It was acceptable in the 90's

Inspired by our reminiscenses about block heeled court shoes on another thread and my misty recollections about working in Next, what did you used to wear? To work, especially

Lots o' Navy

Lots of gilt buttons, and BURGUNDY. Mucho burgundy. And bodies! ARGGH bodies. I had a peach one IIRC. Pale 10 denier tights

It took me a long time to get out of my teenage/90s makeup of heavy, heavy eyes and no blusher or lipstick.

Discovering how healthy blusher makes me look was truly a revelation!

No one's mentioned the men yet; all that long hair and grandad shirts. I spent my teenaged years lusting after any man with hair longer than his chin - good looking or not!

Also took a long time to realise that I did not have to buy shirts a size too big, once the 90s had ended!

Yes it was all about 'sculpting' your face in the 90's . I am a pale as can be yet still succumbed to glittery terracotta bricks from YSL and a scrubby little brush

I used to stare at this make up book FOREVER

I have never left that make up era.

Never wore them, honest guv Smile but does anyone remeber when New Look were doing the Gucciesq leather jacket as worn by V Beckham?(1997) I remeber seeing people in the jacket which I think they did in pleather as well as leather with the matching pleather shorts. They were in bubblegum pink and lilac!

I can remeber going party wear shopping and trying on a baby pink angora-esq top with a black skirt type thing with braces possibly at Clockhouse.

I wore Addidas green flash which was the indie trainer of choice. I bought a velvet jacket from a charity shop and had black nylon minni mouse style shoes from New Look...

I also experimented with Rimmel Black Cherry lipstick, had a green combat mini skirt...

I have Rimmel Black Cherry lipstick. I shit you not, I wore it today (in a heavily blotted form) to go to the shop, because I wanted to look alive, but couldn't be arsed doing full makeup.

God the PE changing rooms at my school used to REEK of Dewberry. I personally preferred Charlie Red. I thought it was dead sophisticated - oh and Exclamation! (make a statement without saying a word) Grin.
I remember once my friend telling me not to buy a crushed black velvet dolly dress because it didn't hang right. Thank God for that friend.
I remember loads of boys at my school wearing Joe Bloggs and those awful spliffy jeans.
Aaaarrrrggghhh and the amount of times I "helped" my friend use a Harmony hair dye was amazing. They were really shit Grin

Black bootcut hipsters, and a vest top was standard saturday night outfit. So why the hell did I need to go shopping ever sat afternoon for a top,I must have had hundreds of the things!

Also a choker of some sort, sometimes those stretchy black plastic ones that looked a bit like a tatoo/tribal.vomit.

Sun In was wonderful stuff. Orange straw for hair Grin

For school I wore painted DMs, black and white stripy tights,a long black gypsy skirt with mirrors and tassels, a black long sleeved top and a white shirt tied at the front. This was my gesture to uniform. And my hair was bleached white and undercut. I was proper gorgeous Grin.

Out of school it was patchwork trousers or army surplus trousers, beautiful army surplus jacket and band t-shirts!

Oh, and I had a pet rat who used to come out with me, in the pocket of the jacket.

I miss those days.

Oh my god. Reading this takes me right back. In the early 90's I was entering my teens. Throughout the decade I remember

  • Pinafore dresses over t-shirts or ribbed polo necks (usually a black patterned dress over white tops)
  • A short black PVC biker jacket.
  • Short denim dungarees (in white of all colours!)
  • Shapeless pale denim shirts.
  • Acid greens and oranges for everything!
  • Ankle socks over black tights Hmm
  • Great big puffa jackets (I combined fashions by having one of these that was acid orange!)
  • Make-up from the front of magazines.
  • Canvas shoes with chunky heels in summer.
  • High pony tails with two little bits hanging down at the front.
  • Eveything smelt of Body Shop's white musk!
  • Body shop lip balms in a range of chemically-enhanced flavours [boak]
  • Nail polish from the £1 shop in every colour under the sun.

We all thought we were the height of fashion. Now the photos just make me cringe Blush

In our defense, look who our style icons were - I love her Grin
