Inspired by our reminiscenses about block heeled court shoes on another thread and my misty recollections about working in Next, what did you used to wear? To work, especially

Lots o' Navy

Lots of gilt buttons, and BURGUNDY. Mucho burgundy. And bodies! ARGGH bodies. I had a peach one IIRC. Pale 10 denier tights

Yes to wonderbra under something see through....also a crushed black velvet catsuit.....took me bloody hours to go to the loo. Abiding memory is getting off with a Welsh whippersnapper and forgetting to put my wonderbra back on next morning. He brought it tome in uni bar in a Victoria wines bag. The romance.

I used to put a red rose transfer on the expanse of breast that was not in the wonderbra. The hair was resolutely crimped, and the lipstick was Transvision Vamp matte pink. Till about 92 when I went all Stevie Nicks and curly and suede again.

I wore Anais Anais and Ysatis. Until Obsession got me. In a fit of nostalgia last year I bought an AA sample from ebay and despite it reminding me of my first loveand soulmate itsmelled so vile and icky.

We alsoused to pop guarana pills from Holland and Barrett all Friday afternoon in readiness for a bath with Clary sage oil in it (because the bottle said not to use together with alcohol) while drinking wine ready to go out to Mcr university ravey thingy.

mosschops30 · 04/04/2012 16:04

Ha ha in the days when our breasts still looked the same bra or no bra.
Cant imagine ever forgetting a bra in my 30s id soon notice Biscuit

poorbuthappy · 04/04/2012 16:04

Short denim shorts, black opaque tights, green velvet converse (not hi tops though) with a black short sleeved body.

Slightly later in the decade, teeny tiny black dress, knee high platforms and White fake fur coat!

Christ I wish I was that skinny again!

cybbo · 04/04/2012 16:05

In my home town I was known as the girl with the stripey tights. HA!

Used to get them from the Sock Shop

My work clothes in the 90's were all from Next or M&S.

I had every colour and style of the flat brogues
Endless navy skirt suit/dress combos
Lots of cream shell tops
Lots of above the knee stretchy thick lycra skirts
Angora crossover cardis
Blazers in Black, Navy and Beige (in summer)

noddyholder · 04/04/2012 16:23

Oh god cybbo me too! It is perfection

BlackSwan · 04/04/2012 16:30

Before the internet, Beverly Hills 90210 was my only source of fashion inspiration. The original series that is.

White t-shirt with a long black spaghetti strap dress over the top. That was so in.

Bucharest · 04/04/2012 16:38

I wore white t-shirt-long black spaghetti strap combo for a friend's wedding.

FoofFighter · 04/04/2012 16:49

Lilac suede wallabies with a long spaghetti strapped floral dress and a white t shirt top underneath.

MsNorbury · 04/04/2012 16:53

i had a long navy tube skirt with stripey tights and dm a likes

MsNorbury · 04/04/2012 16:53

but htat was in the 80s
by the 90s i was starting to work

kickmewhenimdown · 04/04/2012 16:54

i was at school in the 90's where all the girls wore black kickers, white slouch socks, black tights and a short black skirt. I was way cool. And then after school we'd all change into our popper trakkie bottoms.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 04/04/2012 16:54

I was a student in the mid 90s and my uniform was a short flippy skirt, little fitted T-shirt, black opaques and low-top retro trainers (usually and preferably Puma). I never went in for the black-vest-over-white-T look though thank fuck.

For clubbing I had a polyester silky purple strappy dress, NOT burgundy thank you but more of a dark violet, and a black lace shift dress. Wore both with chunky but strappy heels.

Thing is, I spend so much time, money and energy stressing about how I look these days, but can't remember ever feeling anything but good and relaxed about my clothes in those days.

I remember when this were all fields

noddyholder · 04/04/2012 16:58

Yes a lot of this stuff is 80s.

SneakyBiscuitEater · 04/04/2012 17:05

I did my GCSEs in 1996 and outside of school uniform I had stripey tights in every colour and cobweb ones etc to wear with my age 10 black denim hotpants worn of course with DMs also in many colours.

I then went on to 6th form and leather or pvc trousers with tops that showed off my then flat tummy or silk or satin shirts with charity shop velvet jackets. At 6th form we had to wear suits and my alternative, rebellious twatty self had to scour the regulations to come up with the most pretentious yet law abiding items to wear which included...

One of my Dad's 1970s tweed suits with massive flares and collar which was very itchy. An Edwardian style riding skirt and cropped jacket. But my all time best was a morning suit from a charity shop - yep I wore pinstriped trousers with button braces, a tail coat and a top hat (they made me take the top hat off during lesson time).

I looked amazing ly pretentious

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 04/04/2012 17:15

Early 90s was my office phase - all jackets double-breasted, clunky unflattering shoes, polo necks (from Racing Green Grin) but baggy not fitted, long droopy skirts, pencil style-ish but calf-length.
Had a dark green mac with leather collar from Laura Ashley Blush.
A few shirts from Benneton.

Christ, I was on Oxford Street and Knightsbridge for a couple of years but had no clue. I do remember feeling extremely cool when I bought a linen suit from Oasis, single-breasted and with a mini skirt too short for someone whose defoliating habits were slack, at best.

Everything was baggy, nothing showed off my shape, apart from the odd short skirt. Think I had one short, fitted jacket which I bought from FC one lunchtime when a client meeting cropped up.

I'm sure there were nice clothes around but I was none the wiser Smile.

kickmewhenimdown · 04/04/2012 17:20

Aaargh, just had a flashback of a school xmas disco mid 90's where i wore a hideous silver strappy short dress which i had bought myself from internacionale. Not flattering for someone with the body of a prepubescent 8 year old. And the summer disco where i wore a white trouser suit with pvc white platforms. [grim]

SuePurblybiltFromChocolate · 04/04/2012 17:21

I was a teenager and so wore oversized band t shirts and dms, in a feeble grunge attempt.
The rest of the time we all dressed as someone from <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=blossom+tv+show&hl=en&sa=X&rls=com.microsoft:en-GB:%7Breferrer:source%3F%7D&rlz=1I7DSGJ_enGB389&biw=1366&bih=643&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=cwt5UkJlKDFhDM:&imgrefurl=www.tvguide.com/News/Blossom-Reunion-Til-1016809.aspx&docid=j0XTCNNyb-jh1M&imgurl=static.tvguide.com/MediaBin/Content/100329/News/Todays_News_Our_Take/2_tues/100331blossom1.jpg&w=210&h=305&ei=rXR8T5XjOoP68QO8mbjODQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=376&vpy=288&dur=820&hovh=244&hovw=168&tx=108&ty=191&sig=113902974186322993665&page=3&tbnh=144&tbnw=99&start=54&ndsp=25&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:54,i:204" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Blossom

CheerfulYank · 04/04/2012 17:21

Shapeless, baggy jeans. Shapeless, baggy plain white or grunge t-shirt. Shapeless, baggy flannel.

Or skater jeans with teeny tiny striped top.

Or I had this lycra green striped turtleneck. Sexy I tells ya. And limp mousy hair with a thick fringe.

CheerfulYank · 04/04/2012 17:22

Ahhh Sue! Blossom was my idol! :o

Iambaboon · 04/04/2012 17:22

palladium boots

I'm surprised they still exist
