

I'm waiting for the ankle skimmer jeans as an exchange. I find it annoying that in the petite range they are not consistent with down sizing: in dresses they just shorten whereas they need to change the waistline and hips.
In jeans they shorten the rise ( ouch) and the legs- I just need shorter legs. So am going with the ankle skimmers in the hope that they are full length on me a small person!

Ponte Trousers - very strange shape - tight on the calf but huge on the bottom/waist and not what I would call skinny (sending back)
Skinny urban trouser - ditto above comment on shape - just too baggy and pear-shaped (sending back)
Sixties mini - very thick material - definitely for winter, but looks nice (keeping purple, sending back black)
Bow-front blouse - looks really nice on, despite slightly crinkly feeling material (keeping)
Marilyn dress - looks nice on, but again very thick material and quite heavy (sending back black and trying grey instead)
Paris blouse - looks nice with jeans (keeping)
Sixties slingbacks - very foxy looking and pretty comfortable too (keeping)
Lois skirt - thick wool is too chunky for me (sending back)

My pink desert boots arrived - I know you've all been desperate for this review - and are fab! Really love them!

juneau

May I be so bold as to ask what size you got in the Ponte trousers?
I found them very tight all over compared to last year's.
I am a 28 waist ( and working on losing an inch or so!) and could barely fasten them in a 10P. They were extremely tight in the 'rise' and felt as tight as leggings.

Hasanyone got the skinny cords? Are they super skinny and tapered or more of a slim leg ?

Report
juneau · 29/07/2013 17:38

I got the 10 and usually a 10 is a pretty good fit on me. Boden trousers and skirts are very hit and miss though - sometimes they're okay and other times they have waaaay too much material around the hips/thighs area. And I'm not skinny, I have hips and thighs, so I'm a bit mystified. But there you go!

I have the printed button back jumper in grey/black spots and it's fab! It's true to size, is a nice fit and a great length and the wool is nice quality. A definite keeper!

juneau how's the fit on the paris blouse? Do you need to size up/down?

I have a fat arse, but small waist, so need tops not to be too voluminous otherwise I look massive.

Awaiting delivery of the sixties heels in leopard, the Tuileries top in cream, cashmere stripe jumper (high hopes given reviews on this thread!) and the merino crew in pink.

Will report back when it arrives Grin

I have the breadwinner skirt in navy from SS13. Great work skirt, 4-season versatility. It's understated so mixes and matches well. Ponte fabric is substantial but not bulky, doesn't cling. By comparison I tried the notre dame skirt last fall and found the fabric too bulky for my taste. Fit was true to size.

Report
OverAndAbove · 29/07/2013 19:37

I hadn't realised they were doing the breadwinner skirt again; I also have last season's and I love it. Might get the purple one now.

I got the knitted jacket in sandstone, and whist it's never going to set the fashion world alight, it looks like a good staple and I think I'll wear it loads. It's a nice fitted but soft shape, and not a boxy cardigan, which I had worried about.

I also have the Libby dress in green, but as others have said, it's not good on a long body and I do look a tad pregnant in it. I might swap it for the Hannah in dark pink; depends on the exact colour really.
