Can we start a BODEN review thread for the AW stuff?

After much excitement at having a load arrive today I am sorely disappointed.

The trousers are TINY. I tried the very skinny jeans and can't even get the 10 to zip up, despite having loads of other size 10s in Boden trousers.

The Roma Ponte trousers are the same- tiny- and the rise is so short it's almost indecent. They feel like surgical stockings.

The peter pan dress is okay though a bit bulky around the middle even in an 8- so size down. Not sure if it's a keeper.

The cable jumper is itchy and shapeless.

The broderie jersey top is very big and makes me look PG due to the high empire line right across the middle of the bust.

So- everything going back and might re-order stuff using 20% off.

Has anyone got the EASY POCKET DRESS OR THE LIBBY DRESS ?

Which is the "j crew" jumper of which you all speak? Link please!

Boden

I think they are on about this one.

I'm afraid it's not me- hate stripes and don't like pink. Sorry :(

There's also the stripy merino one but it has short sleeves- for winter???

Is there a 20% code too or just the 15% one?

:)

Scarlet76 can you please tell me more abut the Rainy Day Mac, please?

Does it feel realistically waterproof, if you know what I mean? Does it feel more trench-coat-like than cagoule-like? I like the look of the plain sage or the plain grey, although the latter might be a bit dull with my colouring.

Does it feel light enough to wear in late summer/early autumn or is it more of a winter raincoat?

Thanks very much in advance!

I was wrong. Just been to the post office and it is indeed free returns. Phew!

I'm not a Boden person myself (Hate empire waists, have huge bosom and don't suit prints or brights) but I like the kids stuff and always look for me as I often like some of the shoes - was v tempted by those heeled brogues and will watch this thread to see if anyone rates them.

I got the velvet trim hoody in navy as I've wanted one like my Dd's for ages, it's lovely and just what I wanted. Was worried it'd look bulky but it doesn't, it seems quite generously sized though so if I get another colour next year (wish I'd got the olive green one from last year or year before!) I'd size down. I'm a 32J and got a 14.

I can't see anything special about the Boden merino- sorry. Uniqlo do them for half the price.

Well its a different neckline. But to be honest, I like the cut of the tippi and therefore like the boden one.

But, I'm not trying to sell them for Boden, just reviewing my purchases.

I would second missbopeeps recommendation for Uniqlo merino. They are very good quality and even though they say hand wash, I put mine in the machine on the wool cycle and they come out fine. £20 is a bargain too.

Interesting you've found the uniqlo merino washed well. I did buy one last year and found it went very shapeless especially round the bottom.

Also meant to say the jumper sizing seems to be a little smaller than before. Or could be that I'm still dealing my holiday weight gain Wink

No problems at all with mine - maybe you had a rogue one!

The stripy cashmere with the pink top looks really lovely - would you recommend going up a size?

Report
MrsCampbellBlack · 27/07/2013 12:03

No, that one is sized well. And I did hesitate a lot before ordering as worried it looked too boden. But it is very nice in reality. And I know from the last few winters that I need some pretty colours to wear as get sick to death of constant grey and navy.

The cashmere seems reasonable quality too.

I bet I did get a rogue uniqlo one. I think also because I don't have a shop nearby I just don't look on their site much.

Agree with grey and navy. Also every winter I need pattern on white or certainly light to lift dark colours

My Uniqlo merino has bobbled like a bitch mrsCB, odd because the cashmere is v good.

I really want that blue Leopard Tippi-alike, but am on a spending ban. Boo.

Blimey that stripey cashmere is expensive, £101 with 15% off!

Report
MrsCampbellBlack · 27/07/2013 13:42

Decent cashmere is always expensive though - compared to Brora its positively reasonable Wink

Amber - you need to blog some boden stuff and get freebies a la DMBL40

flowery · 27/07/2013 14:20

Yes I realise that, but don't think charging £20 more for stripes counts as reasonable.

I have a couple of things going back - the Ottoman Shift which I bought in black and the mustardy colour. Too heavy and shapeless.

Possibly returning the Lydia dress, too. Nice shape and fit but much more purple than it looks in the pics online - not my colour.

REALLY delighted with the following, though:

The Smart Shift in ' raven falling flower' (where do they get these poncy names from Grin) and the Wool Tulip deess in black are both going to be great autumn work dresses for me.

The Smocked Shoulder tunic and Amelie dress both really good casual, weekendy buys and really nice fit on me.

Laquila The outer material of the rainy day jacket feels like a heavy cotton. Definitely feels more trench like than cagoule like. I am dubious as to how waterproof it can be! The main body is fleece lined making it warm. I would say suitable for late autumn or early winter.

Couple more preview items turned up today and sadly both going back. Had high hopes for the heeled brogues but just don't love enoug
h to justify the cost. The inner sole in one of them is not fitted well and is creased.
The retro necklace does nothing for me either so that's going back as well!

That's the honeycomb one. Not sure if other colours will suit. The Isabel jumper in the pink is lovely. Far more vibrant in rl. Like a cassis colour.
