Bum! Just join a thread and lock it down! So I'll start the next one.

OP posts:
motherinferior · 25/07/2013 13:33

Crem, I'm thinking go for it. DD is off your hands soon, and if it is going to enhance your current prospects and it's only for three months and you've got some leave stashed away I think it warrants the investment.

I think a man would do it...

Cremolafoam · 25/07/2013 13:46

Yes MI a man would indeed do it.

I am starting to doubt myself now , as you do.Confused
Would have to start on Monday....

bigTillyMint · 25/07/2013 13:51

God, that's short notice! Am thinking, as MI and CV - would it be a good move in the long-term if you are ambitious/worried about the reliability of your job/need the money?

I was a little nervous about going back to full-time last September, but I can honestly now say I am fine and I am glad I did itSmile

Cremolafoam · 25/07/2013 14:28

yes to all the above BTM. Except the ambtion. I seem to be very short on that for some reason. Hoping colleague will give me a pep talk tis afternoon. I have needed to get my act together professionally for..ahem, years Confused dd has alweays been a good excuse to , well, coast along a bit.

bigTillyMint · 25/07/2013 14:30

Cremo, my ambition left when I fell pregnant with DD and it has not returned. I am happy coasting tooBlush

hattymattie · 25/07/2013 15:58

Go for it Crem. My excuse is I'm in France so everything seems so much more complicated and I do not want to be an English teacher.

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/07/2013 17:08

I agree with MI. You will be knackered, that's for certain. But nothing a couple of early nights and a lie in at the weekend won't cure. You will know if this is the sort of job you want next/whether you should be aiming for it. If you don't go for it, you will always be thinking "what if..." And if you do do it, and decide that it really isn't for you, at least you will know for certain. My ambition and self confidence diminish daily, and I need to get a grip. I see people twice as thick as me getting more senior jobs, and it just seems to be confidence and self belief that carries them through.

Cremolafoam · 25/07/2013 19:07

Well , meeting went well.
Senior Colleague has a lot more faith in me than I do. She thinks id be perfect for it- and has interviewed me for another job recently.
A few other options have come to light in the meantime( brain turns to mush)
Another similar slightly lowlier job is about to go out due to maternity leave. Also temporary of course but it is part time, so if I got that I could keep my current position and do both which would amount to 38 hrs per week approx. much more flexible.

The ft job I've been offered will go out as a permanent 3 year post in November. If I feel stronger and able I can apply for it then.

Only proviso to all this is that my colleague says I may have room for manoeuvre with the agency to negotiate fewer hours. So I'm going to phone big boss about that tomorrow .

I am really afraid of ending up worn out. Also have to consider the op I'm waiting for ( although I can defer that I suppose)

bigTillyMint · 25/07/2013 19:29

Cremo that sounds like a result! Flowers
I agree, you don't want to feel worn out, and would it be safe/OK to defer your op?

Cremolafoam · 25/07/2013 20:22

YY routine hysterectomy can be deferred ok. Waiting list lady says they are 37 weeks behind . So many poor oncology patients who are quite correctly up before routine ops.
Been waiting so long that I'm fed up putting life on hold tbh.

motherinferior · 25/07/2013 20:25

Good point about putting life on hold, Cremo. I do very much know there is more to life than work, but some kind of giving this one a go does seem worth it.

Cremolafoam · 25/07/2013 21:57

And I will obviously need NEW CLOTHESGrin

Thanks for all your help &understanding today. You are a great sounding board laydeez.Smile

Blackduck · 26/07/2013 07:38

Cremo - sounds like good news!
MrsS - know the feeling, I see people who frankly are incompetent in their jobs but sheer confidence and talking bs seems to go a long way...
Barcelona is hot ... Very... So we had a curry last night Grin

Cremolafoam · 26/07/2013 09:37

Oh bd have a lovely time.
Love love love Barcelona!
Can be a wee bit cooler up on Tibidado hill ( theres an amusement park up there)or up by the Miro museum. You might get a breeze.Confused

bigTillyMint · 26/07/2013 09:48

Curry, BDGrin What about the lovely tapas, paella, etc?! It looks to be the temps we've had in London recently - very sweaty!
Parc Guell and inside the Gaudi houses was cooler IIRC when we went.

DD is finally 14 today, and the partying continues - she's off to Camden with her friends and then out for a meal with usShock tonight!

motherinferior · 26/07/2013 10:04

And the fizzy wine, BTM. Tapas and a bit of fizz and frankly I'm in anybody's in heaven.

My children are driving me insane. Am trying to do a bit of work. Or just get a bit of peace and quiet. Have obliging teenager coming to do stuff with them this afternoon, despite protests of "we can occupy ourselves". No you effing well can't. Not in a way that gets you OUT OF MY HAIR.

This is the downside of being freelance. You get used to the house on your own and being able to focus on work during the day...

bigTillyMint · 26/07/2013 10:11

Oh yes, that goes without saying, MIGrin

The curry was actually very good!

We have done Les Rambles, the market, the museum of Catalonia (a chance to look at men with pointy swords) and the beach. A glass of gertztraminer for 3euro. No having a siesta before trying to locate dp...

Happy birthday BTMs dd.
Sounds like fun ruby :)

motherinferior · 26/07/2013 15:59

My teenage babysitter took the kids to the park and is now teaching them card games. I cannot tell you how much I love her Grin

bigTillyMint · 26/07/2013 21:57

Thanks for all the birthday wishes for DD - she had a great day, and we are just back from a lovely family mealSmile

Glad to hear the babysitter earned her keep, MI!
And your hols sound fab, ruby and BDSmile

CointreauVersial · 27/07/2013 00:31

I have finally emerged from flat-pack hell, having spent the best part of the day on my knees in front of a pile of Ikea oak veneer. DS's room is now furnished with a bed, a chest of drawers, a desk, a chair, and a wardrobe (well, the carcass at least). Just the bookcase to go.

DD2 had a friend over this afternoon, one who hasn't been here before (and who has no older siblings). The playdate was somewhat hijacked by DD1, who decided that they were all going to make movies, so when the girl's father turned up to collect he was greeted by the sight of his sweet not-quite-ten-year-old with a full face of make-up, wearing one of DD1's bikinis and a fur coat. He recoiled slightly, and I could see him making a mental note not to return the invitation. Grin

Blackduck · 27/07/2013 07:54

CV :)

Found dp, did a marathon walk of Barca (don't ask) they cocked up mine and ds's order (no main) so I am feeling a tad fragile this morning. Ds worked the room like a pro (where does he get that from? I am as anti social as they come) Off to find headache stuff....

Happy holidays Herbs!

Cremolafoam · 27/07/2013 08:33

Cv hilarious!
What was the gist of the movie script!?GrinGrinGrin
