Inspired by our reminiscenses about block heeled court shoes on another thread and my misty recollections about working in Next, what did you used to wear? To work, especially

Lots o' Navy

Lots of gilt buttons, and BURGUNDY. Mucho burgundy. And bodies! ARGGH bodies. I had a peach one IIRC. Pale 10 denier tights

I seem spend a huge amount of my life surrounded my 90s relic (ie the charity shop) we seem to get more donated that anything else. Most of it I'm Shock but some I get all...i remember that!! (And have to talked out of buying it as am now 41 not 21)

"My uni years were spent in short black dresses/skirts, thick black tights, ankle socks shock and Kickers"
Yama, are you me?

Black T-shirt, black mini-skirt, black opaque tights, black blazer (with sleeves folded up, ugh) and clumpy shoes. Hair like Five Star. Never did Docs, they had unpleasant racist skinhead associations for me.

I had a cobalt blue jacket from French Connection that was my pride and joy. The casual look at my uni was knee-length cut-off jean shorts (with a little turn-up), worn over dark tights and loafers, topped off by a chunky jumper. You had two choices of jumper-Norwegian fishing jumper or ultra-bright primary-coloured knit from some Sloaney company whose name I have mercifully forgotten.

When I started work, women were still wearing blouses with pie-crust collars (puke), very bold stripey shirts were everywhere, and we all had big gaudy gold buckles on our shoes, to match the big gaudy gold buttons on our jackets.

What, nostalgic, me?

Pinkglow · 04/04/2012 12:47

Backless tops - think this was the late 90s but I remember thats what most ppl wore in clubs when I was 17/18

Bodytops with coloured jeans (burgendy and Green Jeans were popular I remember)

Oh and roll-up long sleved tops

Chunky knit shapeless jumpers coupled with flowery long skirts

Trolls

Those terrible dummy necklaces

i am living in a time warp , so I have to avoid playing Blur, Catatonia, Pulp etc at work

BusinessTrills · 04/04/2012 12:49

The combat trouser thing was early 200s, wasn't it?

90s was stretchy black trousers (with optional fake skirt). They were comfy.

lololizzy · 04/04/2012 12:49

i seemed to know a lot of ravers, and they got plastic kids jewellery from toy shops

Pinkglow · 04/04/2012 12:49

londonlottie · 04/04/2012 12:53

Patrick Cox loafers. I can't believe I used to think I'd so arrived in a pair of those...

Astr0naut · 04/04/2012 12:57

Oh god, shapeless jumpers!

i had burgundy jeans. I keep being drawn to them in the shops now but I can't wear them if I wore them at 13!

SHort, satin A line skirts.

mosschops30 · 04/04/2012 12:57

Used to wear hoodies with baggy trousers and BK Knight trainers
Long thick chain with cnd/cross/vw sign on
Kickers
Wallabees
Coloured jeans
Ton Sur Ton/sweater shop/joe bloggs/naf naf stuff
Loved clothes in Snob
Benetton jumpers and school bags

chocoroo · 04/04/2012 12:58

Tartan trousers with a white crop top.

Kickers with heels.

Canvas shoes with heels and jelly shoes with heels.

Jeans weren't in fashion so much when I started uni so we lived in black boot cut trousers. We certainly never went out in jeans - you wouldn't have been allowed in anywhere.

Denim skirts were quite popular, as were long wrap skirts. Usually worn with a "body top".

I had a few backless tops/dresses too.

colditz · 04/04/2012 12:59

TArtan trousers with a white shirt and a cropped black chenille jumper...... plastic dummies on strings .... scrunchies....... block heels, oh how I loved thee.

ToastofWar · 04/04/2012 13:00

Any ravers remember shiny bomber jackets? Looked like the skinhead jackets from the 70s? I loved my green one and my then DJ BF used to borrow it Hmm

Oh, and puffa jackets...

FannyPriceless · 04/04/2012 13:00

Work in the 90s... lots of skirt suits. Often a short-ish suit skirt accompanied by a shoulder padded jacket. Also I often bought the matching suit trousers. Ugh. Tops with gold buttons. Block-heeled loafers and skin cooured 10 denier tights. I went through a phase of scarves tied around my neck like a choker, with the knot at the back. Need I go on...?Blush

I too went through a Neneh Cherry phase, but not at work. Also, I count this as 80s as I definitely had a Neneh Cherry poster in 1989. I had the thick black coloured in eyebrows for far too long though.

NoWuckingFurries · 04/04/2012 13:00

Did no-one else do the oversized check shirt look? Thanks PJ and Duncan!

pinkhebe · 04/04/2012 13:01

I had pirate style shirts, jeans, dms and waistcoats. Also gypsy style long skirts and tie dye floppy shirts.

Astr0naut · 04/04/2012 13:01

Nope, I had my combats in 1996, but then I was 16 and into the rock scene by then, so my saturday night clothes were always one of the following in rotation:

combats and tight crop top

short black skirt and black vest, stripy tights and combat boots

Short black velvet dress and combat boots

Tie-dyed silk negligee, fishnets and combat boots

See through crochet dress and combat boots.

My dad did actually utter the immortal words: "you are NOT going out like that!" to the crochet dress. But the crochet dress didn't listen.
